Of all the retcons that the ALNST/ZOMST main cast has gone through, my favorite will always be the way these two went from doomed to toxic.

Like, it was always toxic to begin with. But the more elements you add to them as individuals, the more messy it becomes. They're a disaster separately and they're a disaster together. They just continue to fuel each other in the worst way possible.

Even their iconic phrase: "My God, My universe".

It was meant to show how they're each others everything; a heaven, a refuge, a home. But at the end of the day, because all they know is negligence and abuse and objectification, their "everything" is just as broken and hurtful as the world they're trying to scape from.

The only difference?

They don't have to hide their ugly side from each other: they can be as messy and crazy as they truly are and still have someone who will choose to stay with them.

Because they love each other.

Obsessively so, endlessly so, painfully so, religiously so.

They truly love each other.
