I finally bit the bullet and decided to make a Tumblr to document all my writing projects because
I love talking about my silly little stories
I need a place where I can just scream into the void and i don't think any other social media site allows me the full freedom to do that
So, hi!
About Me
I'm Sahra and/or sj (whichever you prefer really)
19
Somali-American
Full time stem student, part time creative
I spend my free time writing my silly little stories
Goals w/ Blog
To be completely honest I just want to get comfortable sharing my work with people
I also have a tendency to start social media pages for my writing (twitter and insta to name a few) and then completely abandon the page bc I get overwhelmed and my anxiety gets the better of me
My Writing/Reading
I enjoy reading most if not all genres and age categories (yes even the occasional history and self help books) but I tend to write fantasy/litfic
However, horror, mystery, thriller/suspense, romance, and sci-fi are also genres I frequently enjoy
I tend to gravitate more towards the upper YA and adult spheres (18+) but I dabble in younger YA and middle grade from time to time.
I write fanfic from time to time but the one time I posted it, I almost had a breakdown so maybe when I get better at sharing my work I can make a blog specific to that
I have a lot of WIPs, like, A LOT and new ideas come to me all the time (I have a very hard time sticking to projects bc of how many ideas I get daily)
I hate sharing my work so much, like it actually physically pains me to do so
BUT I’ll push through the cringe and share 2 for now
My WIPs
REFRACTED SUNLIGHT
Genre: Adult Litfic (for now lmao)
POV: Alternates between dual third person limited and third person omniscient
CW: Suicide, death, description of dead bodies, eating disorders, self harm, hallucinations
Inspired by: A short story I wrote last year titled Poppy Seeds
Vibes: Breath against a window pane, digging nails into your forearms, a foreign feeling inside your own body, tragedies during a sunny day, nosebleeds, the slow build of a guttural scream, sunlight warming your skin, SUN SHOWERS, "till death reunites us"
Status: Writing vague snippets and calling that outlining
Tags: rfsunlight, wip: refracted sunlight
HOLD ME BEFORE THE SUN SETS
Genre: High/historical Adult Fantasy
POV: Dual third person
CW: Blood, death, colonialism, war
Inspired by: My want to write a story about sisterhood, the emotional toll of mother-daughter relationships, the weight of responsibility thrust upon young girls in Somali culture, and themes of identity, nationalism, sacrifice, but also I wanted an excuse to write the story of my heart (because while it does cover all of those big topics, I'm not really here for the plot, I'm here for the characters and vibes)
Vibes: A sudden ocean breeze cooling your sweat, aunties negotiating prices, whispered gossip around market stalls, indents on your skin from lying on straw mats, mothers braiding a daughters hair, kissing tea sticky cheeks, feigned ignorance, stolen culture, tear tracks down bloody cheeks
Status: Drafting (~10k)

(I've been sitting on this post for a week now because I'm anxious, but I have to post it now before I change my mind forever idc if it's imperfect and no one will probably see this… right?)
Anyways, that's all for now.
P.s. I’m not sure of all the tumblr etiquette yet, so any advice would be helpful! My asks are always open and if you want to ever reach out via DM, feel free!
someone on twitter is trying to claim that use of an em-dash is an indication of AI-generated writing because it’s “relatively rare” for actual humans to use it. skill issue
sorry that i ended two consecutive messages with "lmao." i don't know why i did that. it looks really dumb doesn't it. i'll edit one to get rid of it. you can end my stupid pathetic life if you want
"How do you write such realistic dialogue-" I TALK TO MYSELF. I TALK TO MYSELF AND I PRETEND I AM THE ONE SAYING THE LINE. LIKE SANITY IS SLOWLY SLIPPING FROM BETWEEN MY FINGERS WITH EVERY MEASLY WORD THEY TYPE OUT. THAT IS HOW.
