“Uhhhh how long have you been standing there”
“Not long enough by my reckoning, then again there’s always next time Jacky-boy.”
Captain and Crew
Harriet froze as she heard the voice ring out across the hall, but by the time her face had turned up from her tea there was a pleasant, polite smile on her lips as she stood. “Well, its not Eton College that we’ve come to but you can’t begrudge a captain or her crew the chance at an education, can you?” She moved a hand towards her table. “Let’s make a spot for the dear Captain, shall w-” By the time she’d finished speaking there was already an extra chair at the table in the middle of the hall, and an extra cup. Harriet should have taken it as a sign of exactly how entranced her crew was already with the presence of Captain Jas Hook but she was busy concentrating on her father.
“To what do I owe the pleasure, Captain? You’ve come quite a way just for a visit…” She motioned politely with her hand to the table for him to take a seat with her. “I thought you’d be taking to the ocean, what with being fresh off the island.”
People would have probably found it hard to believe, but as a young lad Hook had actually attended university before he was whisked away to Neverland. He wasn’t the model student, but really did anyone expect any less from the pirate? He exceeded expectations in the extracurricular activities, although it was fair to say that they weren’t exactly above board. Again, not a huge surprise. He planted himself on the chair, his feet resting on the table. It wasn’t hard for the man to take control of the room, he was a legend, if he did say so myself. “I have to admin Harriet, this has been my best welcome yet.”
The question brought a small smile to his lips, he knew that although he had managed to avoid trouble with his eldest until now, which was impressive with his track record, the upcoming conversation was bound to start some controversy. “Well that’s the thing lass, a pirate needs a crew. I may have lost a few members since we’ve been apart, but I’m looking at your set up here, and I’m sure they’d prefer to work for someone with more... experience.”
sammy-smee:
Sammy’s own relationship with the pirate wasn’t nearly as fraught with hurt as Hook’s children, mostly because he didn’t look to the man for love or any sort of affection. He was a hard teacher and a leader, and the younger pirate had learned a lot from him. His own father had given him the love and affection he needed, though he did understand Harriet and the rests anxiousness about their father’s arrival.
“It has been awhile, and thanks. Glad I didn’t stay a runt forever.” Sammy grinned a bit before shrugging. “Working as Harriet’s first mate. We’ve all been keeping trained and ready, working for a ship of our own. Causing havoc when we can but not too often. The Isle hasn’t really been anywhere any of us wanted to return after all. How’ve you been Captain? I’m sure it was rough over there with mostly only the original Villains left.”
Sometimes Hook found it difficult to believe that this tough and disciplined boy was the son of his bumbling first mate. Unlike his father Sammy was always up for a training session, and never whined about his teaching methods. Still Smee was the closest thing to a best friend Hook had, plus was the only crew member who had constantly stuck by him over the years, and was probably the only person on his ship he hadn’t threatened with death.
“You’ve grown into a true pirate my boy. Still doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for improvement.” That was Hook’s mantra really, the only person he didn’t feel needed any improvement was himself. “We can start up training again soon though.” It wasn’t an offer to the kid, it was a demand. “It was fine on the Isle. You know me, my boy, if there’s trouble being caused then I’m in the middle of it.”
Captain and Crew
Harriet Hook sat calmly with legs crossed in her seat next to a table in the middle of the event hall of the University as she watched her crew setting up streamers and signs, chairs and tables, and sipping on a cup of tea from a large pot in the center of the table.
“The right side is crooked…” she called to the pair of pirates on two ladders hanging the ‘Welcome Show Choir Alumni Class of 1984′ sign over the stage. “A little higher… higher… higher… there we go!”
Taking another sip she smiled to herself. Sure, she had to do the planning of these events as a condition of her ‘rehabilitation grant’ through the Kingdom of Audadon, but she was sure that part of the reason she’d gotten it was because she could easily call on a crew to help take care of the grunt work.
@gohookyourself
Hook couldn’t exactly sneak onto the campus, he wasn’t the most inconspicuous person in the world. He was obviously too old to be a student, and definitely wouldn’t pass as an academic. Plus with the way his hooked hand was swinging around, there was no question as to who he was.
