carnists stop using indigenous people in your argument for leather and wool. indigenous people don't use toxic chemicals to tan the leather they make, they don't produce it en masse and destroy the environment around them to do so, and on top of all of this, indigenous people are not and never have been systematically abusing, killing and exploiting animals for profit.
indigenous people are part of the discussion on ethics, animal rights and veganism when they want to be, not when you decide that bringing them up in conversation would win you woke points. there are many indigenous vegans, they are and still can be in touch with their culture and their ancestors, whether they have access to animal-free products or not, the system is against them! fresh and affordable produce is not easily available to everyone, especially remote indigenous communities. whether or not an indigenous person is vegan, is not relevant to a white vegan like me, full stop. it is not for me to dictate or police what indigenous people do, as a rule. and when hunting, fishing, creating things, they still make the least amount of impact and cause as little harm as possible compared to the leather you're wearing that took up so many natural resources that could have been used to grow actual food for so many people, and the skins that made who knows how many people sick during the toxic process of commercial tanning.
veganism is about doing what you can for animals, not simply what is easy, so stop using indigenous people as a blanketed silencing tool against vegans who you think are all white. statistically and historically, you're a liar, and being pretty fuckin racist by using this as a fake argument for the fashion industry and the mass slaughter of sentient beings, just so you can wear your wool sweater, leather boots and jacket and feel righteous and not guilty when you're wearing the skin of several slaughtered beings, and the hair of beings that will statistically, most definitely be slaughtered once their wool production slows.
keep indigenous people out of your mouths when you're spreading lies about veganism. indigenous people are not your debate tools. they are not for you to speak for.
(disclaimer: i'm white, and keep seeing this strawman argument pulled out left right and centre. fucking stop it, shut up, and do some actual research that wasn't carried out by the industries you're supporting. ffs)
