Hi-ya! Your Dandelion Queen has been MIA for too long, I know. My weight loss goal has been a success; it has gotten a bit overwhelming, tbh. Aside from my regular work, it seems to me that all I do all my life is work out and consume greens. Grrrrr. I just discovered that my bathroom sink faucet was busted. Apparently, it has been dripping since last night. And if you think that I’m worried only about my water bill this month, you’re mistaken. Because you know what? I left the sink plugged overnight! I woke up earlier today only to find out that my bathroom was flooded. Thank God that the bathroom floor is two inches lower than the hallway or else, water may have flowed out of the room. My living room would have been flooded as well and my furniture may have been seriously damaged.

I guess this goes without saying that my day started bad. What can we do? Days like this really come just when you’re not expecting them to. Oh well. I cleaned up the bathroom; threw the wet rags into the washer and called my plumber. They arrived in no time and fixed the fixture fast, apparently, by changing the faucet washer and the O-ring. They even showed me how to do it.

Sultana cinnamon porridge

This is what I’d refer to as the ‘classic winter porridge’. It’s full of cinnamon, dried fruit and all round oat-y goodness.

Ingredients: a handful of dried fruit (I like sultanas best), 1 ripe banana, ½ cup porridge oats, ¾ cup non-dairy milk, ¼ cup water, 1/3 tsp cinnamon, 1tsp vanilla extract, (coconut) sugar, other add ins/toppings

Method:

Mash half of the banana in a pan and heat for a few minutes.

Meanwhile, measure the oats, milk and water and add these in. Stir through.

Then add the cinnamon, dried fruit and vanilla. Bring this to the boil then reduce to low. Cook this on low for around 5 minutes.

Stir in the (coconut) sugar. I also added a tbsp of flax seed.

Pour into a bowl and top with the other half of the banana, blueberries and a dash of almond milk.

My drain got clogged all of a sudden and I so searched for articles online that feature tips on how to unclog a sink. I found several of them but didn’t know which to follow. I trusted my gut and used a DIY guide from a plumbing company that’s based in Coral Springs FL. Their instructions worked and I was so grateful that the clog wasn’t as severe as I thought it was. Thank God! Otherwise, my arms would’ve gotten numb for plunging the sink drain or snaking it the whole day.

By the way, here are a few tips that I learned from my experience. To successfully unclog your kitchen sink, there are several solutions to choose from.

1. Use baking soda and vinegar for minor blockages. Use the ratio 1:1 when measuring the amount of baking soda and vinegar that you’ll pour into the drain. It is also important that you wash the ingredients away with hot water after leaving the sink alone the entire night.

2. If the clog won’t get eradicated by the method above, go for the plunger. Make sure that the sink is filled with water that’s high enough to cover the rubber part of the plunger. Plunge up and down for about 15 repetitions then pour hot water into the drain again.

3. If method number 2 won’t work, use a plumbing snake. If you don’t have one, I read that you can actually rent one or buy one from a plumbing supply shop.
