I just had a date and realized that the last time I ate one, I was being dragged around a weekend market in the Atlas Mountains by a woman who thought I was a young boy and was terrified that I’d get lost if she didn’t keep a vicelike grip on my wrist the entire time. We didn’t share a language, so explanation was futile, and I gave up and let her drag me around without complaint. She bought a long rope of dates strung together on a bit of twine… they tasted much better than this one.