Still, he had heard his daughter was here, and she was the only one of his offspring he hadn’t had the pleasure of bumping into. The other two weren’t exactly overjoyed at his reappearance, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to try his luck again, especially as this child had the crew.
“Harriet.” He smirked as he looked at the set up. “I am not going to lie, you kids keep surprising me. It’s like none of you remember where you come from.” It wasn’t like he expected them to have taken over the place (yet), but still they shouldn’t exactly be fitting into society.
Harriet had ordered him off to rest, the only way the First Mate ever really left his Captain’s vicinity, though he wasn’t off to rest. Nightmares haunted him, so he very rarely willingly rested. Only when necessary, and today wasn’t one of those days. So he made his way to the bridge as he often did, figuring he might visit with his family awhile where they lived nearby.
What he wasn’t expecting was to see someone else out this late, much less for it to be Captain James Hook himself. While Harriet and some of the other crew didn’t hold any affection for the older pirate, Sammy owed a lot to him and was glad he’d been freed from the Isle. “Well Well, Captain Hook out and about again. It’s good to see you sir.”
@gohookyourself
Seeing another figure lurking around the bridge was enough to awaken his curiosity. As he got even closer, Hook was almost happy to see that it was the Smee kid. Happiness wasn’t exactly an emotion that the pirate often felt, but Sammy was the only one of the kids who seemed to not only respect him, but was what he wanted from his own family.
“Sammy, my boy, it feels like a lifetime since you were last on my ship, you’ve grown a lot since I last saw you.” In a way, he was the closest Hook felt he had to a son, and he was sure that his other boy knew it. Maybe he gave Sammy the attention in an attempt to kick Harry into shape, but god knows it wasn’t working. “Tell me what you’ve been up to then.”
vk-harry:
Hook collapsed as Hook kicked him down, not even bothering to try and go for his sword an hook again as he fell to his hands and knees. “’m certainly better than you ever gave me credit for Hook. I did make you bleed.’ He smirked a bit, pleased by that much though the smile disappeared when Hook kicked him. At the continued insults the pirate just groaned, leaning back to at least be on his knees and looking up at his father, knowing this was where he’d die. “Just kill me and get it over with. We both know you’ve only been waiting for an excuse and now you have one. Stop blustering and just do it.”
“A nick, child. Lesser than you have done more damage.” They both knew he was talking about the boy who never grew up. The captain had promised himself that he wouldn’t even give that kid the honour of even using his name. Despite the disappointment Hook felt, there was no way that he could kill his only son, no matter how useless insults the kid was. “You’ve got another chance lad, if I were you I'd use it wisely. That means staying the hell out of my way.” He didn’t bother giving the boy a hand up, instead just leaving him to fend for himself. “If you cause me any more trouble Harry... Well let’s just say I won’t be as kind.”
vk-harry:
Harry lost his focus on the fight for a moment when his hook came back with blood, never once expecting he’d be the one to draw first blood in this fight. Hell, he hadn’t expected to last this long in a battle with his father, so it had actually gone better than planned on that front. However, at Hook’s words the younger man had to snap back to attention, any slip-up now spelling almost certain death for him and he knew it. Harry returned the passion, needing to win for his siblings sake but he still didn’t have that ruthlessness towards his father he’d need to win. Hook’s opening finally came, Harry having difficulty fending off the more malicious attacks and the Captain’s blade found his son’s chest, tearing through shirt and skin diagonally across his chest. Harry didn’t make a sound beyond a pained grunt, a small part of him upset about the shirt but he kept his weapons raised. He didn’t want to give up, even if defeat was sure and he was losing blood quickly. CJ and Harriet were worth full effort.
