Real life still sucks, but Frigga’s been nudging me. It’s almost like she wants to tell me something.
So. Maybe some fluff to begin with? Something simple to see if she’s really back...)

(After a great deal of careful thought, I've decided to give up rp'ing Frigga. She hasn't spoken to me in a long while, and all attempts at reviving her have failed miserably. There are many other Frigga rpers who play her as well as I did, and a great deal more consistently.
I will leave the blog up, as I might come back to meta some, or if something changes. I love Frigga dearly.
I loved the time I had, and I wish I could have made it last longer. I love my partners, and want you to know that I do this so you can finally find someone who can fill that role in your rp life. I'm very sorry I couldn't continue, and that I dragged out this decision for so long.
Be well, darlings.)

Thor Deleted Scene: Frigga and Odin
She wouldn’t want you to fight, but she made damn well sure you knew how.
Um guys, Thor’s hitting the soldier with Mjolnir’s handle. And for your information, the real Frigga never fights with daggers and she didn’t teach martial skills. She fights with magic.
That freaking scene in the movie was terrible. She’s one of the greatest magic-weavers in existence, there is no chance she would fight with anything bladed…unless she created them out of magic and used them with magic. Frigga would never draw in close.
They just needed an excuse to have Frigga die so they could have an excuse for Odin to want to war so they’d have another excuse for Thor to break Loki out of prison so they’d have an excuse for Thor and Loki to take Jane to Muspelheim and get the aether out of her…so they’d have an excuse to not kill her and give Loki a bit of depth.
Which, by the way, is an excuse to make Thor want to leave Asgard for Jane so Loki can quietly take the throne without Thor ever knowing.
Oops sorry, didn’t mean to logic up all your shit.
Okay, no. I disagree with this so hard on so many levels, starting with the use of the phrase “real Frigga,” as if this character alone, for some reason, was rendered inviable by her deviations from myth/comic canon despite the fact that nearly every other character in Thor MCU has also deviated quite a lot in many ways.
But my main issue with this is that it pigeonholes a dynamic female character into an extremely small space and calls it logical. Now, I dislike the Women in Refrigerators trope more than anyone, but if anything’s reducing Frigga’s character to a plot point, it’s that analysis.
For one, I see absolutely no reason why Frigga wouldn’t know how or choose to fight with daggers. She’s the Allmother of Asgard and whether or not she originates from Vanaheim, it makes sense for her to have more up her sleeve than just magic.
I think it’s extremely unfair to claim the “real” Frigga wouldn’t fight with daggers and would only use magic when we see the same exact thing with Loki. He’s a renowned master of magic, known for his sorcery above all else, but we’ve seen him fight with blades and staves in close quarters multiple times over the last few movies. Why is it acceptable for Loki to have multiple combat skills and utilize them all, but not for Frigga, the reigning queen of a realm full of warriors, to do the same?
Now, I’m not saying Frigga is a warrior. If anything she’s a rogue when it comes to melee weapons—just like Loki. Given that it makes perfect sense for someone in Frigga’s position to have multiple skill sets, why wouldn’t she teach them all to her son? There are a thousand different ways in which their matching fighting styles are significant, many of which would involve getting into some serious analyses of Loki’s character/relationship with Frigga, but that’s not what this post is about and it’s already getting long.
Frigga’s fighting style may not match Thor’s, but that’s the whole point. She doesn’t fight like a warrior, she fights like a sorceress. She uses speed and agility and cunning. She outsmarts her foes. She takes them by surprise. Condemning the entire scene because Frigga uses melee weaponry and calling it illogical/”not real” in terms of her characterization doesn’t make sense to me unless it’s coming from an oversimplified look at both the character and the fighting style itself.
When it comes to Frigga’s death, I have some mixed feelings. I hate hate hate it when female characters are killed off to move the story forward or give male characters an excuse to angst all over the plot and in some ways, yes, her death did inspire the plot to move forward, but there was a lot more to it than that.
Saying that having Frigga fight with daggers was just an excuse to kill her off for the plot robs Frigga of her agency in a way the film never does.
In the context of the scene, Frigga’s death is the result of two main things: she is protecting Jane and she is keeping the Aether out of Malekith’s reach (and she’s damn clever about it too). These are choices she made and risks she knowingly took, because she is the Allmother and she’ll do whatever she has to do to protect the realms.
She didn’t fight as an excuse for the writers to kill her, she fought because she is a dynamic character and a queen. She fought because that’s what mothers do when their children are threatened—and when I say “children,” I’m talking about every soul who would suffer if Malekith got his hands on the Aether. Because damn straight they’re Frigga’s children. That’s what being the Allmother means.
Was I happy the writers killed her off? Not at all, and usually I’d call it lazy writing. But there are five key factors that led me to forgive it and lean away from dismissing it as Frigga being fridged:
She died protecting Jane and all the Realms.
She died fighting.
She was killed because she wouldn’t give Malekith the Aether, not because of her relationship to some male protag or other.
Thor would have broken Loki out of prison either way because he needed Loki’s methods to get out of Asgard.
There was no real sign of any significant character development on Thor or Loki’s parts directly resulting from her death.
This got really long, but I really don’t appreciate seeing such an incredible character’s agency utterly stripped away by an excessively simplistic critique of her actions, especially when that character is one of very few female characters who even have agency in media at all (let alone in the superhero genre).
tl;dr: Frigga Allmother is a badass multifaceted character and I see literally no logical reason to claim she wouldn’t fight in close combat as if it’s a fact, without robbing her of her agency entirely.
That is all, carry on.
To add to the above: Frigga didn’t use offensive magic as she was already maintaining a spell. She was making a believable and reactive hologram of Jane Foster appear in the room and run around and look panicked, and she was doing that while fighting like a bad-ass.
She prioritized her abilities, acknowledging it might get her killed. But others would live, and that was enough for her.
It should be enough for us.
Wait, she’s Frigga?! Oh, my god, I’ve seen Mama Thor’s boobs!
She was in The Thomas Crown Affair! How did I not see this before now??!?!?!
It hurt. Ones Above, it hurt. In that instant, Frigga wasn't sure whether she would have preferred that Loki lie. Ever the mother, ever the Queen, she hid the pain, though it nearly tore her in two.
Instead, she smiled, and forgave. Like she always did. He didn't really mean it.
Did he?
(( We can see where Loki gets his mask from. A smile to try and fight away the tears. ))
This scene breaks my heart every fucking time.
He’s a mommy’s boy what can you say…
I nearly died in the theatre when I realized this was the last thing he ever said to her.
Age difference much..
(It's part of my own headcanons that Frigga is much younger than Odin.)

One time I told my friend’s mom that I was “okay” with durian and she immediately started telling everyone that I loved durian and I had to eat all this durian stuff that tasted like farts.

Baby mine, don’t you cry. Baby mine, dry your eyes. Rest your head close to my heart, never to part, baby of mine. Little one, when you play, pay no heed what they say. Let your eyes sparkle and shine, never to tear, baby of mine. If they knew all about you, they’d end up loving you too. All those same people who scold you, what they’d give just for the right to hold you. From your head down to your toes, you’re not much, goodness knows. But, your soul precious to me, sweet as can be, baby of mine. (x)
