I see how afraid so many of us are of each other.
I see how afraid we are to share what we have, for fear we will not have what we need.
I see how lonely so many people feel.
I see this and say, "It is scary."
It is scary how people around the planet live in utter poverty and like slaves to put food on our plates and clothes on our backs, exposed to hazardous conditions, losing their homes and land for the sake of our comfort and entertainment. Yet when asked to make better choices, and to speak up to liberate them, we say, "It is too much." This is scary.
It is scary how we pay people to destroy the very earth we live on to provide us with food and products so toxic they eventually kill us.
It is scary how many toxic products we use ON OURSELVES each day and how this increases the less money people have.
Let us look in our fridges and cabinets and say, "It is scary."
It is scary how some people in this country live.
I witness entire neighborhoods paved with decaying concrete, run down stores, full of houses that are falling apart, occupied by people who struggle to survive each day.
It is scary how many children in this country suffer abuse each day with no one around to support them or help.
Surrounded by crime, they feel uncared for. Such basic necessities as decent food and clean water are not available to them.
Stained carpets, peeling paint, filthy fridges, and cramped quarters, which can all be remedied by a little help from other human beings face them everyday. These are all things we do not want for ourselves, but somehow deem okay for our fellow man.
It is scary how we tell ourselves, "Well, they are alright" and do nothing to help. Some say there is nothing we can do. Have we become so weak we cannot even help each other?
Streets filled with people without homes, with prostitution, where people show each other the least amounts of kindness and care. We see this and say, "they are okay."
Why aren't you afraid of how these people are living?
It is scary that we have millions of graduates earning 40,000 and more, but we have not found a way to collect even just a FRACTION of that to improve areas where our own FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS LIVE.
Why do we value physical possessions more than the happiness of our fellow humans?
It is scary how we speak to each other and treat each other each day.
It is scary how we have traded time with each other for time with television screens and telephone screens, leaving less space in our lives for the meaningful interactions that heal us.
It is scary how many unresolved issues and feuds we have with family and friends. It is scary that we have forgotten to love each other.
It is scary how many lies we believe.
Music that calls us to fear, hate, and discard each other, we have deemed it okay. It is scary.
It is scary that we would rather look at celebrities that look inside of ourselves.
You have made it someone else's job to take care of this earth and you find yourself frightened at their uncaringness, an uncaringness you exhibit in your everyday life.
Being kind is something no government can ever do for us.
Sharing is something no government can ever do for us.
Loving each other is something no government can ever do for us.
Caring about each other is something no government can ever do for us.
Yet all of these, we must do.
