Okay, okay. She was ready. Moving toward the doors, Clary pulled the doors open. A smile tugged on the corners of her mouth when she saw him, a jittery feeling of happiness fluttering within her chest. He sure was something. And it had very little to do with his beauty. Not that he wasn’t most beautiful man Clary had ever seen. “Hey.” Sliding through the crack, she let the doors close after her.

“All ready.” Motioning with her hands ( slightly flaily movements, true ), the redhead insinuated for him to lead the way. “I am guessing I am not supposed to ask what you have planned, right?” He was fairly sure Jace could be rather secretive when he wanted to be.

Jace grinned at the sight of her. Clary was always beautiful, but he could tell that she had tried her best to look nice for this date even though he’d told her she could dress comfortable. He much preferred the idea over a comfortable date rather than one where they weren’t. “You look wonderful,” Jace complimented as he started taking the lead.

He shook his head as he offered his hand out to her. “Nope. You’ll find out soon enough.” They soon happened upon Magnus and he thanked him for opening the portal for them both. “I’ll text you when we need the portal home,” Jace said with another thanks before saying to Clary, “This way, before he changes his mind.” That last bit was mostly teasing toward Magnus, but he knew that the warlock could do such a thing should he choose to do so. Once Clary’s hand was firmly in his own, he tugged her gently through the portal with him.

“It would be fine if you asked her, my sister and I don’t exactly have a good relationship. I know you’re madly in love with her but you should think twice if you think you’re going to make out all over every surface of this apartment.”

“Well if you tried working on it, things might be better between you too. Madly in love with her? When did you get that idea?” Jace scoffed, pretending that it wasn’t true. It was quite true, but he didn’t want him to use his feelings for Clary against him. “Don’t worry, that’s not likely to happen. But fine, I’ll go ask her. Though you owe me for not being able to do it yourself.”

Calla wrinkled her nose. “Why does the Queen have to want something? I get to want things, too.” She rocked up onto the balls of her feet and back down, something she often did to avoid standing still for too long. “How are you?“ She needed a distraction, and drowning herself in someone else’s problems seemed as good an idea as any.

“Perhaps. Wanting something of a Shadowhunter? That’s not very common among your kind.” After the situation with Kaelie, Jace wasn’t so sure he could trust the Seelie’s anymore. He wanted to, but she’d nearly killed someone he cared about. He couldn’t allow that to happen again. Jace was surprised when she asked how he was and it showed on his face before he replied, “I’m good. Fine, really. How are you? Is everything going alright in the Court now?” He hoped that there wasn’t anymore talk of war, though knowing the Queen, there might be.

“Seriously? What happened to you guys being different? I thought you were tight with a bunch of Downworlders?” The wolf growled, fists clenched by his sides. Losing his temper would do him no favors here. Stepping up to the Shadowhunter, Nick looked the blonde dead in the eye. “If you think Morgenstern’s body is going to keep the Downworld happy, you’re wrong.”

“So you expect me to right away help you just because you heard we’re cool with some Downworlders?” Jace raised an eyebrow. He didn’t want another Hunter’s Moon situation to happen, though judging by that growl, he had a feeling it might. “What do you want me to do about it?” Jace snapped back. “I’m not the Clave. I’m not the Head of the Institute. Go talk to one of them.” He gave him a challenging look, as if daring him to try to hit him. Today was not a good day and he would attack back if he had to.

“What’s your point? I did my part. Izzy is doing staff today, and I am doing long sword tomorrow.” They split it pretty fairly, if you asked Alexander. He waited for a few seconds, before prodding at the keys again– slightly gentler this time. It still came out horribly. “ Wanna go grab some food at Taki’s? I am starving, and Izzy said she’ll cook when she’s done with the recruits.”

“It sounds like you’ve got another busy day ahead of you. Shouldn’t you be resting instead of being in here?” Jace wasn’t complaining, not really, but he hadn’t expected anyone to join him. He wrinkled his nose as Alec pressed a key again. “You need some practice,” he told him. Food. When was the last time he’d eaten? Between avoiding sleep and keeping himself busy, Jace wasn’t exactly taking the best care of himself right now. He could do with a good meal thought. “Taki’s sounds great. Let’s go before she tries to force us into the kitchen with her. “
