The end
I haven’t posted on GBW for quite some time now - life got busy! But it was always here and I check on it from time to time, perhaps with the ambition of coming back to it at some point, perhaps to add some of my own work.
So Tumblr is taking down anything adult themed. I’m not sure if GBW will count as it isn’t always explicit. We’ll see.
I am amazed though that the social media platforms that we all frequent, tools that are supposed to connect us, are the ones who are the biggest censors. In my case, the UK, these platforms are routinely more prudish and more censoring that our own government. The government allows freedom of speech, of expression and allows pornography (though some strange laws were passed on that particular matter, outlawing the depiction of certain acts).
So why is this content routinely stopped, blocked, shadow-banned, etc by the platforms themselves?
Never forget, that although we as people can form a culture around absolutely anything, any kind of shared experience, you cannot form a lasting culture on these platforms. They are always temporary. They have agendas of their own and it is not to serve you or I. It is their own profit and in almost every case they profit at the users’ expense.
So if some new platform comes along and everyone jumps to it. Remember. That too will vanish one day and it will be out of your hands. The only lasting community we can create is direct, person to person. With each other. Not reliant on a tech giant.
Bye for now x
