People would have probably found it hard to believe, but as a young lad Hook had actually attended university before he was whisked away to Neverland. He wasn’t the model student, but really did anyone expect any less from the pirate? He exceeded expectations in the extracurricular activities, although it was fair to say that they weren’t exactly above board. Again, not a huge surprise. He planted himself on the chair, his feet resting on the table. It wasn’t hard for the man to take control of the room, he was a legend, if he did say so myself. “I have to admin Harriet, this has been my best welcome yet.”

The question brought a small smile to his lips, he knew that although he had managed to avoid trouble with his eldest until now, which was impressive with his track record, the upcoming conversation was bound to start some controversy. “Well that’s the thing lass, a pirate needs a crew. I may have lost a few members since we’ve been apart, but I’m looking at your set up here, and I’m sure they’d prefer to work for someone with more… experience.”

Harriet’s nose wrinkled a bit as the Captain’s feet went up on the white clothed table and she took her tea cup up into her hands, both cup and saucer to continue sipping as if his presence didn’t bother her at all.  “Best welcome?  Did the rest of your offspring already say their hellos then?  I can only wonder how that went...” she answered softly, though inward she felt her stomach turning at the thought of either CJ or Harry within the Captain’s reach. 

The statement about her crew instantly drew silence in the room, though admittedly it had been growing more and more quiet as the two Hooks had sat down.  But now you could hear a pin drop.  “Experience with what, may I ask?” Harriet asked, her tone even as she rested the teacup and saucer back on the table.  “MY crew already has a Captain Hook.  Perhaps, if your crew is leaving you should consider retiring as well.  I’ve heard East Agrabah has some lovely retirement communities for people your age.  And they assist with handicaps.” 

Despite the brave words and attitude of confidence of calling the pirates in her employ HER crew there was another, larger knot in her stomach forming as she watched out of the corner of her eye as members of her crew started whispering among each other and looking to her father with... respect.

Harriet was silent a moment at the thought of her siblings with her father wandering around.  Shaking her head finally to get it out of her mind she started checking the colors of streamers available.  “Mr. Smee deserves a nice retirement... not that I’d ever expect the Captain to have given him any retirement benefit past what your dad could put aside himself.  Though I’d imagine seventeenth century doubloons are worth a lot now a days.  The Neverland layover should be good for something at least.” 

Sighing she looked at her pad, then the stock.  “...how do we run out of blue streamers?  Honestly?  What, did Chad Charming eat them or something?”

Harriet froze as she heard the voice ring out across the hall, but by the time her face had turned up from her tea there was a pleasant, polite smile on her lips as she stood.  “Well, its not Eton College that we’ve come to but you can’t begrudge a captain or her crew the chance at an education, can you?”  She moved a hand towards her table.  “Let’s make a spot for the dear Captain, shall w-” By the time she’d finished speaking there was already an extra chair at the table in the middle of the hall, and an extra cup.  Harriet should have taken it as a sign of exactly how entranced her crew was already with the presence of Captain Jas Hook but she was busy concentrating on her father. 

“To what do I owe the pleasure, Captain?  You’ve come quite a way just for a visit...”  She motioned politely with her hand to the table for him to take a seat with her.  “I thought you’d be taking to the ocean, what with being fresh off the island.”

“Pretty much... and if they aren’t they’ll try to make you believe they are...” Harriet answered off hand as she picked back up her Aura-bucks cup and took another sip.  “But if they’re willing to pay you like royalty would, well, they can keep calling themselves whatever they’d like, I suppose.” 

Harriet leaned against a nearby wall.  “Oh rags can be a marvelous look in the right hand... I just tend to do better with fresh materials.  We don’t all have the same still as you do, Iggy.  Or Dizzy either for that matter.  I did miss having her available to do my hair for the two years I was still on the isle...”

“fencing practice…” iggy repeated back slowly to her. he scoffed slightly and then smiled. “only you.” he couldn’t imagine doing that. he wasn’t much of a fighter. not even back in the isle. he used words to cut others, not his fists or anything else. he didn’t fight people much though, he wanted everyone to be happy. sure he could be sassy sometimes, but that was usually just when he was in a bad mood. “see, some people don’t know that. it’s horrible,” he laughed. with a smile he nodded. “it’s no problem. it’s my goal in life to make sure the isle kids keep in style here. no more dirty ripped clothes.”

“Well of course fencing practice... what else would you expect such a fashionable pirate captain to do, practice in rags?” Harriet asked with a roll of her eyes.  “You don’t get good at fighting in three inch heels and lovely outfits by trying it in yoga pants and sneakers.”   She chuckled at the comments of the Tremaine, as she prided herself on a level of elegance in her appearance, even back on the isle and Iggy seemed to understand that better than most.  “I know... no more taking four or five time over hand-me-downs and turning them into something wearable... oh Iggy you should SEE my closet back at the dorms.  It is amazing.”

Pausing she looked to him with a smile.  “Have you designed anything since coming off the island?  I would so love to see...”

“look- holes can be cute in clothes, they really can… but that?” iggy said, pointing to the others shirt where there was a little hole. “it’s out of place. not cute. jeans with holes in them…. cute. shirts with holes in them… please tell me you didn’t buy it this way,” iggy said as he walked with the other. he had an appreciation for clothes, especially after getting off the isle. it pained him to see people making the worst fashion mistakes.

