Giko from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury
Blanca from Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island
Don Valentino from Cuticle Detective Inaba
A goat mafioso, ostensibly the villain, he is opposed on various sides of the law by werewolves. More importantly though, he’s voiced by Shigeru Chiba in full scenery eating mode. Or in Don’s case, money eating.
Azazel from As Miss Beelzebub Likes
Let’s continue our run of pretty boy Azazel’s with this one from As Miss Beelzebub Likes who is a big fan of cute things.
Azazel from Rage of Bahamut Genesis and Rage of Bahamut Virgin Soul
Here Azazel is a fallen angel, at first an antagonist, but firmly a protagonist by the sequel series.
Azazel from You’re Being Summoned, Azazel-san
Now let’s move onto all the anime Azazels that there are. Normally portrayed as demon in anime, the name is related to the scapegoat rite. If you want to learn more, read a book. Or the wikipedia article like I did.
Anyway, this example of Azazel embraces that scapegoat aspect as he’s the most put-upon of the various demons summoned to our world by John Constantine-alike, Akutabe and his assistant Rinko Sakuma.
Zenny’s Goats from One Piece
These goats appeared in a filler arc, and as such I have no idea of their context.
Miyagi from One Piece
Late in the day all those animal people that populate the world of One Piece were explained when we arrived at Zou, the giant elephant home of the Mink people.
One of the Mink people is Miyagi, a goat-man doctor.
Sengoku’s Goat from One Piece
Subject of a lot of fan-speculation, as far as we know, Sengoku’s Goat is just an ordinary goat
Goatmon/Oryxmon from Digimon Frontier
Once I’ve checked Pokemon, naturally I check to see if Digimon had an example too. Even if it’s not an animal, it’s worth checking Digimon.
Gogoat from Pokemon
There’s a prior form, Skiddo, but if I was making a convention event, I’d stick to this pocket monster as it has goat in its name.
Creeping Dark Goat from Cardfight!! Vanguard
When making these lists, CCG and Videogame adaptations are a good starting point.
Introduction
In the past I’ve run animal themed events at UK anime conventions. Namely “Illustrated History of Anime Penguins”, “Illustrated History of Anime Pigs”, “The Feline Fifty: Anime’s Top Cats” and “Anime Dog Poker”.
A couple of years back I joked about running an event about anime goats, labelling it G.O.A.T Anime. My feeling was there wasn’t quite enough Goats to do it, and I’d become enamoured with my “Anime Space Disco” event idea.
I still don’t know if it’s viable, but let’s start this tumblr and start documenting some goats in case I come back to it.