Despite what people may think of him, Hook didn’t want to actually kill his son, just wanting to teach him a lesson if nothing else. Still as his sword made the cut into the chest, he knew that he had won the fight. It took more effort than expected, but still, a win was a win in the pirates eyes. “You’ve lost boy.” It took almost no effort for him to remove the sword and hook from out of his child’s reach as he kicked him to the floor. “Maybe you should give up on this laddy, you never were as talented as the other kids were you?” He was aware of the saying ‘you shouldn’t kick someone while they’re down’, but Hook just couldn’t stop himself from giving him a little kick. “For a small while I had hope for you in that fight, but just like always, you managed to disappoint me. I should have guessed really.”
cldtales:
@gohookyourself
She had not expected to see him here. Belle lowered the flaxen hood of her half cape and linked her hands in front of her stomach. She tilted her head up, appearing as regal as the title she carried. “Captain.” she nodded at him, a little half tilt of her head. “I would presume, that being so far from home, that you would be seeking help. “ While her tone was not unkind, the wary flash of her dark eyes told him she was naught but wary. “-How can i be of assistance?”
He couldn’t help but be in awe of the Queen in front of him. He held a deep hatred for her, as she was part of the reason he had been locked away for so long, but still she was magnificent. “My Queen.” He curtsied in return, the sarcasm dripping from his tone. “Ah but you see, this is my home now. With that pesky barrier gone I’m free to start up a new life, start anew.” A hungry look flashed over him at her offer of help, although he could see that she was restraint. “Why, you could assist me in many ways. I mean I haven’t been over here before, maybe you could show me the ropes.”
vclicnt:
“it’s not like i lack ambition, it’s just something i’ve never had a drive to do. something you wouldn’t know about since i don’t think you know a single one of my interests.” the pirate said to her dad. cj loved to perform and be on stage, something that really wasn’t an option on the isle but could be in auradon. “i have other ambitions than to deal with pirates for my whole life. i may be one, but doesn’t mean i want to deal with them everyday.” she added. “i will notice you, you might not take this place seriously, but i do. i made a life for myself here, one that has nothing to do with you.” she snapped. “follow me.”
It was true, Hook didn’t know anything about his daughter, but if it had nothing to do with piracy and/or evil schemes, then he honestly didn’t give a damn. “If you think I wanted to deal with my dirty pirate crew everyday, then you’re mistaken lassie. I had this thing called perseverance, kids these days don’t seem to know what that word means.” When his children arrived, he didn’t expect them to have minds of their own, and if he was being honest, it was the worst part of having his own children. “I take this place very seriously, it’s not my fault that you don’t see that.” Of course he had bigger plans in mind, but they weren’t for his children to know about.
vk-harry:
Harry didn’t mind the laughter, knowing his father didn’t know how comfortable Harry was with the hook at this point. “And that’s all you are. Tricks and denial.” The pirate didn’t bother arguing, his body tensed for the fight and a dark grin curling his lips as his father attacked. He was surprised at how quickly he moved into it, parrying the blow before they began their dance. For Harry, he relied on speed and technique, the young man strong but not enough to rely on brute force. The hook was used interchangeably with his blade, both the sword and hook coming at his father with intent. Where he was likely to end up failing was Harry had no intention of murdering his father, any openings he had of truly causing deep harm he didn’t go for, only trying for shallow injuries. He may have no love lost for the man, but despite best effort, Harry still cared about him and didn’t want him dead.
Hook didn’t expect much from his only son. If he was being fully truthful, he didn’t expect anything at all. So to see him actually show some skill brought the tiniest bit of pride to the pirates dead heart. Not enough for him to actually acknowledge it, no, all his effort was going into making sure that he wasn’t shown up by his pathetic son. For a while the fight seemed to be fairly even, at certain points it looking like the elder had the upper hand. That was until his boy manage to nick him, only slightly, on the arm. “You’ve done it now laddie.” The fact his son had gotten the better of him jut meant that Hook wouldn’t even try to go easy on him, not that he was particularly going easy beforehand. Now he just fought with passion, as nothing meant more to him than his pride.
vk-harry:
As soon as Hook’s hand twitched towards his blade Harry’s was out of it’s sheath and in front of him at the ready. His other hand did grab the hook, the boy used to fighting with it and finding it only fair in this particular battle. “We’ve not interacted in well over six years father. And while you may be a coward, I’m not.” He matched his father’s spin of the blade, glad for once swordsmanship had been his chosen profession here in Auradon. “I told you, I’d do anything to keep you away from them. Harriet and CJ can handle themselves, and so can I.”
