I've been meaning to knit something based on the Tolkien cover of The Hobbit for a very long time now. My dad read this version to me when I was small and it's distinctive enough to work super well when simplified.

I'm knitting it using the double knitting technique with 3.25mm needles and dk weight yarn.

Because this scarf has some colour changes that aren't obvious from the pattern I've tagged all the switches on the chart. The back of the scarf comes out a little abstract (see second picture) but I still think it works.

I'm thinking of drawing up a monochrome version too, because why not at this point.

My art for the Erha RBB (@2ha-events). I knitted a Chu Wanning and a Mo Ran and crocheted both whips.

The base pattern of the dolls is inspired by @notanicedragon 's keyring buddy. The clothes are all free handed and for the most part ironed for a better drape. Originally I wanted to make the wips with small leaves but it didn't work out in the scale I was working at, so both are just a series of 3 chains followed by a picot stitch. I did Jiangui first and it took a bit for me to get the hang of twisting the chain so that the small bumps are always on opposite sites. By the time I made Tianwen I had it figured out though.

For Christmas this year, I got a Jurassic Park Velociraptor toy, and even though it’s now a few days past Christmas, I decided to make this stopmotion video because I couldn’t stop laughing at the idea. Enjoy!

I love the Discworld books for a lot of reasons: the characters, the humour, and most of all the words. I’m keeping it simple on this glorious 25th of May and designing a scarf that is almost entirely Pterry’s words, with just a little bit of pattern thrown in.

If/when I knit it, I’ll use the double knitting technique with 3.25mm needles and dk weight yarn. However, I have other favourite words to design layouts for first, so I can pick my favourite!

Star Wars: Knitting the Galaxy comes out today and I’m very excited to say that one of my patterns is in it! It’s my first time being published in a real, physical book, and it was a whole new experience. I got to knit with the good yarn. My pattern was tech edited. I couldn’t tell anyone about a thing I was knitting for months!

I’m absolutely making the lightsaber socks when my copy arrives.

Keyring Buddies are quick to knit and easy to adapt so I’ve been working through some Avengers designs while planning out Harry Potter and Star Wars ideas. Trouble is I have five keys in the world and they don’t need individual mascots.

Oh well. I’ll have spare.

Avengers #64 - “Like a Death Ray in the Sky!” (1969)

You know that bit at the beginning of Marvel productions when the pflt-pflt-pflt noise starts and you're going through the pages of a comic book and it turns into the logo. Yeah, I love that bit. I love it so much I knitted a very self indulgent scarf to remind me of it. Specifically an Avengers scarf because there are too many Marvel heroes to fit onto a single piece of knitwear. Designs are mostly taken from the cinematic version of the characters, but I've thrown in a couple of comic book references too.

The technique I used was double knitting which means the image on the front of the scarf is mirrored in reverse colours on the back. If I was a professional art person I would probably write something about the negative image representing the transition of comic book panels to film. Luckily I'm only a humble crafts person and don't have to do that.

I used a little bit of lots of colours – thirteen in total – but that could definitely be reduced. And because someone always asks the needles I used were UK size 9 (3.75mm) and the yarns were all dk weight. The scarf measures 22cm by 200cm and weighs a little over 300g.

Comic book table: done! \o/

I accidentally bought a double copy of Avengers vol 3 issue 28 when I was at Megacon, so I figured I’d put it to some good use. I also had a spare A+X #1 and various other leftover scraps from other decapodge projects (Iron Man: Most Wanted, Iron Man: Armor Wars… some House of M stuff…). 

And, voila! Avengers side table! \o/ Let’s see, some notes:

I didn’t realize until after I did it that if you save the borders/sides for last, you end up with a sort of “frame” around your table. I personally LIKE how it turned out (thank goodness, ha), but if you don’t want that look, be sure to do your border/side FIRST, then cover it up with later layers.

Had two great Steve and Tony full-page cut outs, worked well over the “Avengers” logo. 

Avengers 3.28 just so happens to have like my IDEAL lady line up, which meant I got to line up my FAVORITE ladies just below the Avengers logo: Jan, Carol, Wanda, and Jen ^.^

It PROBABLY would look better withOUT that top layer of the Tony+Steve, Avengers logo, and the ladies below it. Like, just with the full panels and stop there. BUT I like it the way it is for MY Avengers table. If I was making this like, as a professional thing, I’d probably leave off that top layer and just stick with the single layer of comic panels, no embellishments. 

And then just some shots of the sides. It’s a great opportunity to do some long-panels, like Bucky point on the right, there, or Cap’s shield flying on the left. :D

I still have to let it dry, add some more decoupage layers, sand it down, and then seal it. But I figured I’d upload the pictures now in case I mess it up later!
