In February, the Daily Bugle reported an account of the Asgardian Avenger and king Thor taking an intergalactic feud to the streets of New York City which resulted in several alien casualties, and we have just received word that he’s back at it again. This time, though, the fight came a little closer to home.
Bystanders observed an Asgardian warrior identified by few as Sif Ulfricsdottir as she fought New York City resident and recent Nobel Prize winner Dr. Jane Foster for unknown reasons. The pair were seen grappling, falling from a nearby apartment building before landing on the street below. Witnesses report that Foster was not engaging in the fight, but rather trying to get away before collapsing, after which point her husband joined the fray. Thor used his powers of the storm to fight off the other Asgardian. A fourth, unidentified individual arrived to protect Dr. Foster as emergency personnel arrived.
While the fight was rather self-contained, the result included car damages, traffic hold ups, destruction of public park property, private damages to the apartment building, suspected to be Foster’s own residence, and littering-
Yes, Thor’s hammer has been left at the scene once more. But notably, witnesses describe it dropping out of his grip by its own accord. Previously, Thor sustained injuries that resulted in his leaving the hammer behind, but this time it seems even Mjolnir is tired of the fighting. What does this mean for this royal Avenger?
As we understand the legend, the hammer can only be wielded by someone worthy enough. So has this fight proven that Thor Odinson is no longer worthy to protect our city? All signs point to yes, and the hammer sealed the deal.
Asgardian authorities arrived at the scene to take the brawlers back to the floating city in the sky, leaving the hammer and many confused onlookers who would prefer this type of fight doesn’t become a regularly scheduled occurrence. Perhaps someone new will come along and take on the heroic mantle, but for now, the city has one fewer Avenger and wants to keep it that way. Police are considering installing surveillance around the hammer, which is sure to be a point of interest if people aren’t fatigued by how often it has brought destruction to the city.
As MC Hammer says, Thor, you can’t touch this.
UPDATE: While Jane Foster could not be reached for comment, she has been receiving medical attention since the incident and is in stable condition.
No Asgardians could be reached for comment. As always, the Daily Bugle will keep you informed as any more news breaks.
