Who Are The Iterators? What's The Plot?

SUMMARY OF WHAT HAS HAPPENED SO FAR Act 0:

Saint escapes from Nebula's structure and moves toward Aqua's

Seas creates a group of people through questionable means trying to capture Saint for themselves

Ghosts and Shrike get pulled into the rebel group against their will, Ghosts more than Shrike

The seniors (Owls, Epithet, Raven, Nebula) fully assemble themselves as Epithet becomes publicly "alive" again and Nebula requests help so they can manage Saint, gaining support from the other 3

Epithet has visions of a slug cat ascending him, his fear beginning to consume him

Milky way become suspicious of each other as some members join the rebels anonymously

early relationships are established, some are yet to be revealed

ACT 1:

Epithet's visions of his demise get worse, and he steps back from his role, focusing on saving himself and others, slowly closing himself off from everyone after some particularly nasty nightmares

Saint is prevented from reaching Aqua and travels south on a Leviathan

a side group of the rebels is formed, focusing more on finding out what is going on instead of capturing Saint. They mainly question their seniors, but also attempt to question Ghosts

Seas and Storms steal a pearl from Nebula, but they don't know how to decode it so they send it to Ghosts

Ghosts requests excessive resources from Comets to fuel himself and Seas, which is allowed but Ghosts is also reprimanded for not stopping Seas' activities

Seas realises that Ghosts is hoarding the majority of the resources for himself, and tries to get Comets to stop fuelling him, and fails to do so.

Shadows and Moment try to ask Future to stay out of the situation, but she does not

Lumi finds out about Epithet's situation and promises to stay with him until it's time

Saint reaches Epithet and ascends him, causing ripples throughout all of the groups.

ACT 2 (so far):

Acting seniors take over as all leave to process Epithet's ascension. They do not work as well as they could, Shrike and Shadows having very different opinions on how to be a "good senior"

Epithet finds himself as an Echo and starts trying to contact his family again

Nebula creates another slugcat capable of ascension, Tempest, and sends them out to follow Saint's trail

Ghosts' fear and paranoia spike as he breaks under the pressure of all the demands made of him, as well as his terror of Shrike being ascended, and sets out to solve the issue himself, breaking the blacklist that prevents him from using void fluid weapons but also doing large damage to his own puppet in the process

Blu's Rainword Artfight

Go Team Slugcats! Riv and I have uploaded our characters to the Rainworld artfight and here are the characters I have open to attack. I'll also probably post my artfight work here too - as well as finally picking up the story of GBN again after our sporadic posts lmao

How do ghosts and shrike remember each other or remind themselves of the other when they're apart?

Shrike: I only really spend more than a cycle away when I'm needed for a long time elsewhere, which isn't often. I suppose I don't often get the chance to miss him like he would me. I just make sure that wherever I am, I can see him, his output tells me how he's feeling. As for a reminder of him, the weapon I use when I hunt is a scythe he made for me from materials off of his own structure. I always have a piece of him with me, helping me ~

NOT CANNON TO GBN

So Riv and I (Blu) have been running a DND group for an AU of GBN where the rot is acting like a zombie apocalypse. One of the players managed to befriend Epithet and they had a conversation that reminded me of this audio. For context: Both of them are infected. Neurone colours show emotion, Epithet is currently feeling empathy (blue = sad, white = neutral) mixed with fear (purple)

the second acting senior meeting

EFUS: welcome, everyone, to the second acting senior meeting. I would hope everyone would following the guidelines set previously, however, Shrike, I have had notices of your travel outside of your group. You had better have a good reason for doing so

SHRIKE: Yes. I have. Because I have work to keep up with with Gil, a partner all the way across the continent, and an insatiable appetite that just bugs cannot satisfy. Wait are you tracking me?

EFUS: continue the work from Birds nest if you can. Communication lines exist.

AMF: Are there other sources of food in birds nest, or just bugs?

SHRIKE: Fish and a few lizards, but there's bigger stuff elsewhere, stuff that lasts longer. Anyway, no, the work must be in person, otherwise he might as well work with literally anyone else. And it's for the benefit of everyone so it's in your best interest I continue. You didn't answer my question though and I feel as though that is the raindeer in the room.

EFUS: You're making this a bigger deal than this has to be. If you want to do what's best for us -

TBS: hey Shrike I need to talk to you about something -

EFUS: this is a private meeting. Ask your own senior.

[TBS removed]

EFUS: now, continuing on, if you want to do what's best for us, please, just say with your own, I have enough to deal with

SHRIKE: No. Nuh uh. Not happening. You are going to let them speak to me.

TFPC: I do have to agree with Shrike there. That could be important.

TBS: Im back?! Ok ok - so Ghosts -

EFUS: please. Do not override my authority and misuse your power like that. I stand by my previous statement, Seas, speak to Aqua later

TBS: I ALREADY TRIED -

AMF: why isn't this system working like it used to?

EFUS: we're rusty and the others are new. We just need to get everyone on the same page. This meeting is seniors only that means that we remove those who are not so we can discuss private matters safely.

TFPC: I most certainly am not "new" to seniority.

Shrike: Times have changed Shadows, you just need to keep up. Stars just let us up North run how we have been for thousands of cycles. Oh, you know what? You should learn to adapt, and then maybe your little 'system' will work.

EFUS: this is how it works. This is the system those before us put in place and we would do well to respect that!

AMF: o-ok there's no need for this much aggression -

EFUS: I'm not letting them throw him away like this! Any part of him!

