Something that I think sets witch hat atelier apart is the fact it never measures character by strength, instead always opting to use terminology relating to artistry. Magic isn't a power, it's artisanship. Instead of being preoccupied with the strength of characters, it portrays magic as an art - as a medium one can weave the most magnificent of tapestries from through their own creativity. And it's something I wish more people understood. Witch hat atelier is full of captivating artists.
IM SICK
i just i love i love love love how they incorporated the little bits of characterization here ITS SO GOOD
cocos confident straight line agotts incredibly swift line as if shes rushing, right in front of coco?? riches little circle!!!! THE WAY SHES IN HER OWN LITTLE CORNER IS ALSO EXCELLENT tetias excited swoop THE WAY OLLY WAITS FOR THE GIRLS TO START THEIR LINES BEFORE GOING IN HIMSELF IS SOOOOOO GOOD QIFREY JUST SITTING THERE, WAND IN HAND, NOT DRAWING BUT WATCHING

olruggio time!!! i truly do adore how it was olruggio's spell that made coco fall in love with magic as a whole — their dynamic is so sweet
Witch hat atelier is good
i could gush about witch hat atelier for a long time but these panels really stuck out to me as such a lovely thought about the process of learning
Witch Hat Atelier, as usual, knows how things are.
I didn't realize how starved I was for a depiction of girlhood in anime that was not for the male gaze until I started watching Witch Hat Atelier.
I find myself subconsciously bracing for a voyeuristic camera angle or inappropriate interaction, and I feel a huge sense of relief when that doesn't happen. And then I get mad that I've been conditioned to expect that in anime about young girls.
In conclusion, I love Kamome Shirahama, and I love women in media.
ok guys lemme cook
i am an old woman when it comes to fandom, i've seen plenty of queer subtext in work, i've been queerbaited, i've seen creators buckle under pressure from the fans, so i don't come at this with rose tinted glasses
but i do think there is a fair argument to be made that Olruggio genuinely is not interested in women. I'm not saying it's because him and Qifrey are endgame-- a lot of us would love that, but who knows?-- his devotion to Qifrey has been proven time and time again, but there's also some examples in the manga that show that in general, Olly just isn't interested in women.
Now granted, the broader context around these moments are pretty big and dramatic, but WHA is not afraid to throw in some comedic relief even in the most tense moments, and I'd even argue in one case, Olly's panic is the comedic relief. So
From the latest chapters, flashing back to Qifrey and Olly's childhood-- the girls are seen crushing pretty bad on Qifrey, and the boys in the scene are upset about-- except for Olly. We don't even get a little chibi doodle of him acknowledging this moment, his sole focus is on Qifrey at this point.
Next is this moment from the silver eve arc. Yes, Olly at this moment is worried that Qifrey might've gotten hurt, but I still think the way his reaction is illustrated is more than just "wait i've gotta catch up to my friend". This dude is PANICKING while getting mobbed by women who are clearly interested in him. It's another example of how it could be written differently if he were a straight man- fluster, a "not right now ladies" attitude, etc, but instead dude wants to get the hell outta there.
I just don't think this is a straight man, even if it was made explicitly clear that he and Qifrey are strictly platonic friends. This is a case of representation rather than wanting my ship to sail, y'know?
That being said -gestures at all of Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen- your honor they're in love (olly is down bad at least)
Qifrey (キーフリ) Witch Hat Atelier (2026) — 1x05 Kamome Shirahama
olruggio x qifrey isn’t a ship that hits immediately like crack cocaine. instead I think of it as an edible. you take it in the evening and you feel cozy but that's about it, and you think to yourself "this edible isn’t doing shit" but you've been underestimating its power and just like that it's later in the night you’re higher than you've ever been in your whole life and you’re shaking and seeing things and feeling like you’re being hunted down for sport
so! the forever weed brownie was laced with shrooms
not gonna lie kitten, the only thing that's getting daddy through the week right now is canadian state funded ice hockey yaoi
season 2 of atla is so good because you’ll watch an episode and it’ll be like -
A plot: aang learns to stand his ground in order to begin earth bending
B plot: zuko screams at god to strike him down with lightning
C plot: sokka is stuck in a hole
