12/3/16 - Quite the Ride

I feel like I’ve been neglecting this blog for so long, even though I’ve had so many memories already happen between my last post and now. Sorry to keep you all hanging, wherever you are. Anyways, it’s now December and time is running out on my days at Magic Kingdom. I extended my program, but I applied to do Same Role/Different Location and it got approved. Hopefully this means I can leave my MK days in the past.

I can say with certainty that this program has definitely been very different from my last program, in good ways and bad. I’ve grown a lot while working at MK. I’ve seen the good side of work and the bad, as well as everything in between. My co-workers have been great, my roommates have been wonderful. Everything has been so different however that I don’t really know how to process it....

I guess we could start were every high school story begins. Drama. There has been soooooooo much more drama than my last program, in both work and home. Animal Kingdom was so chill that there was no need for drama. Either that, or drama never found me because I was so happy to be at work. Nowadays, everywhere I go there’s drama. Hopefully I’m leaving the drama behind when I move to my new location. Only time will tell.

Now for the good news! My roommate I share a room with is a God-send. I love her so much, she is so kind and generous and funny. Ahhhh, she’s like the sister I never had. She stays up until I get home from work and we have late night conversations all the time. I’ve never been such good friends with a roommate like this, it’s very refreshing and wonderful. I’m hoping that she views me in the same way, because she deserves every ounce of respect she gives me.

All in all, I’m hoping this program can only go up from here. There’s still New Years I have to worry about... But other than that, I’m ready for something great!

10/6/16 - Hurricane Update

I got a call from Disney and from my leader that I am not required to come into work! Everyone who is scheduled to work at 3pm or later is exempt from work today because all parks close at 5pm and will remain closed all through tomorrow. I’m glad that I don’t have to go into work, but I feel bad for all CPs who work in resorts. My roommate got selected to be a part of the ride out crew at her work location even though she didn’t sign up for it. The only benefit I can see her having is being able to make BIG bank.

Speaking of bank though, I probably won’t have any money coming in from my next paycheck! I might have enough money to pay fro rent, but I know I’m gonna need to save most of today’s paycheck to last me the next 2 weeks.

P.S: Cake has been postponed for my birthday, but we got Chick-fil-A!!

10/5/16 - Hurricane Matthew

This is the first time I’ve been away from my parents during a major hurricane. I’ve seen plenty of hurricanes in my time, but there hasn’t been one like this in almost 12 years. I’m a bit freaked out lol. We’re currently watching movies together to distract from whether or not we may even be working tomorrow. I’m assuming Magic Kingdom will continue operations, but they’ve cancelled the Halloween party for tomorrow, and I’m working during the party.

They’re still telling me to go into work though!! I swear, Disney isn’t about that hurricane life.

P.S.: Did I mention the hurricane is making landfall on my birthday?

9/13/16 - First Impressions

My first full weekend of official shifts was absolutely the worst work weekend I’ve ever had in my entire life.

Here’s how it went down. On my last day of training, my assessment day, I realized that my first three shifts were going to be a challenge. Three full days of double shifts, in a row, all days over 11 hours long. It didn’t really sink in how bad the weekend was going to be until the night before my three shifts started.

The first day was okay. My feet were really hurting me and I was starting to lose a little of the magic.

The second day was the worst one of them all. My feet were on fire, my knees were on fire. The lady who was supposed to come and get me for my lunch possibly purposefully waited until half of my break was over before coming to find me to relieve me. So by the time I got to CDS for break, my lunch was almost over. I cried. I was tired and in pain and hungry and I cried. It was really stupid of me to do that but I had had enough and I needed to sit. I cried at the end of my shift as well when I was doing a closing trash run. I was just so done.

My third and final double shift consisted of streets and restrooms. The streets shift ended on a positive note, I bused tables and met some really nice guests who took time to talk to me. Then I was moved to restrooms and from then on I was able to relax and take things slow. Once the end of the night hit I was so relieved to go home that I didn’t even set an alarm for the next day.

I survived the worst first weekend of work I’ve ever had in my life. Disney tried to break me, tried to weed out the weaker ones. The other girl I trained with didn’t make it through with a positive attitude. She’s already dead set on transferring (even though I’m sure CPs can’t transfer). I made it through and I had two days off after it, which have already gone by. I don’t know how this next week is going to go but I’m going to pray it goes well. Hopefully it will get better. It has to. At least I hope it will.

