Y’all wanted more actor au! This series is so fun :’’’D
since there’s apparently some sort of confusion on the matter (read: people are idiots)
Space sweepers having their badass, seemingly uncaring characters dote over a young child and furthermore taking in said child as their own with each and every one of them acting as a parent to her?? They really heard me scream for dysfunctional but loving found family and gave me this huh??? THANK YOU
this has been done in other movies before but I do love how in space sweepers everyone was speaking their own languages, using translating devices to understand and connect with each other. so many "futuristic" sci-fi films made by westerners just have everyone speaking english, which is ofc easier for them to write, but still implies that the future for humanity is to follow english-speaking countries, as if we can only advance together through assimilation of a common (western, colonial) language.. in international sci-fi stories like space sweepers, humans use technology that does not require us to sacrifice/abandon our cultural heritage. that's what the future should be!
another thing that was nice abt space sweepers is it made no effort to make captain jang particularly maternal or warm to make her more likable. instead tiger park and tae ho black out with paternal instincts as soon as they see a baby
in space sweepers when park and bubs and tae-ho are all outside doing ship repairs (i love that bubs just hangs out on the hull when she wants some Me Time that’s such a fun detail) and tae-ho goes “you guys think poverty makes us bad, or we’re poor because we’re bad?” and the film answers “poverty made you desperate, and rough around the edges maybe, but you’re not bad” . because as soon as they find that little girl (after an initial period of panic, but hey, they think she’s an android bomb, it’s complicated) they all collectively decide that they have to be good for her, even if it costs them way more than the money they don’t have. no matter how fucked up and uncooperative and incompetent and destructive they are, they have to be good for her and so this grieving pessimist and this washed-up, suspicious hitter and this slightly selfish, petty hoarder and this cocky-asshole excuse for a captain all pull up what’s left of their boots and do their best by the kid and that’s the thesis. you’re never so bad off that you can’t dredge up a scrap of care or empathy and never so far gone you can’t use it
Him with a kid is just.. different
Everyone should watch Space Sweepers right now.

There’s a trans robot
Side note: the robot is both very good and very bad at make-up
It reunites Song Joong-ki and Kim Tae-Ri from Mr Sunshine, possibly one of the best kdramas ever
Although it’s korean cinema it’s one of the most international films I’ve ever seen. There’s like seven different languages flying around
Super adorable child actor
Arcs of loss, grieving, redemption, sacrifice and what it means to be good
Richard Armitage
Did I mention the robot? The robot’s super cool
Go watch it
bubs, hurling a harpoon: I can't talk right now, I'm doing hot girl shit!
they’re so STUPID i love them so much
just one amazing robot reading rilke in outer space <3
okay so for anyone who hasn’t seen space sweepers (2021), they did something really cool with language — because it’s a futuristic scifi movie, all the characters have in-ear instant translators, so characters in the same scene will all be speaking different languages and they all just understand. the main cast of like five people is korean, but every other character all speaks a different language
i rewatched the movie and this time i kept count of all the different languages, and i heard:
korean
english
spanish
nigerian pidgin (it took forever for me to figure out what specific language karum speaks)
mandarin
russian
arabic
danish
french
filipino
and i just think that’s neat 😁
