                             THE POTTERS: THE LAST ENEMY TO BE DESTROYED IS DEATH.

001. Euphemia and Fleamont Potter were kindhearted people, born from pureblood families. She was well educated and predominantly wrote children’s books, and he was the entrepreneur and owner of ‘sleekeazy’s hair potions’. They first met while at Hogwarts ( she was a Hufflepuff, he was a Gryffindor ), but never exchanged more than pleasantries ---- it would take another couple of years for all the pieces to fall into place.         They met again at a party in 1928 ( she was 20, he was 25 ). Euphemia had already released three novels (and taken several courses at a prestigious muggle university), and the Daily Prophet was running front page stories about the hair potion that was revolutionizing beauty across the world (and of course, praising the empire that a kid from England had built from the ground up). That night, they had a little too much to drink, and clumsily hooked up in a broom closet. They wouldn’t see each other again for another three years.

         In 1931, business had slowed down for Fleamont. In the wake of the Great Depression, people weren’t as keen on paying for hair care. Euphemia’s career on the other hand had properly taken off --- her sweet and optimistic novels were adored and sold like hotcakes. The same year, fate threw them together yet again, this time in a feature article for Witch Weekly. In a joined interview, both were a bit flustered to see each other again ( remembering the last time they had been in the same room ), and exchanged playful quips throughout the interview ( which would spark rumors about a budding romance ). This time, they’d see each other again the very next day, over coffee.

           They began dating a few weeks later, and by 1935, they were married. Business eventually picked up again for Fleamont, and Euphemia continued writing books. They lived a comfortable life, and all was well --- except they could not bear children. By 1940, they stopped trying ( besides, they were not keen on the idea of bringing a child into the world during times of war ).                      Outsiders would call them an odd pair. He had a knack for business, but also for getting into trouble ( and would have done just as well in Slytherin as in Gryffindor ), and could never back down from a fight. Euphemia on the other hand was soft spoken and optimistic, but somewhat reserved. They were also very much in love.

        Eventually, on a Monday morning in 1959, Euphemia discovered that she was pregnant. At this point, she was fifty one years old, and had given up hope on having children of her own long ago. Fleamont ended up retiring early ( at the age of fifty six ), and sold his business for a vast profit, ensuring that his child was set for life.

         On March 27, 1960, James Fleamont Potter was born, and he was considered a miracle child as soon as he took his first breath.

002. He grew up on the coast of England ( close to Norfolk ), in a rather large but cozy house by the water. Since his parents were a little bit older, they had a house elf that helped with all the things around the house that his parents were too exhausted to do. The elf was always treated fairly ( neither Euphemia or Fleamont were mean spirited, nor did they look down on anyone else ).

003. James’s childhood was a happy one, and he had a good relationship with both his parents. His father retired before his birth, and came to spend much time with his son. Euphemia continued writing, but she worked from home, and was also always around. Because he was a miracle child, and had been longed for so long, he was spoiled rotten, and constantly doted upon. In the eyes of his parents, James could do no wrong ( so he got away with... a lot ).

       He never met his grandparents, as they all died before James was born.

004. Once James started his education at Hogwarts, he found a second family. The marauders became his brothers in all ways but blood. Over the summers, they were invited to the Potter house, and were allowed to stay however long they liked. The Potters welcomed any friend of James’s with open arms, and certainly had the space and money to accommodate four teenage boys ( however draining ).

005. Eventually, Sirius Black was adopted into the family, and became the second son of Euphemia and Fleamont. And it only seemed fitting that Sirius would find a home with the Potters, because over the years, James had found a home in him. 

006. During his fifth year at the school, James fell hard for Lily Evans, and would spend the next two years pining after her. Eventually, in December 1977 (once James was headboy, and no longer an arrogant brat), they started dating. On New Year’s Eve the following year (1978), James proposed, and they moved in together in March (1979), sharing a small flat in Muggle London. James married the love of his life on November 1st, 1979. The next day, they moved into Godric’s Hollow, a small house that Euphemia and Fleamont had acquired when they were younger, and gifted to the young couple as a wedding present. 

007. Just a month after his wedding, Euphemia and Fleamont both passed away in dragonpox, leaving James devastated. A week later, he found out that he was going to be a father, but his parents won’t be alive to see it ( but you best believe that James is going to keep their memory alive ).

008. James takes being a father very seriously, and wants to do the best job that he can. The house has already been babyproofed ( all the kitchen drawers are practically impossible to open now ), and he has already read a few books on how to be the Best Dad. Mostly, James just wants to do as good a job as his parents did for him, and he doesn’t want to let his future kid down by not being prepared. Though he’s scared shitless, he takes solace in the knowledge that Lily will be there with him. There’s no one he’d rather spend the rest of his days with, and there’s no one he’d rather figure out the ups and downs of parenting with.

009. There are a lot of other people that James consider to be family too. After his parents died, Alastor Moody became a father figure of sorts, helping him through the grief and pain.

        music is playing softly from the radio as james puts away the last of the dishes, leaving the potter kitchen in pristine condition. his heart is beating a little faster than usual, a nervous smile on his lips as he turns around to meet his best friend’s gaze. he has something on his mind, but there’s really no reason to be nervous... but what he wants to ask sirius is important enough to make his heart flutter. a hand is placed behind his neck, and he crosses his feet in front of him, leaning against the kitchen counter. “you know,” he starts, nervous smile becoming crooked, and a hand is dragged through his hair. “been meaning to ask you for a while now...” he pauses, and catches himself feeling a bit silly ---- sirius has been with him through everything. there’s nothing he can’t ask of the man. “we’d like you to be the godfather.”

