This is based off of @sandsofdteam’s post because I also feel passionately about this
I do not care how passionate you are about a character on the smp, I really don’t, you can be as attached as you want or as unattached as you want, it doesn’t matter. I, however, take issue with when you use that passion to either
1. Publicly hate on the actual content creator and not their character
2. Completely try and throw over the work a content creator has put into their lore because you simply don’t like it
An example I’m gonna use is the one I know best: the Michael discourse from George and Sapnap. For context George and Sapnap messed with Michael (the piglin) which then made people genuinely mad at them and accuse them of being bad friends. People were calling for them to be kicked from the smp, sending them death threats. At that point I don’t care how important Michael is to you, I don’t judge you if he’s one of the best things to ever happen to you because no matter how much he means to you, it does not give you a right to send hate to the actual content creator. The moment you do that then in my eyes, you’re not being a nice person, and I don’t care how important Michael’s character is to you because you’re the one who let it go so far that you alienated real people over something fake
This can be said for a lot of lore however; people completely screwing over all of the work put into the eggpire because it doesn’t fit into ‘their idea’ of the lore; or people claiming Karl’s lore isn’t ‘real lore’ because it isn’t recognised by who they consider to be the ‘main characters’
I don’t follow lore that much, but I draw a line at people who don’t draw a line between the effects on the characters vs the effects on the content creators. Someone’s lore isn’t ‘bad’ because you disagree with how it fits in the story, condemn the character not the work that was put into it by the cc