“Nice trick boy. But that’s all it is.” The pirate couldn’t hide his laugh at his son grabbing the hook. If the captain had the choice of using his hand, he would. It had taken years for Hook to finally master his namesake, he had the advantage of experience, or so he thought. “There is one coward here laddie, and that’s the one who ran away from his dear father.” His voice had turned into a hiss by this point, but that was the talking over with. With a strike towards his only son, he made it clear that the conversation was over. Now was the time for fighting.
vk-harry:
Harry didn’t move either, a dark smirk on his lips as he regarded his father. He was Uma’s first mate, and he’d become more than his father knew. He’d also inherited enough of his father’s insanity to have a crazed look in his eye. “And your an old man who can’t bear his own failures. I’ve no qualms about fighting bloody cowards either. Or is the term codfish.” He stood firm, his grip ready on his blade as he stared down his father. No, he’d never be enough for the man, and even if he begged for it he’d never be able to earn his father’s love. And that scored him deeply than any of this could. “You may not owe me anything, but you owe them space. If they find you that’s on them. Leave. Them. Alone.”
Anyone could see the similarities between the two men. Of course Hook wasn’t anyone. He was a stubborn old man who couldn’t see his son as anything more than a failure. “Honestly son, I’ve listened to your childish crap for long enough, if you’re so sure that you’re an adult, prove yerself to me.” He pulled his sword from it’s sheath, holding it up towards his boy. “You could stay and fight... And eventually lose, or you could just give up this stupid and reckless battle of yers before you take it too far.” Spinning the weapon around in his hand, he was glad to see he hadn’t lost his talent with the blade. “Yer sisters can handle themselves, whereas you’d do well to stay out of my way.”
vk-harry:
“And what legacy are you referring to Captain? The one where you can’t defeat children or where you can’t defeat animals?” Was Harry being reckless, absolutely, but no one made him more upset and more like a wounded animal like his father. And hurt Harry very rarely made good decisions. “Am I supposed to be scared of you dad? I know yours as well you old pirate.” He was scared of what his father would do to others, but not to himself, his voice a growl as he continued. “Swear on your good hand you’ll actually intend on leaving them alone.” He didn’t trust his father’s word, but if he broke it Harry would have no issue cutting that hand off too.
Slamming his bottle to the floor, he didn’t even flinch as it smashed on the dock. He remained steady and slightly terrifying as he took a close to his son. “I told you boy. Watch yer mouth around me. You would do well to be scared, son. Yer a child still. And as we know, I have no qualms against fighting them.” It wasn’t exactly hardd to get a reaction out of the captain, but most of his crew tried to avoid it where possible. Many of his crew were also missing limbs, due to snide comments that came about his own hand. “I don’t owe you anything. If I see them I see them, if I don’t I don’t. But you shouldn’t be surprised if they come seeking out daddy dearest.”
vk-harry:
“Like you’ve done anything in the past twenty years to carry on your own legacy besides drink and abuse your kids.” Harry looked at the man and rolled his eyes, tired of all his failings being thrown at him. “Gained it? Yes, because that’s what getting your hand bit off was, a win. And when was the last time you hung out with ole Tik Tok, hm? Oh wait, you’re scared of the big croc.” Harry’s gaze hardened, his expression darkening and his hand tensed on the hilt of his blade, ready to try and convince the pirate to stay away from Harriet and CJ. “It’s not a small place, it’s rather large, and no one has ever accused James Hook of being polite. Leave them alone.”
