victoria gets harrison into dnd and cassie has NO idea what it's all about, but something to do with dice and monsters ??? anyway it's got harrison excited and anything that makes her boy happy is good in her book. until one day harrison wants to start his own group with his friends but was nervous about running a game for the first time, so he asks cassie and vic to be his guinea pigs. maybe mateo gets wrangled in too. anyway, cassie's completely out of her depth, with both vic and mateo as seasoned players, but she does it just to see the smile on her son's face. just as expected, she's horrible, fumbling over all the rules and mechanics, her brain already bursting at the seams with the latest medical procedures, but of course victoria takes it upon herself to help. finally something she can teach cassie, which she humbly accepts, ignoring the taunts from harrison and mateo. and she thinks she's starting to get to grips with it, it's not that hard really once you get going. but then the roleplay aspect comes into it... and suddenly cassie finds herself fumbling and confused in a whole different way when victoria's character starts.... flirting ??? with her own. it's all pretty tame, compliments and the like â I mean her son is sitting right there â but she definitely thinks it's flirting. when she questions it, victoria just smiles back at her all innocent like 'it's a game cassie, we're roleplaying :) and cassie just nods back like that's a reasonable answer, ignoring the fluttering feeling in her stomach she thinks has nothing to do with make believe...
thinking about cassie mckay deliberately making you flustered. like she can totally tell the affect she has on you but sheâll keep on saying and doing things to get a reaction from you
imagine you finishing up a procedure with little to no help from cassie (the help you did get, her hands were on yours, guiding you) and you move away from the patient and cassieâs hand finds the small of your back as she leans in to whisper to you âgood job back there sweetheartâ
i would fall to my knees iâm not gonna lie
okay so i fear i may need to make this into a full fic at some point but please enjoy this little drabble in the meantimeâŚ
cassie mckay who thought you were cute the moment she first laid eyes on you. she kept her distance at first, keeping all of your interactions professional. during your second week, the two of you worked a trauma together. robby gave you instructions, but once he got you started he ended up asking mckay to walk you through the procedure. itâs a learning hospital after all, and cassieâs in her third year of residency â teaching you is teaching her. after you stabilized the patient, cassie gave you a literal pat on the back and praised you. she instantly noticed your flushed face â not from the adrenaline of the procedure but because of her words and touch â the way your body tensed ever so slightly when her hand made contact with you, your adorably shy smile, and how you were practically speechless.
ât-th-thanks,â you stammered out to cassie that day. she just smirked smugly, the image permanently burned into your mind.
since then, cassieâs gone out of her way to get that reaction out of you. youâre oblivious to her antics though. to you cassie is nothing more than an annoying yet cute distraction. however, youâd be lying if you said that you didnât crave her praise. you have been crushing on cassie since your first day at ptmc. sheâs much older than you though, a mom with an ex husband, and youâre not even sure if sheâs into women. you have your theories that she is, but a part of you thinks itâs just wishful thinking. you could be picking up hints that are just what you want to see.
todayâs a monday. over the weekend you didnât do much. instead you took the time to rest before jumping into another week of work. youâre at the nurse station, chatting away with trinity and dana about what you were up to the past few days. dana spent time with her new grandbaby, the new evans member only a week old. trinity tells you about saturday night where she dragged whitaker to a gay bar and the pair got totally wasted. then cassie approaches, your eyes finding her immediately. thereâs always a messiness about her look, never not looking a little disheveled, although, you find it insanely hot.
âah!â dana says as she spots cassie. âhow was your date?â
a jealous knot grows in your stomach and your body tenses.
âeh,â cassie answers with a shrug.
ânot a gentleman, huh?â dana replies, placing a hand on her hip.
âwoman,â cassie says then. your eyes grow wide and you look to trinity in surprise. she has a faint, amused smirk on her face, clearly happy to hear that cassieâs into women.
âi didnât realize you switched teams,â dana tells cassie as she raises a brow.
âiâve always been on the sapphic side,â cassie replies, the corner of her lips twitching up into a small smirk. she looks at you then, her blue eyes locking with yours. immediately, you look away, your cheeks flushing slightly. you reach for the nearest clipboard, pretending to be busy. âanyways,â cassie says as she looks back at dana, âit was just a stupid date with a random woman i met on a dating app. thereâs a reason why i donât use those things.â
âdesperate times, huh?â
cassie laughs at danaâs words and nods. âitâs been a long time since iâve gotten laid.â
your eyes burn into the chart in front of you, but you couldnât tell someone a single thing on it if someone asked because your mind is reeling with cassieâs admission. she looks to you again and notices how youâre burying yourself in that chart, your grip on the clipboard so tight that your knuckles are turning white.
before anyone else has a chance to say anything, robby comes running down the hall. âmckay, l/n, santos,â he calls out as he sees you guys gathered together at the nursesâ station. âwe got a trauma,â robby tells you three as he points to the gurney thatâs being wheeled beside him by two medics.
you, cassie, and trinity drop what youâre doing to help. robby gives you the details as the patient is wheeled into trauma one. marcos sanchez, a 38 year old man fell off of a ladder at work. once youâre all caught up and gloved up, robby begins to assign everyone a task as perlah hooks the patient up to monitors.