8/27/16 - Traditions

So this morning was the big day. Traditions class, the day you get your name tag and you become someone. I’ve been through it before, and I can say it definitely hasn’t changed. With the exception of some new videos, we once again heard the tear jerking letter from the mom Catherine, took a trip through the Utilidoors (my future home for the next however long), and officially received our IDs to get access to everything.

Unfortunately for me, I already have my ID, which has to be reactivated. The only way I can get my ID reactivated is to go to the ID Services Department. Which is closed on the weekends. And my Traditions is on Saturday with another training day tomorrow on Sunday. I don’t really know how I’m going to get into work tomorrow morning, but I just hope I’m not late for my first day.

8/25/16 - Three Days Off

On the first day of my three days off, my roommates and I spent the morning watching Greys Anatomy. I went to meet a friend from my last program and we hung out at Disney Springs (DTD forever) to get lunch before she went to work. After that, I went back to DTD with all my roommates and hung out there until closing.

Today, the next day, we’ve spent my entire day sitting in the apartment watching How I Met Your Mother. It’s been a very lazy day just hanging out in front of the tv. I might go out later and get a few groceries, but for now it’s just looking like a lazy day in the neighborhood.

Tomorrow I’m planning on going some school chores before my school’s semester starts. I want to get everything out of the way before starting on my class so I can make the busy transition less painful. I didn’t take any classes when I first did the DCP. I’ll keep you guys updated as much as possible on how it goes.

8/22/26 - Check-in Day

Arrival day is always the worst whirlwind of stuff. Check-in wasn't that bad this time around because they have all the CPs check in at the complex they're living in. It went by very fast so it gave me plenty of time to get moved in and packed. Somehow I made my side of the room look decent enough to live in! Hooray for the small victories. Onboarding and Housing meetings are tomorrow, which is different from my first program. Also different from my first program is the fact that they don't tell you straight away where you're working. You find out at Onboarding instead, which I'm ok with. The only thing I find I'm not comfortable with is the fact that I have to pay for my parking decal now... $50 for a sticker so I can park my car. On my last program, parking stickers were free... Gotta figure out how this is going to work.

7/28/16 - Movin’ On Up

Today I put my resignation letter on my boss’s desk at my desk job. I’ve never written a resignation letter before, so I of course asked Google to help me with the outline and small details. I thought it was very exciting to turn in my letter and it put me in a really good mood for some reason. I’m going to miss my co-workers and my boss, but I can’t wait to leave it in two weeks.

My boss was pretty funny today though. Before I could even get back to my desk after giving him the letter, I heard him groan pretty loudly from his office and I couldn’t help but laugh. I don’t think he’s ever had a student employee turn in a resignation before, so that was fun for me. All in all, can’t wait for my two weeks to be up, and only three weeks and three days until I’m walking into Casting again for my next Disney College Program adventure to begin!

Visiting Pastors - 5/15/16

As I'm waiting for my next program, God has brought to my church a man who is a pastor in Kenya. I try to contain my excitement, because a lot of people don't know my history, and would probably think I'm weird. But I'm very excited because he reminds me of my home park, Disney's Animal Kingdom. The first thing that this man said to the congregation was a song that I heard daily while working in Africa in DAK. And I was able to sing along. "Jambo, Jambo bwana, Habari gani, Mzuri sana. Wageni, Wakaribishwa, Kenya yetu  Hakuna Matata." Of course, I'm so excited on the inside because I find out that they use this song as a church welcome song in his country. This song that I've been singing for a year of my life is a church song in Kenya. I couldn't believe it, I wanted more. He spoke for a Sunday and then became part of our congregation. He then went back to his country to close out some business, but he said he would be back. He sent my father videos of Kenya and pictures of a real life savanna and his homeland. Today, he is speaking in our church. He will be teaching for the rest of the summer. He's so full of God that sometimes I get intimidated. I wish sometimes I was more like him. But I'm very excited to hear more of his songs and stories. They help me feel a little closer to my favorite park.

2/15/16 - Truth for Thought

I put up a happy smile all the time because I want to show my guests my hospitality towards them. I want them to know God's love like I do. They may not know it at first, but I want them to know the hospitality of God through my actions.

1/25/16 - Interviews

Today is my phone interview for my second time around in the Disney College Program. I’m going to try and emphasize that I want to go into Concierge, but with my background in Custodial, I’m worried that they’re just gonna put me back in there again. IF they do put me back in Custodial, I pray for Animal Kingdom. It’s the only park I feel I’ve mastered and that I can do very well in. If they give me Concierge, I pray for either DAK Lodge or the MK resorts, even though my likeliness of getting MK resorts is slim to none...

Just pray things go well, and that I’m put down the path that’s right for me.