“I had kids so that I didn’t have to carry on my legacy. I just didn’t realise that they’d turn out as pathetic as you.” The mention of alcohol reminded the captain of the bottle that he kept stashed in his jacket pocket. Maybe the boy wasn’t completely hopeless. It was probably lucky for the kid that he had decided to drink his rum at that moment. Despite his age, Hook was always gunning for a fight. “You watch yer mouth with me laddie. I know yer weaknesses.” He raised his hook as a threat, seeing as he couldn’t grab his own sword as his only hand was tightly gripping his rum. “Like I said, I’ll try, but fate works in peculiar ways son. That’s why I’m here right now.”
vclicnt:
“well i do, when i needed his help he was there for me. even though a few months before he tried to kill my fiance with uma.” mal had really tried to have a good relationship with the sea thieves three since they helped her take down audrey when mal didn’t have her magic to do it. “yeah, sometimes i forget to.” there were times when mal got too into her school work and forgot about all her responsibilities of being the future queen. “i’d never forget about anyone from the isle. it’s a part of me, and something i’d never want anyone to take from me. and something i want everyone to see as a dark history of auradon before we could try to work together to live and just locked away people who were seen as dangerous without giving them chances and just forgetting about them.”
Hook had seen all the news on what his boy had been up too. Yet he seemed to be a secondary player. A sidekick to that Uma girl, with had never sat right with the pirate. He was a leader, and he had always expected his children to follow in his path. Now they all just seemed happy living their mundane little lives, whereas the captain himself would never settle for anything less than full power. “How long where you at Auradon before all my kids were brought over? If I’m right it’s three years. I don’t care about me, but for those four years you waited to close the barrier everyone of those poor children could have been living the dream you already had.” In reality he couldn’t give a rat’s arse about the brats from the isle, but he wasn’t going to miss out on a prime opportunity at messing with the queen-to-be’s head.
vclicnt:
“well you know, last time i checked sweethearts weren’t on the isle unless they were the kids. so i think i would believe you telling me you turn into a croc before i believe you are a sweetheart.” the blonde crossed her arms. for the most part maddie tried to be kind to everyone, but after talking to cj and harry it was just hard to be kind to a man who did everything in his power to hurt his own children.
“That’s just what yer parents tell you girl. In fact a lot of us adults are sweet as pie, just slander has caused you young ‘uns to think different.” He knew he probably wasn’t going to get far with the girl, especially if his children had talked about him, but he would be damned if he wasn’t going to try. “I’m just a man who wanted the best for his kids in a place where they would have to grow up tough. You can blame your parents for that.”
vk-harry:
Harry didn’t even glance at the hook, giving the man a shrug. “A flaw I’ll always carry it seems. Wanting to please a man who’s impossible to please. You may’ve hated us, but I’ll always bear your name. Might as well fit the stereotype.” The pirate was again surprised how how much Hook’s words hurt him, actually pretty good at fighting with the hook despite not needing it. “Yeah, well I tried to get the croc to eat my hand too, but I apparently wasn’t as tasty.” He hadn’t ever told Hook that fact, but now didn’t see that he had anything to lose. His father already thought him worthless. “They can, and I’m sure ultimately they will, but no. They didn’t send me. I was actually told not to be here, but as the weakest of the three and the brother I figured I’d try to do something useful. Leave them alone. They have lives, they’re strong, and you would likely be almost proud, if your capable of it. But you are a shadow they don’t need in their lives and I’m willing to do anything I can to ensure you don’t ruin everything.”
“Maybe you should just drop the name, goodness knows you’ve done bugger all to carry on my legacy.” Hook had always held his son to a high standard, he had pretty much thrust a sword into his hands before he could walk. There was no wonder he couldn’t live up to his high expectations, but that didn’t stop the pirate from deflecting the blame. There was not a world in which he could imagine him being at fault for his children’s shortcomings, the mere thought was enough to offend him. “See, you couldn’t even get a croc to take a bit out of you. That isn’t even a challenge. I didn’t even try and I gained it” Only the captain could make losing his hand sound like a victory, despite the fact it was probably his biggest failure in his eyes. Other than his children of course. Hook knew that trying to get Harry on his side was a lost cause, much like the boy himself. But he held out a glimmer of hope for his two daughters, still believing that they cared enough to prove themselves to him. “I guess I can try, but it’s a small place laddie, who is to stop me bumping into them. It’d be rude to ignore them, and we both know I’m nothing if not polite.”