âsantos, check for internal bleeding,â robby instructs. he then looks over to you. âl/n, do you think youâre up for reducing this tib-fib?â
âuhâŚâ you eyes naturally trail to cassieâs, and she gives you a sure nod. âyes.â
âgood,â robby replies as he claps his hands together. âmckay, help her.â
âyou got it,â cassie says to robby, already walking over to you.
âiâm going to keep constant tension while you manipulate the fracture, yeah?â you nod and get into place. cassie grips the patientâs heel, maintaining firm traction. âokay,â she says, looking at you trustingly. âfeel where the deformity is,â cassie instructs, her voice soft yet commanding. âyouâre trying to bring the distal segment back into alignment with the proximal bone.â
âmkay,â you murmur in acknowledgment, your focus on the patient. cassie watches closely as you begin to work. you go slow and steady, careful not to make any mistakes.
âkeep the limb lengthened before you correct the angulation.â you nod and tighten your grip, applying consistent tension as instructed by cassie. beneath your gloved hands the leg resists at first, the muscles taut despite the patientâs unconsciousness. âgood,â cassie purrs as she watches you. âhold that.â as you keep going cassie tells you, âa little more tractionâŚâ her tongue darts out, wetting her lips as she concentrates, âperfect. keep it straight and donât let it rotate.â you maintain the pull, but you compensate for the resistance which results in the patientâs foot drifting almost imperceptibly outward. âfreeze there,â cassie tells you suddenly.
âsorry,â you murmur.
âyouâre okay,â cassie reassures you as she steps in beside you, her eyes moving from your hands to the alignment of the leg. âyouâve started to rotate him,â cassie points out. but before you can adjust, she slides her hands gently over yours, repositioning your grip by a few centimeters. âfeel the difference?â cassie asks, her breath hot against your ear. âpull from here,â she tells you, a little bit of a rasp in her voice. god, cassie instructing you like this is definitely not good for your concentration. she then guides your hands back into line with the patientâs thigh, applying just enough pressure for you to feel the correct angle. âthere,â cassie says. âthatâs the vector you want. hold that.â
âg-got it.â with a barely noticeable smirk, cassie takes a step back. with cassie now giving you room, robby steps closer to you and leans over to study the leg. he watches as the deformity gradually softens while you manipulates the fracture into a better position. âis this good?â you ask.
âyup, it looks much better,â cassie tells you as she peers over, invading your space to check.
âletâs get a splint,â robby says. âgood job, dr. l/n and dr. mckay.â
âon it,â perlah announces. she then comes with the splint and takes over. you take a step back, finally able to breathe.
ânice,â you hear cassie say, her frame lingering just barely behind you. cassieâs hand finds the small of your back as she leans in to whisper, âgood job back there, sweetheart.â her warm breath tickles your ear and sends chills down your spine.
ât-thanks,â you reply awkwardly. âyou were a good teacher.â
cassie hums in thought, pulling her face back slightly, though leaving her hand on your lower back. âiâm happy to teach you anytime, honey.â
you swear your knees are on the verge of giving out. you inhale sharply, trying to get a damn grip. then you look to cassie, your flusteredness coming back the second cassieâs blue eyes land on yours, her prideful grin and proximity only intensifying the stupid butterflies in your stomach.
âdo you need to sit down?â cassie asks, her eyes narrowing while she places a hand on your upper arm to steady you. âyouâre looking like youâre about to pass out.â
âi-i iâm fine,â you say, your voice unintentionally coming out a bit squeaky. âiââ before you finish, a nervous hiccup escapes. you close your eyes momentarily in embarrassment, the shade of pink painting your cheeks deepening.
cassie chuckles and leans in closer, her eyes darkening just enough for you to notice. âcâmon, sweetheart,â she tells you. âi think someone needs a water break.â
in silence you deglove, the patient now stable. once you step out of the trauma room, you place your hand under the hand sanitizer dispenser. you rub the gel on the palms of your hands, cassie doing the same. then, with a hand hovering over the small of your back, cassie guides you to the break room. when you pass the nursesâ station, she plucks your water bottle from the counter, already knowing which is yours. as you enter the break room, cassie ushers you to the table. the hand on your back withdraws so cassie can pull out a seat for you.
âsit,â she tells you. you do, and then she hands you your water bottle. the room is empty, just you and cassie.
you take a sip of the ice cold water, needing to hydrate. your eyes then flicker up to cassie. âthanks,â you breathe out, your shaky voice barely above a whisper.
âno problem,â cassie replies as she presses her lips together in a smile, her dimples poking through. âiâm gonna go,â she says, pointing behind her to the door with her thumb.