                                    It's a difficult career path... they only take the best.

001. James grew up during times of war. He was NINE years old when it first started ( not even old enough to go to school ), and the fighting continued throughout his years at Hogwarts. Recruitment posters to join the aurors were handed out during his fifth year ( but he was also warned that only the best of the best could join their ranks, and it was subtly implied that he was just... not). Truth be told, the idea of joining the fight against evil had been planted much earlier --- as children, they’d hear tales of the BRAVERY of the heroes that kept them safe, and James looked up to that. One day, he wanted to be one of the protectors.

002. After graduating with top marks from Hogwarts, James sent in an application to the auror’s office, and was called to an interview. After sitting through countless character and aptitude tests, he was allowed to start training ( but was once again warned that the WEAK drop out early ). The first year was tough --- six days a week of being pushed to his absolute limits in a number of DIFFICULT classes. And he hadn’t yet seen a day of field work.

003. He is now in his second year of training, and the pressure isn’t easing up. Three days a week are spent in the auror’s office, learning from experienced aurors, shadowing them on their work days. The remaining two days consist of classes ( concealment and disguise, stealth and tracking, poisons and antidotes to name a few ). There is also a great deal of physical training required, since aurors are supposed to be in top shape. 

004. First day of working at the auror’s office had been gut wrenching, even though he knew most of the people working there from the Order already. He’s eager to prove himself ( and will, occasionally, trip over himself while doing so ).

005. Since he is a trainee, he gets stuck with a lot of the smaller cases that the senior aurors would rather not work. Still, James invests his ENTIRE heart and soul into solving them ( and gets ridiculously excited when he does ). If there’s a crook out there that stole your handbag or hexed your cat, you want James Potter on the case. 

006. James has his own desk, but he shares it with another trainee that works on the days that he doesn’t work. The two of them have never met, but James isn’t a fan. She leaves coffee stains on his papers, takes his favorite quills, forgets to refill the ink bottle, bewitches the chair so that it’s at the wrong height, overwaters his plants, gets cookie crumbs all over the work area.... The list goes on. But surely James does equally as much to annoy her ( he just isn’t aware of it  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).

007. Has some issues with sitting still, and strolls around the office a lot, checking out what other aurors are doing at their desks and randomly showing up at people’s offices and hanging out for a while. He does still get all his work done, but he’s not... the most focused when in the office. People will also randomly find him sitting at their desks, chatting their deskmate up. It’s normal.

008. James does not have his own office, since he is still a trainee. Instead, his desk is located in a larger area where all of the lower level aurors have their desks. Honestly, James appreciates not having to sit closed up in a box all day, and enjoys the freedom of being able to move around (as well as the company of other people).

009. His desk is located in the middle of the room, and he has two desk mates  ( I imagine them sitting in an ‘the office’ like fashion, like Jim, Pam and Dwight sit ). The desk itself is kept fairly organized. There’s a small plant sitting dangerously close to the edge, a number of quills in a coffee cup, usually some assorted random files ( that he is currently going through ), a framed photograph of him and Lily, as well as a framed photograph of the marauders. He also has a coffee cup with a stag and a doe printed on it.

010. Can get a little competitive about solving cases and probably has a bet going with one of the other trainees on who can solve the most cases first (#wanted connection). Really though, he just wants to help people.

011. Takes the floo network to work ( though would much rather fly ), but will occasionally also apparate, depending on if he’s in a rush or not. 

012. As a trainee, James earns a bit of money, but not nearly as much as a fully trained auror. He’s mainly living off his family fortune.

013. Alternates between bringing his own lunch ( usually left overs ), but also goes out to eat a lot. It kinda depends on what kind of day/morning he’s having, if anyone else wants to go out, if they’re out on a mission etc.

014. James takes his training very seriously. He’s out running early in the morning several days a week, and also plays a bit of quidditch to keep himself in shape. A lot of time is also spent with his nose in a book, studying to get the best marks possible.

“I appreciate the interest, but I’m fine alone.” Kingsley told the person walking next to him as he strode down a sidewalk of Muggle London with a coffee clasped in one hand, his other shoved into his pocket with his wand resting casually between his fingers. “This isn’t an easy get-in get-out sort of deal. Not this time. It’s better if it’s just me.” He reasoned, taking a causal sip from his cup though his eyes were constantly roving the space around them as if expecting to be attacked at any moment- something that wasn’t too unlikely in all honesty.

       "okay, all right,” james says and shrugs, but he still continues to saunter after the older auror, a half smile playing on his lips. " you know i’ve been assigned to you today, right?” he asks casually, a hand running through his hair as he glances in kingsley’s direction, slight worry flickering in his eyes. he doesn’t want to miss out on the action. “can’t bench me now, kingsley! s’pposed to shadow you, and all that.” he lowers his voice so that only kingsley can hear. “besides, we’ve done worse with the order before.”
