Spockthewok (aka Will Nixon) wrote a master's thesis on pink flashing, figured out the cause and potentially found the first genuine fix.

One of the reasons, why I stopped playing Twinhills, was pink flashing. I tested v1 of this fix. I loaded the neighborhood without this fix:

And a second time with the fix:

This is insane 🤯 And I have high graphics settings:

Man. This takes me back! I think, this fix works! 🤩🤩🤩🤩

(Increased lot skirt and enabled all neighborhood flora and on a big apartment lot, that has been flashing pink even on low settings.)

I've been wanting to try playing a medieval game after hearing about the Medieval Charter Challenge, but I honestly wasn't up for fully diving into that so I'm playing a Build A City Challenge with a veneer of medieval paint and a few tweaks to the rules.

Our founder here is Dominik Briar, he's a Cancer and a Knowledge sim.

The vast majority of the first week was spent simply on maintaining the garden, usually in a state of dishabille.

This wasn't very good for Dominik's aspiration levels. No real fears happened, but his aspiration levels steadily trickled down as the weeds and pests drained almost all of his free time.

I did make him socialize with the odd passerby, and he had enough time to paint one (1) painting over the course of the week.

Around mid-week I noticed Kennedy Cox kept popping up on the lot so I had Dominik greet him. Two things became apparent: 1) That Kennedy is kind of a dick.

But also 2) Dominik and Kennedy have two bolts. I can only assume Kennedy kept passing by to sneak peeks at the hot elf guy who keeps doing gardening work in his underpants, and then when he had a chance to have an actual conversation with said hot elf guy Kennedy immediately decided to Annoy him because he has the heart of a pigtail-pulling elementary schooler.

But I wanna get this reproductive show on the road so dickishness or not, Kennedy and Dominik are getting married.

After moving Kennedy in (+1 to Sims count) he was enlisted to help with the upkeep of the garden. Kennedy is a Scorpio (three nice points...) and a Fortune sim, and I gave him a Romance secondary.

On Sunday I had Dominik pay the taxes with a temporary sci fi computer thing because I didn't have an alternative that fits the aesthetic. Dominik paid +2,100 simoleons to the town funds.

Taxes in Breowadia are based on roughly 20% of the home lot value, plus any owned businesses, and new community lots are paid for via those funds. I'm eventually planning on getting a church built but that's going to be pretty pricey so it'll take a while.

At the last minute I built (with some difficulty thanks to the elevation) the Downhill Corner Market and had the Briar family buy it. That gave us +1 community lot and +1 to the Sim Multiplier, bringing the Total Population to 4. (Wowie!) The market did okay, they got to Rank 1 and then went home.

The week finished off with Dominik getting attacked by bees.

'twas browsing Plumb Bob Keep for defaults to toss into my game (maybe one day I will actually properly play a medieval neighborhood instead of just continually tweaking my downloads folder) and came across this post from twelve years ago:

Me, who knows how to edit TXTR files and nothing else: I could do that, maybe??

So I grabbed one of the defaults from this thread and this desert default and did some copy+pasting and resizing. Results were mixed.

Neighborhood view looks decent overall imo.

Lot view was a little trickier and I realized belatedly I'd have to edit the floor tiles that came with the default (...though that may have been unnecessary because it looks like you could probably have placed them Just So to avoid any grass showing up.)

I think on a surface level it looks decent, if a little seams-y, however-

I think if you look in closely at certain parts you can tell the original default was stone + grass. And editing the snow textures was tricky, I was concerned about how it would look in winter.

Turns out I was right to be concerned!

When there's no snow the roads outside the lot have these weird shadows around the sides, and when snow has accumulated on the ground we have the awkward abrupt cutoff between the heavy snow and the lotskirts AND the roads outside the lot revert to their normal asphalty appearance.

That said if you don't have winter in your desert neighborhood (which I thiiiink most people wouldn't?) and you toss in some distracting deco and actual buildings, it works well enough. Which I guess is the same for any neighborhood terrain, a big empty neighborhood is always going to look kind of weird.

Filling the gaps - part 49 - ambodydoubletshirtsweatsep2 and ymbodydoubletshirtsweats

Another simple replacement for scholarly sims. I replaced ambodydoubletshirtsweatsep2 and ymbodydoubletshirtsweats with the same tunics. They were made by Sunni. They share textures.

The mesh is available at MTS or included in Sunni's archive. If you are using historical content, you probably have it already.

This mesh does not have any morphs as far as I can tell. (Maybe someone is able to fix that...? Or has it been fixed already and I just forgot it existed? Totally possible.)

Outfits are categorised as everyday & formal wear. They may spawn on townies an use the "normal shoe" sound.

All files have been compressed. Preview pictures are included in the archive.

The mesh is not included. As I have said before: The mesh is available elsewhere. Here or here.

Hope this doesn't trouble you but I thought I should note I had a problem with this file; for whatever reason when I tried loading a lot where a sim was wearing this outfit, my game would freeze up and fail to load.

I didn't have any issues with it while browsing CAS.

I'm not sure why I had this issue and it may very well be just a me thing, but I thought I should mention it in case anyone else has an issue crop up.

