I still believe this to this day, but Adamâs death was one of the best things to happen to RWBY because it got rid of one of itâs weakest written villains that was to ever exist.
Even better is now that it leaves more rooms for characters like Cinder, a villain that actually matters in the long run because of her abilities and the maiden powers, to get more growth.
Will humanity ever be free of the influence of Edna Mode? Can any of us so much as consider the character design for a hero or villain without her manifesting in the room, fully aware of our sins?
You know what, another layer of difficulty is when youâre thinking about villains, and the wise words of Megamind come into your head. You donât just want your child to be just a regular villain. But how do you make your villain a Supervillain with no cape? Where is the drama? But Edna says no capes, you must deny them the flair. It is impossible to please them both, and itâs tearing this family apart.
The only part of Rubyâs lying that made me feel nervous was the bit where she said that Oz just dissapeared after the train crash but the next bit makes that bit better

Or when they try and say that he shouldâve beaten Blake and Yang? Thatâs stanning

Since Yang is the only character who have glasses in her ouftit, headcanon time: she actually need them for reading and for see from afar. (This is also why she choose hand To hand combat, it's easier for her to not have her glasses when she fight. And this is why she doesn't have longue range weapon) back at Beacon she used to wear her glasses when she studied (and when she had them, every girls in the school had gay thougts)
Okay, with this new information out about Cinder's semblance, I made a theory last night that Salem possibly gave Cinder her semblance and abilities, making Cinder quite frankly tied to her. It would explain why Cinder is so desperate to return to Salem and redeem herself by getting the relic by any means possible.
Now here's where I should make a correction. I believe it was answered in an interview that everyone has a semblance but some just never find it like Roman, who was a formidable fighter despite the circumstances.
So let me propose that Salem has interfered with her magic and unlocked Cinder's semblance for her. Or perhaps aided it with her magic from a weakened state where she could merely control dust particles or mildly heat things with a caress.
Either way, there is plenty of evidence that Salem has given Cinder her gifts and turned her into an ultra maiden weapon.

That does it for me. The core of Cinder's semblance was unlocked or amplified by Salem.
I remember so many people being confused by Vol 6, asking why Cinder doesn't just leave Salem and go off on her own. Wouldn't that just be a more interesting story?
Well, the fact is she can't. Salem covers her bases well. If she granted Cinder power, she can take it away. She can take everything away from Cinder just as well as she gave it.
Recall that scene in Vol 3 ep 7 after Cinder got half of her Maiden powers. She thanks whoever she is talking to in a blacked out scene. It's clear the person is Salem. She taunts Ozpin on behalf of Salem.
"I thought you were the girl who wanted power. Did you lie to me?!"
And those words now take on a very different meaning to me. Only Salem can motivate Cinder. Because she gave her everything. And Cinder knows it deep down that without Salem, she is nothing.
Vol 7 is said to have more information on the evolution of semblances, so I can't wait for what's in store for us.
Oooh I like the bit of the theory about her being able to take it back and the idea that the âdid you lie to meâ scene has the underlying threat of âI can take away your powerâ, especially because if you then parallel it back to Jacques and Weiss itâs a very similar thing, Weiss steps out of line and Jacques takes away her title of heiress, her power.
How Infinity Trainâs message works and Sawâs didnât.
Well, Infinity Trainâs message is simple. Even after the change, or trial and error good outcomes are still possible.
Sawâs message is through trial and tests, you can be redeemed/changed.
The two have very similar messages and both use similar methods to present their messages by testing the protagonist.
The way the train goes about giving this message to the passengers is similar to that of the Saw movie. They are put in a scenario in which they have thought out puzzle made for each passenger boarding the train. Much like how the Jigsaw killer had thought out the ways of testing his/her(depends on the movie) victims based on their actions and situations.
As to why Sawâs message didnât relay well is simple. The victims died at the hand of their killer and never really get the opportunity to learn. Itâs one test where nobody who fails can learn and the ones who pass never actually learn. You could say that itâs their fault for that being the case since they did not pass the test but that just isnât true. There are plenty of cases in which victims succeed and they can not be redeemed, and there are cases in which victims felt cheated and worse off than they did before. Every character that was âredeemedâ was worst off than they were, to begin with.
With Infinity Train, the message is reoccurring. For starters, you can be redeemed even if you fail. You can fail multiple times and still be redeemed. This we see with both Tulip and Amelia. Both fail at some point but are still given the opportunity at redemption. Even after failure.
You could say that the reason Infinity Train works with showing itâs message better because there isnât the threat of death, but thatâs where youâre wrong. Death is still a threat. Death became a threat from the very beginning. The monsters that are in the train world, the number(since Tulip was unsure of the outcome since it was phrased sheâll be gone when it hits zero), and the dangers of whatâs going on in certain carts. Not only that but there are two other threats that are worst than death on the train as well. Time and solitude.
On the train, time is infinite. It doesnât matter how long the passenger is on the train. Time doesnât work how it does in the normal world. Tulip had been there for what could have been months and she came home to what was basically the next day. Because of that, someone like Amelia could spend what feels like an eternity on that train trying to redeem herself before she can go back to living the next day of her normal life.
Because of the time not working normally, if someone like Tulip were to be alone on the train for a long amount of time not running into other passengers or characters like speaking animals or creations of the train then the horror of being alone over that span of time will possibly make them go crazy. What happens to passengers who are alone for too long? Amelia is what happens. She had been alone, secluded, and gone power crazy out of desperation. She pushed away OneOne who was one a few who tried to help her and really didnât interact with anyone else unless it was for her own benefit. Solitude basically turned Amelia into a monster like the ones she was creating.
Because of these two threats with the inclusion of death, Infinity Train was capable of better portraying its message than any of the Saw movies ever could.
