I’ve noticed some confusion about yesterday’s party while queuing stuff for this blog, so I’ll explain how it worked.
Last week, Movistar+ sent DMs to fans on twitter and instagram, and asked them where they live. People who live in Madrid were invited to yesterday’s party.
That’s right. Movistar+ and the cast and crew of Skam España reenacted the party in real time for fans and some entertainment outlets.
The clips, posts and ig stories were prerecorded last fall,
whereas the twitter and instagram lives were, in fact, live.
Before we went live, directors Begoña Álvarez and Tapi Ayerra told the fans in attendance that we could go up to the actors and talk to them, but we had to call them by their characters’ names and they would in turn reply as their characters. We could take pictures and video and talk about the event on our twitter/instagram accounts.
I didn’t do any of that because I prefer to keep a barrier between myself and the show, but other than that, being at the live event was like being part of Skam España itself. As people on the tag have noticed, the team timed everything so that it would happen on the live event exactly as it did on the show. Jorge, Hugo and Nora said their lines in real time as they did in the clips. Eva picked up her phone right before she went live on instagram. Hugo came onstage to rap right when the clip dropped, etc.
The biggest differences between the clips and the live event were these:
Nora sang three songs. bad guy by billie eilish, Can’t Help Falling in Love and God is a Woman by Ariana Grande.
Hugo rapped for longer, and he did verses about Eva (he also made a pun with Eva’s actress Alba’s name), Amira, Nora and Viri.
Jorge DJed the rest of the time.
I haven’t seen any pic from the event, but I could see the characters posing with and talking to fans in character.
Amira and Viri went around and “saved” people’s phone numbers to add them to the Mallorca whatsapp chat.
Nora would pose for fans and Miquel would creep up behind her and photobomb the selfies.
Cris and Rubén also took a bunch of pictures with fans, Cris was one of, if not the most, popular character at the party.
The live event lasted about an hour, and at the end the cast thanked the fandom, now out of character. Hajar, Celia and Gonzalo were really grateful for the support and for making this event successful. Alejandro and Nicole asked fans to keep coming up with theories. They read everything and enjoy it. Nicole asked Álex Villazán to say a few words, and he said the team and fandom has treated him really well. Finally, Alba asked Begoña and Tapi to say a few words. Begoña begged off because she was on crutches because of a fall, I think. So instead, Tapi came up and thanked everyone for coming, including the press, and told us we were going to fail out of school for going to the event.
Despite the tickets being listed at costing 5€, the 2 for 1 offer on drinks, and so on, the event was completely free. Both entrance, coat check and drinks. To top it all off, we were also given a pussytive shirt at the exit.
It was really sweet of Movistar+ and the Skam España team to do this for the fans and try their best to make everything seem real. 💛 Even though the wifi was bad.
Una de las acciones más guays que hemos hecho desde SKAM España :) ♥

I realised i did actually have a “professional” question as well (or so many, i’ll try not to fully spam you...), but I’ve always wondered that do you ever come across people who think the ig accounts or especially lucas’s youtube channel belong to real people? (All the characters are real to me, but you know what i mean) The youtube channel especially seems like something people could find and start following without realising what it is haha.
Yes, and the more confused they are the happier I am about our work. Our main goal is for all the social channels to be as realistic as possible.
Hi! Don’t know if i already missed the q&a, but i needed to contribute because as a gay communications/media student you are absolutely living my dream haha. So my question is, how has skam not completely taken over your life? Like how have you functioned these past months? And how are we supposed to continue our lives now? I’ve just been analysing stuff on tumblr and i feel like that has already taken over my life completely, so i can’t even imagine how you are feeling right now.
The answer is that it did take over my life, I wasn't a functional human being and I honestly don't know how to carry on with my life. We'll get over it somehow.
This is more of a personal question , how are you so fluent in english? Im just curious (and also thankful) bc youre answering in english hahaha Also thanks for all of your work! Its been a pleasure following skam es so far especially bc the social media stuff is on a whole other level
My parents are english and irish so I’m bilingual. Helps with the memes.
Are the wardrobe of the characters from the actors or the show provides them? Was the choice of joana wearing almost the same pair of dark clothes linked to her feeling in a dark place for her illness or just a fashion choice?
None of the clothes are of the actors, the actors and the characters are two very different things. And I can’t really answer the second question because it’s not my department!