I was unable to reproduce the issue (neither with YA or Adults), but thanks for letting me know. I really don't know, why this file would cause such an issue. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for taking a look! I've slightly narrowed down the issue and have realized it's probably something to do with Aligeth's nightshirt mesh; my game was also freezing when I tried looking at elder male sleepwear and after doing some moving and digging in my defaults folder I made the connection. For some reason my game just doesn't like that mesh, I guess...? Very mysterious. 🤔

Zero Simoleon Lane - starter lot that costs $0

I took a 1x1 lot (which costs negative $400 by itself), placed a tent and compost bin and used the Magic Wand of Awesomesauce to depreciate them in value, then added garden plots until I got the lot's value to exactly $0. I had trouble with the apartments I built for my apocalypse hood but I don't want my Sims starting with enough money to buy a house, so I came up with this idea. I can start my Sims out with no money and give them each a little squat to live on until they can afford something better

How to read object error logs: I just want to know what causes it!!

Reason for the error This info is extremely useful for modders. For example, stack number out of range -error here is solvable by changing one value (and is a common error to get since it's easy to forget to change it).

Common errors are listed here.

BHAV where the error happens This info is useful for everyone! If you're getting an error, with this knowledge you can check if you have any mods that include the culprit BHAV. It's possible that the mod causes the error by itself, or that there's a mod conflict.

You can search for specific BHAVs with SiMidge.

Or you can dump the error log to What Caused This and it will do the same search for you.

The specific line in that BHAV that causes the error This info is essential for modders. Points out exactly where the problem is. Please provide the error log every time you report an error caused by a mod.

4to2 Sixam Skybox ... still a work in progress :)

Ever played TS4 and visited the secret alien world of Sixam and wanted it so badly for TS2? Well, I've got something for you then. ^^

I've been working on this little side-project these past few days, lol. It's still not perfect, as I've just noticed that the sky texture is not quite seamless, and I'd still have to do the snowy textures and all for winter, but it's... at least getting somewhere! :)

Someone requested the decorated PV terrain pictured on my site with this bridge, so I’ve added it. It has more roads and beach areas and features my bridge. Use Hood Replace to copy it to a Pleasantview or build directly. As always, if lots look funky, you may need to pick them up and snap them down again. You will need to move waves out of the way to place beach lots, but once that is done, they should be no problem. My bridge needs to be in Downloads for it to show up.

Smart AgeCorrect

This is an edit of Chris Hatch’s AgeCorrect mod for lazy people like me that can’t be bothered to take the mod in and out when switching hoods/lifespan mods, so credit for the original mod goes to him.

It will only run the first time you open a neighborhood or if you swap lifespan mods, so you can just leave this in your downloads and it will only run when necessary automatically.

Update 1 by @simnopke: Pets are taken into account now and days left are adjusted proportionally (Say, if a Sim has 5 days left to the next age group, and the age duration is changed to 50 from 30, then their days left will be 8)

Essential Mods

Mootilda’s Hood Checker ─  A necessary tool used to check for corruption in your neighborhoods.

Hack Conflict Detection Utility (HCDU) ─  Another necessary tool that finds hack conflicts in your game. Does not find them all, but very useful nonetheless. I also recommend SiMidge as it is able to find many more conflicts that HCDU.

SimPE ─ Number one essential tool/program that allows you to view package files, tune/create mods, edit ages/names/etc. download version 0.75.68.

Lazy Duchess’ RPC Launcher ─ A custom launcher with added features and fixes. Includes a Discord Rich Presence, First Born Syndrome Fix, Borderless, and Better Live Mode Camera. Can’t live without this!

Delphy’s Download Organizer ─ I find this program to be incredibly helpful when I need to see my mods/cc organized by date downloaded.

Anti-Redundancy ─  Eliminates the spawning of redundant NPCs.

No Death Type Loss ─Sims no longer lose their death type upon moving their tombstone to a community lot. Also, ghosts will now be the correct color from the type of death.

No Corrupt Death ─  Suppresses the corrupt death memory.

No Unlink on Delete ─  Game stops partially destroying sims files when deleting a tombstone.

FFS Lot Debugger ─  Lots of very useful debug options. I use the pretty vase version. :)

No Sim Loaded ─ Eliminates “Sim Loaded” and other tokens when loading up a lot. Also prevents and fixes the Super Duper Hug Bug.

Gussy Up ─ Change, buy, and plan playable and townie Sims clothes.

Sim Blender ─ Holy Grail management mod. Allows for a host of different options. A serious must have!

Sim Manipulator ─  Similar to Sim Blender but with several more options. You can have one or both, I use them interchangeably.

No Townie Regen ─  Prevents the game from spawning new townies.

Day Setter ─  Sets the day of the week for the current lot. Necessary to keep hoods in sync.

Weather Controller ─  Sets the season and weather on the current lot.

Inge’s Age Group Tweak ─  Custom age length mod. Tutorial on how to tune age span: here. Recommended use with Age Correct.

Age Correct ─ This mod corrects the age span length of a hood. Must use with Inge’s Age Group Tweak in order to change entire hood’s age span. Remove from downloads after loading a lot and receiving the pop up that the mod worked.

Auto Save Game ─ A pop up appears that asks if you’d like to save the game.

Comparing Aspiration Calculators

I decided to compare the 4 aspiration calculators I know of by calculating what 1st and 2nd aspirations the sims from Pleasantview would have according to the calculators.

I know toddlers and children can’t have any other aspiration except Grow Up but I decided to just go ahead and calculate them anyway for the sake of it.