SHRIKE: Seriously. You're going to lecture me on how seniors run. May I remind you that one of them is my father? Not just that, but I am also a blacklisted iterator. And my local group has not one but two members of the council. Oh! And do I need to add that I work closely with the group who has no offical senior? And that I was involved in multiple events that involved - guess who? The senior council. I think I know how this shit works.

TFPC: Shrike, that'll do-

SHRIKE: No, Comets, it won't. I don't need to calm, Shadows needs to understand that this isn't going to work with me.

EFUS: you never saw the inside of it - and oceans lament has a senior now. One it desperately needed, and one that Seas can talk to. Just because you could observe the council, does not mean you understood it. Now, please stop wasting all of our time

SHRIKE: I clearly understand it better than you do. What about a pop quiz! Let's see... Ah, this is relevant, what do you know of Ghosts Protocol?

AMF: ghosts was put on a blacklist after Land's End to prevent him from attacking other iterators and creating void fluid weapons without all of the seniors' agreement, passed via a vote. If he tries to he will have a headache and be incapable of significant progress towards his goal

EFUS: thank you love

SHRIKE: Oh would you look at that, the Archivist can recount a past event! So, what's in place to prevent further messes - Shadows this time.

EFUS: Shrike, if you do not get control over yourself then I will assign someone else as your senior. If you want to end up like Ghosts, please, continue as you are

SHRIKE: So you don't know. You're here preaching to know all there is to do with the council and you don't know this basic fact.

TFPC: Shrike, shut up from a minute. Shadows, yes, they're needed here, that's just what happens when you fall into seniority. But they're also needed elsewhere, and unfortunately Leviathans Ghosts has to take priority. Does that mean they can't do their senior duty? No. But it does mean you have to accept that that is how the council has run up here as long a they've been with him. Any issues with Ghosts go to Shrike, or myself.

EFUS: Ghosts hasn't done anything in cycles! It would be foolish of him to do something dangerous now!

TFPC: Mhm really. Because while you've been keeping Shrike away, his heat output has tripled. And stars knows what Seas was going to say. Speaking of…

TFPC: Sorry about that Seas, what was it you were saying about Ghosts? Make it quick

TBS: HE CALLED ME A PARASITE!

SHRIKE: he WHAT-

Ech slowly approaches, placing himself between tempest and Aqua, sniffing at them

DA: do not worry, Ech is tame

It pauses, inspects Ech, before continuing its search

DA: what are you looking for friend? Are you looking for the other green creature? Are you friends? Family?

It looks up at her

T: Have you seen it?

Aqua looks surprised, bouncing back slightly

DA: you can speak?!

T: yes, now have you seen the 'green one', it's trail seems to end here.

Aqua moves over, picking Tempest up and inspecting them, she holds them in a gentle restraint, not trying to hurt, but not letting them go either

DA: oh my stars this is unprecedented! How on earth did you learn this? Is it a mark of some kind or has your species evolved? No wonder the other one was so hell bent on getting here!

Tempest squirms in her arms

T: hey-! Put me down, I am not some pet! I have an important job to do-!

she places them down

DA: oh I am - I am sorry, I am not used to visitors and suddenly all this? I - I got ahead of myself. My name is Deep Aquarium, what is yours?

T: Tempest. Now can we get back to business, we do not have time for chit chat. The green creature, where'd it go from here?

she furrows her brow

DA: I - I do not remember… my structure, my memories - Your friend must have left during a structure failure of mine. Come to think of it, one of my leviathans also went missing recently, somehow ended up in twisting weave, near the industrial zone … poor thing. Why are you looking for them?

T: It's a dangerous creature, and I'm charge of stopping it before it does more damage.

DA: more … ? You are not saying that it was the one that killed Epithet, are you?

T: Ascension is our job. I'm just here to fight fire with fire.

DA: Our? Oh no no no no I am so sorry please do not kill me - I am not ready please!

T: relax. I do not intend to follow in its footsteps that closely.

DA: I - I need to tell Shadows about this

T: sure, whatever, just… I need a ride down South. Can you do that?

DA: I can, but not along the direct path that was taken before, my missing leviathan still has not returned and I do not want to lose another

SOAFE: I owe you nothing.

SSBSG: you have no right to speak here. Silence yourself. And you, Epithet, is that resistance I hear? Looks like your old self is rearing his ugly maw. Know your place, beast.

SOAFE: I am not just another creature for you to boss around! What makes you think you have the right to torment me - to torment any of them, Time, Place Raven and I - we never deserved any of it! I spent cycles on end putting up with you and your friends committing every karmic sin possible whilst you demanded a future where I found a solution to YOUR problem - a future that did not exist! You wanted the fame and the glory so badly that you tried to destroy all of my relationships with my fellow kind! Stars, you treated everyone around you horridly I am not surprised you got stuck in this situation! I am not surprised your ascension failed!

SSBSG: there he is. The monster that tore into my face. Does it feel good, letting it all out ~? Are you going to bite me again?

SOAFE: YOU AND I BOTH KNOW THAT'S NOT ALL THAT HAPPENED THERE. YOU PROVOKED ME!

SSBSG: I did no such thing. You just followed your instincts. You did what a creature would do

SSBSG: go on. Continue to seethe in self inflicted silence as you have done for thousands of cycles. I watched you push them all away, your group, your friends, your family, all to prove what? That you were a silenced prophet? A martyr in need of saving? Face it Epithet, your fight is over, you failed and abandoned everything you used to stand for because you were too scared to continue to peruse it. Now you're right back where you started. Stuck. with. me. Or did you forget that we both failed to ascend. I didn't deserve this, but I am sure you did.