If you had to guess , who would you guess is the little spoon between joana and Cris ?
This is totally my own opinion and I haven’t talked to the writers team about this (believe it or not) but this is my guess: I’d say usually Joana is the big spoon but Cris will probably gladly take over if she feels Joana needs to be little spoon jajaja.
do you only film instagram stuff when the actual show is filming too? is it being filmed one after the other (as in on the same day in the same outfits)? another question: sometimes we got instagram stories of cris being at school etc where there was no clip… do you intentionally have more stories/outfits than shown in the tv show as a little extra for fans or did the clip from that day just not make it onto the show?
The actors can only work during filming hours, really, so pretty much everything is done on set.
Yes, we intentionally take pics and film stories to fill the no-clip days :) Movistar wants to feed you guys good!
how did you come up with cris’ send this to your crush video? why did you decide to do it? did you have it all planned out before or did irene improvise too?
I’d been thinking about it from the beginning of the season because I really felt it went well with the character. So I convinced Irene to do it, she loved the idea and in literally 10 minutes between scenes we filmed it! My amazing teammate @happip edited it and the result is just my favourite thing ever.
So characters are liking posts based on their moods and situations. Are posts that they are liking planned before or it just happens that day there is a post from account they are following which fits at the moment. I hope you understood, my english is so bad ♥️
Based on the day! We actively scount out what they could be feeling. We honestly thought noone would notice this.
how much is improvised by the actors themselves vs how much do you tell them exactly what to do? i am especially curious about 2 stories (i have really been waiting to ask all these questions hahaha) when cris and amira: 1. go to flying tiger to find a gift for viri: how does filming in public/a store work? did you talk about what exactly they should do/ were you in the store with them? 2. are on their way to viri’s house and there’s the story of cris dancing: did you tell irene how to dance
We usually tell them the idea and what they are meant to be feeling, we hardly ever tell them exactly what to do… we “direct” them, more or less. Imagine, the storie of Cris at the hospital had to be done a couple of times because the first were just too comical, so we toned it down a little.
Hi ! Great work with all the sm content ! I wanted to know what it was like watching Irene and Tamara perform because for me there aren’t many actresses who can pull off a season the way Irene did. Tremendous work.
I got really emotional on set sometimes tbh. So damn good, they also reminded me of my on relationship when I was a teen. So yeah, I’ve probably cried as much as you guys watching the show. Like, multiple times per clip. Amira-Cris coming out? So much crying. Cris opening up to the girls about how she only feels like a party-friend? Balled my eyes out. Cris running in to Joanas arms in the hospital and Dani being the best big brother? Oh boyo, you get the drift. I loved the second season more than anyone.
since you film the regular scenes before all the real instagram posts go up, how does it work that we can see cris’ phone on the show? is there a special instagram knock off app for it that all the skam remakes use?
That’s such a great and fun question!!! First season it was ALL done realistically. We literally uploaded all the content and filled it up with bots so what you saw the characters interacting with was real. But as the accounts were active this second season we decided to make animated videos that the actors interacted with. They had a little finger choreography they had to learn like swipe up, like, zoom in to Joana’s face. I think we made it work! Obviously we had all the content ready before we filmed that scene and that was difficult sometimes to get right in the filming schedule.
are the instagram stories filmed on iphones?
Actually, its been shot on different phones depending on the characters financial situation but noone seems to have noticed. #funfact
Hello ! First I wanted to tell you how amazing your work was! The minuto a minuto account was a fantastic surprise and it made me teared up a bit because it's something really important to me ☺️ Secondly, the remakes are always using the same apps for the conversations (insta, WhatsApp), but were you free to choose wich social medias the characters will use ? If yes, are they choosed because they're the most popular in spain ? Or the easiest to design ? Again, thank you for your work 💜💜
We chose what’s most used in Spain. Facebook didn’t make any sense, we don’t use snapchat, nor twitter… I really wanted to try getting Cris in to TilTok but we just didn’t have time and there was no justification for it, hahaha. A girl can dream. Maybe in the future.
is social media content produced and filmed like a regular scene? i mean photos and videos not texts obviously hahaha
More or less, we get allocated slots in the day of filming and we try to have it all very organized because we have to have the right hair, makeup, elements, clothes, etc. but we try to get as much content as we can in any way possible working as a team :)
