Zygariaphobia: Afraid to get on the scale?
pronounced: ZYE-guh-REE-uh-FOH-bee-uh preface: in one of my uni courses a couple years back, I had to use my knowledge of Ancient Greek root words to create a new term. while I didn’t submit this one, zygariaphobia literally translates to a fear of scales :3
SO, I thought I would harness my love of writing and make a little teasing scenario about the prompt. Enjoy! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's been a while since you last stepped on the scale, dear.
Nervous, are we? Hmm? I don't think you have anything to be afraid of.
I mean, with the way you've been eating, it’d be no real surprise that you’ve gained some weight.
Don’t play dumb, you know exactly what I’m talking about. What size pants are you wearing right now? A sixteen? Damn babe. And what size were you when we started dating again? An eight? And that was what… almost a year ago? See…my point exactly—either companies are making their clothes MUCH smaller, or you’ve gotten MUCH bigger (and we both know it’s probably NOT the former).
Even then, those sixteens are looking pretttttyyyy tight.
Can you not feel the way the waistband cuts into your soft belly? Or are they so tight, you’ve lost feeling? Don’t give me that look— I’m sure you’ve looked in a mirror lately, your body has become hard NOT to notice.
I mean, your gut is one thing, but you’ve gotten bigger everywhere: your arms and legs, your ass, even your face has a nice little double chin coming in.
Come on, the scale won’t bite. I want to quantify just how much damage you’ve done to your body.
Your gain is undeniable, so why are you still so hesitant? What are you soooo afraid of?
It can't possibly be the number: anyone can see with a glimpse of your corpulent frame that the number is high. Much too high for a girl of your height.
Do you even know what you weigh? I mean, I know you went to the doctors a couple months back, but I doubt you were able to see the scale, let alone your feet, over that massive gut.
You know what I think? You're not afraid of the number, or even what it means for your health. Looking at you, I’d guess you were maybe…245 pounds. At 5'2, that's morbidly obese. You’re almost as round as you are tall.
No, you know what I think you fear most? The fact that deep down inside, you like this. No, you lovethis. Outgrowing all of your clothes, giving into your hedonistic tendencies. You’re just too proud to admit it.
So, are you gonna hop on?
