Sometimes I remember that Cinder Fall is a traumatized woman. And no, I don't just mean traumatized by her childhood where she was neglected, enslaved, abused and tortured, although that stuff ought to be considered when talking about her anyway.
I'm referring to the trauma she endured at the Fall of Beacon - mostly, the psychological trauma.
The physical trauma is easy: she lost an eye and an arm, as well as her ability to speak for months (or the entirety of Volume 4). But what intrigues me more is how damaged her mindset became following what happened that night atop Beacon Tower.
Cinder did everything right. She became the Fall Maiden. She destroyed Beacon Tower. She even killed Ozpin, and while that may have been something she wasn't expected to do, Salem sure doesn't mind that much. And of course, Cinder ushered in chaos not just for Vale but for all of Remnant with her orchestrated attack. She was at the height of her power so to speak the night that Beacon and Vale were overrun by the Grimm and the Atlas military rendered impotent thanks to the virus planted in the computers. Even with the slight bumps along the way - what with the kids interfering with a Dust heist or disrupting Roman's efforts or causing the Grimm invasion of Vale to happen sooner than planned - Cinder still managed to pull off a spectacular feat, keeping multiple actors in line for the big finale. And it worked. She won.
Until the moment she got burned by Ruby in a freak accident.
Aside from the grudge against Ruby, what do you think that did to Cinder's mentality?
I know that the Beacon arc is one that sets up the cast with various cliches and expectations only to subvert or deconstruct them, and Cinder is no different. However, I will argue that Cinder was at her best at Beacon until canon proves me wrong - because at Beacon, Cinder was indeed triumphant, more so than she was in Atlas. Why? Because Cinder was PATIENT. Cinder had a plan and she stuck to it. Whatever Salem told her to do, she clearly did it right and did it well. Sure, Cinder craved the power of the Maiden, but she didn't let that get in the way of the grand plan, a stark contrast to her later actions at Haven and Atlas. Which is why I cannot stress enough that Cinder is traumatized by that night at Beacon Tower - she came away from it convinced that being patient is stupid and if she wants something, Maiden powers or otherwise, she needs to press hard and press fast. She refuses to starve, so she hates waiting now.
I think that some fans will claim that post v3 Cinder is "the true Cinder," and to some degree, that is true. We are seeing other sides to her, but I maintain that her more aggressive tendencies stem from this belief that playing the waiting game like she did at Beacon will not work. Why repeat that mistake considering what she lost personally? It's a shame because again, Cinder was at her best at Beacon: that patience and ability to coordinate others to do her bidding made her triumphant to a degree she hasn't repeated since. Will she learn to rely on others again? Will she try to be more patient and restrained?
Time will tell.

THIS is a mega folder containing literally everything rwby-related that is available right now on roosterteeth (+v9). rwby, fairytales, world of remnant, the grimm campaign, ice queendom (sub and dub), vtubing, all the behind-the-scenes stuff. everything.
plus soundtracks for every volume + IQ, and drm-free epubs.
i will add any additional rwby content released during the wind down period as it becomes available. V1-8 have an english subtitle track embedded in the files, V9 does not because it came from CR. IQ dub has english subtitles. and for the sake of completeness i pulled all the non-english subs available on CR for V1-9 as well, those are in there as loose .ass files for the time being.
whenever possible, buy physical media. learn how to strip drm out of digital content that you own and make it a habit to do so.
archive responsibly 👍
For those of you that may need it, Miles and Kerry on writing Jaune so he's not a self-insert
Miles doesn't even like to write Jaune. For the very reason of the self-insert accusations.
em's turn :) an attempt was made to draw her hair canon accurately... emphasis on attempt.
Just got some asks and decided to look through my inbox and wow I have a lot of asks. I don't even remember what half of that was about
I think I have at least a few that were sent to me during volume 7, yk...nearly 5 years ago 😭

the team cvfy book continues to be comedy gold
okay but “The Final Word” really did completely change my perspective re: the whole “Salem’s ultimate plan is to destroy the world and Cinder is on board with it”
specifically, the line:
“In pursuit of a new world, no cost is too great.”
Salem is speaking solely for Cinder’s benefit here. Yes, Ironwood is there, but he’s not worth considering on any level; he’s essentially already dead. [insert Fist of the North Star joke here]
So there are two possibilities here:
1) Salem does in fact want to destroy the world, and is lying because Cinder thinks her plan is to create a new one
2) Salem's plan is not actually to destroy everything and everyone, and Cinder has been filled in on the real details
And I'm thinking Option 2 is way more likely: Cinder might be self-destructive and bitter enough to be willing to die along with the rest of the world, so long as she gets to be the one to hit the doomsday button, but that couldn't be the only thing she wants. If she could be, as Mercury puts it, "top dog in Salem's new world," she would absolutely be down for that as well: probably more so! She wants to be strong, to be feared, to be powerful, and I don't think she much cares what form those take.
So my thought process has done a complete 180: Team Good Guy might have a totally wrong idea of what Salem actually wants, and the only people who actually know what's up are Salem herself and Cinder, who have yet to spill their beans.
SO WHAT THE FUCK IS UP
Deadbeat Mom Raven Branwen my beloved. I need V10 so I can learn more about what a disaster she is <3
Funny thing about about Cinder Branwen AUs and Cinder becomes the Third Rose-Xiao Long child AUs.....
.....Is that in the original Cinderella story (that is to say, where it is believed the concept actually originated from), the "Cinderella"'s name was Ye Xian of Wu, (or Ye Xian Wu, in modern format). And the characters that composed the name were the following Ye (葉): Meaning - leaf, petal, etc. Xian (限): Meaning - limit, boundary, encirclement, etc. Wu (烏): Meaning - black, crow, raven. So basically Ye Xian Wu could be loosely translated as Crow encircled by Roses. So yeah, Cinder Branwen AU has a mythological basis to it, if nothing else. Ain't that a hoot, @hadesisqueer?
