the first three seasons we meet glimmer she’s so brash and impulsive and believes totally and completely in herself, like she never takes advice and she never listens to anyone else (like the way she never listens to her mom for example), and like in the first couple seasons thats honestly such a great character trait? like it makes for such a fun and dynamic character, totally refreshing bc we get to see a girl character of color be completely impulsive and self-reliant, and nothing she does in the first few seasons is too terrible, they never get into so much trouble that its impossible to backtrack, she really IS right a lot of the time
then by the time we get into season 4 the downfalls of this character really get to be shown as soon as she gets put in a position of power. like she becomes queen and now suddenly her decisions arent just impulse decisions she does behind someone’s back, but she can make a decision and no one can tell her no, she’s now unbridled independence and impulsivity with more fight than flight instinct, and now suddenly her decisions have consequences, and thats so fascinating to see unfold and explore in a character. bc she’s not a villain under any circumstances, but she makes decisions that hurt her friends and hurt her people.
tbh i think thats where like. glimmer stans AND glimmer antis misrepresent glimmer. they dont see this as like an inherent part of her character, so they either pretend that the decisions she makes after becoming queen are always the right decision, or that they arent inherently bad choices (or that she’s somehow redeemable and catra isnt), OR they see these as an irredeemable character flaw. all missing one of the basic premises of the show - agency. adora’s primary character arc has everything to do with choice and agency (dont i get a choice? this is your destiny, you do not choose. what do you want when this is all over?), catra’s primary character arc is about redemption and accountability and choice, and these people miss that glimmer starts off as a brash character who makes all her own choices regardless of what anyone else thinks, and learns that independence for the sake of independence can hurt people. its like the opposite of adora’s - adora learns that she can choose for herself, glimmer learns that she can listen and defer to other people
So, she has wings
Lowkey love them,,,
since we’re giving some glimbow takes. don’t get me wrong i think the common theme of “hey, i actually meant that I Love You romantically” in glimbow post canon content is adorable but also. i think the deep meaning of glimmer saying I Love You, I Love You and saying it twice is to convey to bow, who knows her better than anyone, that romance is her intention. and i that they both pick up on that in the moment. and that bow’s response is romantic as well.
cause these are two best friends who have said i love you platonically like. half a million times so glimmer’s inflection and repetition is a telltale sign of something deeper and since bow speaks the same language, he immediately comprehends it and they’re on the same page
More Glimbow content because I can’t get over them.
TL;DR: Fanartist Kace / Kareth has done a lot of very questionable things and quickly deleted or hid the evidence and you should think long and hard before signal boosting them.