âoh, yeah, iâll be there in a minute.â
âno worries,â cassie says, taking a step back. her eyes linger on you for a few more seconds before she turns around completely and walks away. her hand slides onto the door handle, but she hesitates. cassie looks over her shoulder at you, a coy smile growing on her face. âby the way,â she starts, your eyes shooting up to look at her from across the room, âitâs cute how pink and flustered you get.â your eyes widen, your head nearly dropping out of your ass. you feel yourself shrinking into your seat, your shoulders slugging forward, completely mortified right now. âmaybe next time iâll, uh, have to turn down robby and tell him to help you out,â cassie tells you, her tone somewhat teasing. âalthough, it is really cute,â cassie says, feigning contemplation. âmy date last night never got even half as tongue tied as you do when i talk to you.â she admires your speechless state for a couple moments, unconsciously licking her lips. she then gives you a nod and says cheerfully, âsee ya!â with a wink before turning around and leaving you alone in the break room.
did cassie mckay just flirt with you? and has she been deliberately making you turn into an embarrassing, nervous pile of mush this whole time? all because she thinks youâre cute?
my top four pitt ships being hucklerobby, nolevans, mcvadi, and barantos, should tell you two things about me. 1. I was neglected by my parents 2. I'm a pervert
thinking about victoria getting her nails done for her graduation and all cassie can think of is how theyâd feel digging into her skin or raking her back or something
iâve been putting off finishing the second season of the pitt bc honestly i just cannot bear to watch a man put the moves on cassie mckay before i even get a chance
summary: as a doctor, people are always referring to cassie by her last name. when she gets tired of hearing it, you propose a solution.

Holiday shifts were always tough, and you knew the Fourth of July wouldnât be any different. Though, what you hadnât expected was ICE agents dragging away a patient and a nurse; a cyberattack forcing the department to go completely analog; a patient choking out the new nurse; a new attending; and your current attending taking out his mid-life crisis on any person who stepped even an inch out of line.
Flipping through the clipboard Dana had passed off to you, her own version of the handwritten board, you swore could feel your brain turning to mush. You wanted nothing more than to go home and get into bed, dragging your girlfriend along with you.
As if her ears had been ringing, Cassie entered the central station with a sigh.
âHey.â She leaned back against the desk and looked down at you.
âWhatâs up?â You asked, your eyes still trained on your chart as you scribbled something down really quick.
âI just need a second,â Cassie sighed. She unfolded her arms and dropped her hands to the edge of the desk. âI feel like Iâm being pulled in a million directions.â
Looking up, you offered her a sympathetic smile. âOnly three more hours to go.â
You set the clipboard down and subtly placed your hand atop hers, brushing her knuckles with your thumb. Your relationship was by no means a secretâyou and Cassie had been dating for nearly three yearsâbut that didnât mean you went around flaunting it with public displays of affection.
The feeling of your skin against hers caused Cassie to exhale, her muscles visibly relaxing. In the ED, uninterrupted moments were few and far between. Each second she got with you were ones she would revel in. However, the peace didnât last very long, as her name was being called.
âDr. McKayââ Princess approached the station as she tucked a pen into her chest pocketâ âlittle boy with wrist fracture is gowned and ready.â
Cassie nodded, acknowledging the nurse, but before she could even push herself off the desk, another person was trying to grab her attention.
âMcKay, I need your hands on an incoming MVC!â Robby shouted from across the department. âTen minutes out.â
âHeard,â Cassie yelled back, and as if the world was deciding to test her even further, her name rang out again.
âMcKay, scans are back on Central 12,â Dana announced, eyeing you both over the bridge of her glasses.
âThanks, Dana,â Cassie sighed, before flipping through the chart Princess had handed her.
âIâm starting to hate my name,â she muttered under her breath, loud enough for you to still catch it.
âYou could always change it.â You shrugged as you return to your chart.
âYeah?â Cassie scoffed with a glint of amusement in her eye. âTo what?â
Your own last name slipped from your lips so casually that it took Cassie a minute to comprehend what you were saying, her exhaustion doing her little favors.
âDid you justââ she frowned, narrowing her eyes at you. âDid you just propose to me?â
Clicking your pen, you grabbed your clipboard and stood up, leveling Cassieâs confusion with an innocent smile, as if you hadnât just suggested in the middle of the ED that your girlfriend take your last name.
âJust think about it.â You winked, squeezing her bicep before sliding past her.
Cassie watched as you walked away from her and approached Dana, chatting with the head nurse like nothing happened.
âMcKay!â Robbyâs booming voice snapped her out of her stupor.
âIâm here,â she said, rounding the nursesâ station.
As she rushed over to the incoming gurney, Cassieâs eye caught yours, and you gave her a soft smile and a nod, giving her the boost of energy and confidence she needed for this trauma.
The small action made Cassie grin and her chest tight. She knew then that she wouldnât mind taking your last name. But if the black velvet box sitting at the bottom of her purse had anything to do with it, you would be the one taking hers.
