thats what they say, but they enforce this by shooting ships that come through there, so every major shipping company in the 'west' wont go through there. From what I understand, the 3 largest shipping companies have all decided to just avoid the place, so this isnt really targeted against Specifically Israel at all

Yemen explicitly said it is specifically against Israel, in solidarity with the Palestinian people against the genocide, and to support Iran after Israel kept bombing it. The decision is on the western companies, they weren't being targeted but they decided to feel threatened. Of course none of us here think its awesome awesome shipping delays happen, but honestly this is one of the least violent and least lethal ways they could've pushed back against the genocidal aggression, it is one of the most peaceful options. They aren't even stopping shipping the routes will just take longer. People support it because one of the few countries on earth is seriously pushing back against a genocide and Israel bombing other countries and this is far less violent than what Israel has been doing

Keep in mind that this came right after Israel imposed a blockade on any humanitarian aid going to Gaza as well as the fact that Iran had repeatedly warned Israel NOT TO BOMB BEIRUT as part of the ceasefire agreement or they'd respond.

i truly think that this recent trend of “if you relate to a post about a different identity than your own you are ~derailing~ and taking over the conversation” is incredibly harmful.

i recently experienced some pretty severe transphobic abuse in my workplace (children’s home) that included having food thrown at me, being called slurs, being told i was a pervert because i am trans. one of the managers talked with me afterwards and shared that he had had a similar experience as an Asian man. this wasn’t him derailing my experience, or talking over me, or making things about himself. he was communicating “hey, i know how it feels and how much it sucks. you’re not alone.”

THAT is what solidarity IS. i don’t know what it’s like to be Asian, he doesnt know what it’s like to be trans, but we both had a similar experience and we were able to turn a horrible experience into an opportunity for bonding and comfort.

stop looking at people’s attempts as solidarity as an attack. and hey, you never know - you could find an opportunity to grow closer to other people.

A character trait/dynamic that I'm endlessly compelled by is someone dealing with (or, like, failing to) being the child of people who were too busy being good people to have the time and attention to be good parents. This can be anywhere from 'was a public defender who gave a shit working 60 hour weeks with basically no vacations' to 'left their family behind to join the revolution/war effort and is now a universally beloved martyr-hero who saved/remade the world with their final breath' on the groundedness spectrum. The important thing is a viscerally felt but confused and ugly mess of longing, resentment, and guilt about feeling the resentment.

The older I get the more I realize that actually a lot of the time in media the insistence that a relationship between two fictional characters is actually just a deep complicated friendship was NOT bullshit/cope in the face of shipper accusations. Because I keep finding myself in deep and beautiful but complex friendships and I realize now that once you meet your romantic life partner the world of these long term profound friendships sort of presents itself to you & there's way more there than I ever thought possible...Like it IS sort of the number one form of new relationship you face in your adult life. At a poetry reading the other day one of the readers was talking about this and about how much interprojection and like, keeping pace of life and seeing your friends as an extension of yourself happens in later life. And it had me like...wow
