In the corner of the room Kraelos stood with his head slightly tilted, his ivory-clad figure a sharp contrast to the purple gloom. His attention had changed to a point of pure satisfaction.

Kraelos tilted his head, a deep glow in his purple eyes. “There it is.” He stepped forward, his eyes locked on the space between Kylo and the empty air. "You've stopped forcing it, haven't you?”

The Syndicates looked at Kraelos, then at Kylo, then at the Chief Director. The fear in the room had changed. It was no longer the fear of a weapon.

Kylo looked at Kraelos, and for the first time, he didn't see an ally or a mentor. He saw a man who had known this would happen. "It's answering," Kylo said, his voice echoing with a slight, metallic resonance that didn't belong to his vocal cords.

Hux’s hand twitched toward Kylo’s arm, but he held himself back. As Chief Director he held the line. However, as he looked at the terrified faces of the most dangerous men in the galaxy, he realized that the Directive hadn't just proven their power. They had proven they were no longer in control of it.
