by far the funniest thing about the rest of the ruling class trying to do away with nina is that she literally can’t be killed. someone spikes her dinner at a state function with enough poison to wipe out a city and it does nothing. a ruling family spends hundreds of millions to tailor a deadly virus to her DNA and even more for someone to pass it to her and it just doesn’t work. every head of every pillar family including orise is FREAKING out trying to find a way to a) kill nina and b) make it stick and meanwhile nina is like. throwing herself off the top of the nearest pillar for fun

#once they find out that nina won't die even if her entire body is destroyed they become outright terrified of her #not because they fear her as a threat to themselves individually & not even as a threat to their hold on power #but simply bc she's a problem they can't get rid of no matter how much money they spend & no matter what kinds of deals they cut #& it freaks. them. out

theater is such an integral part of culture in nina’s setting that people convicted of murder get lighter sentences if they commit it in a dramatic enough way. it’s not written into law, but it’s such a strong cultural expectation that judges can lose their whole careers over handing down too harsh a sentence on a ‘good’ murder (or too light a sentence on a ‘boring’ one). tauhrelian judge voice if you have to commit a murder for gods’ sake at least do it with style