“Hmmm?” Harriet asked casually as she sipped on her Auraun-Bucks cup and looked down at her sleeve, swallowing hard and gasping as she spied the unsightly hole in the sleeve of her blouse in her classic lolita outfit.  “Ooh!  Blast, I must have had that happen during fencing practice... how unsightly.”  Pausing to place her cup on a nearby surface she tucked the offending piece into the rest of the flowy sleeve, trying to hide it.  “Of course I didn’t buy it that way... no one buys separates with holes in them, at least not blouses.  Thank you, Iggy, you are, as always, a god send.”

Captain and Crew

Harriet Hook sat calmly with legs crossed in her seat next to a table in the middle of the event hall of the University as she watched her crew setting up streamers and signs, chairs and tables, and sipping on a cup of tea from a large pot in the center of the table. 

“The right side is crooked...” she called to the pair of pirates on two ladders hanging the ‘Welcome Show Choir Alumni Class of 1984′ sign over the stage.  “A little higher... higher... higher... there we go!” 

Taking another sip she smiled to herself.  Sure, she had to do the planning of these events as a condition of her ‘rehabilitation grant’ through the Kingdom of Audadon, but she was sure that part of the reason she’d gotten it was because she could easily call on a crew to help take care of the grunt work.

“We’ll have to stop by with a house warming gift sometime in the future…” Harriet answered without an ounce of sarcasm.  She thought very highly of her father’s first mate and wouldn’t tolerate anyone speaking ill of the man.  “After everything we’ve been through as a crew I should hope so.  I’m hoping it won’t have to come down to Jas or Me.  Perhaps there can be a bit of… professional courtesy.  I’ll have my crew, he’ll have his… as long as he leaves CJ and Harry alone I’m more than willing to let him be.” 

“I’ll make sure to write up some directions to his place.”  Sammy tried not to be with his family around others, not even Harriet since his father and siblings were the only people to make him soft.  He was gentler and almost sweet with the lot of them, and he needed to be a strong, capable first mate.  Harriet could get him gentler when she needed it, but it took pushing.   “The crew will have no issue between working with you or your father.  You’ve led them all well.  But I suppose we’ll have to see what the future holds.  I’m sure CJ will have no issue.”  Harry was another story, but just because Sammy knew Harry was an idiot.

The awkward pause from Harriet as she waited for Sammy to at least try to assure her that her brother would also be safe hung in the air before Harriet coughed to clear the moment.  “Of course.” she answered, putting the clipboard into a bag at her side, trying to wipe from her mind Harry’s cryptic visit to her room only the night before.  “I’m sure... they’ll be fine.”  Heels clacked on the ground as she started to move towards the storage room to check on supplies.  She could ask the crew to do such things but she was expected to do at least a bit of the work herself - she didn’t want to wreck the grant that was paying for her placement in this university.   “Your father... do you think he’ll have retired now that he has a home and the twins to still care for?  Left that whole pirate life behind him?”

sammy-smee‌:

Sammy gave her a slight smile before nodding back towards the isle.  “Dad and the little ones found a place by the water to settle.  I’m sure he’d love to see you.  As for yours.  He’s trouble, but nothing you’ve not dealt with before.”  He studied her as she wrote, worried for her but also knowing he thought better of her father than she did.  “I doubt that, but maybe.  Either way, between us and the rest of the crew, we’ll be fine.’

Sammy smirked at the idea, commenting lightly.  “In another life maybe.  Hook and Smee, famous musical composers.”  It made him laugh to think about, the young man shrugging.  “Poorly written maybe, but wholly enjoyable.  Alas, that’s not what this situation will bring to Auradon, but it’ll be interesting to observe.”  He met her eyes, giving the woman a smile. “Nothing for us to worry too much over I think.”

“MMmmm.” Harriet answered in a non committal sound, scratching another note on her pad.  “For you, maybe.  Actually I’ll be quite glad to see YOUR Pa, he’s always been a good fellow... always knew how to fix my petticoats when I got them ripped fencing... but I wouldn’t rest on Jas Hook.  Even at his advanced age... Mmmm...”  Another note on the pad, as if she wasn’t concerned.  “Hopefully he’ll take to the open waters, forget about Auradon for a few years.”

sammy-smee‌:

“That’s fair.”  He smirked back at his captain till she was distracted again by her work, the first mate leaning casually against a wall and staying alert as always.  Auradon had proven safer than the Isle, but he was still rather serious about watching Harriet’s back.  “I can see it now.  Your father doing a solo on the deck of his ship while mine leads the rest of the crew in a dance number.  It’ll be a hit and no bad things will happen at all.”

“As funny as it is to say...” Harriet answered softly, as she marked something on her checklist.  “...I could imagine my father dancing and singing... supposedly he’s quite skilled with music when he cares to be.  He also plays the harpsichord... between him and your father I could actually imagine them doing something musical but without anything bad happening?  Now that's just poppycock.”   Her nose wrinkled and she looked up, the uninked end of the pen touching her chin.  “Sounds like the end of a poorly written musical if you ask me...”

“Seems things are actually going to get a little interesting around here.  Letting all the villains hang out?  Definitely going to be a party of some sort.’

Harriet looked up at Smee with a small smirk.  “What else would you expect when you stick a bunch of villains in a concentration camp without magic and then suddenly set them all free?” she asked calmly, turning her eyes back to a checklist of decorations for some event the college was holding for the... show choir?  Something like that.  “I’m sure everyone will just sing, dance and no form of revenge will be sought after at all.”  The sarcasm in her tone was a little thick.
