But why Newts car was called Dick Turpin?
Dick Turpin was the name of a famous outlaw. He was a highwayman who robbed people on the road. The joke is that Dick Turpin (the criminal) holds up cars (robs them), and Dick Turpin (the car) holds up cars (backing up traffic by being an unreliable car and breaking down).
Don’t you just HATE IT when you get caught up in a war you never meant to join, get your fucking leg chopped off by a blast of holy flame as you’re fleeing for your life while your entire world collapses around you, unarmed and unprotected, thus are forced to crawl over the dead and dying bodies of both comrades and enemies who you once knew and some who you didn’t but know had lives before you that are now out like the last spark of a flame in the breeze and you now crawl, wings drawn in to keep from detection, coated in the blood of dead angels, towards the end of the horizon where you will throw yourself from the gates of Heaven and saunter vaguely downward before the bright eyes of God rest upon you and thrust forth the judgement that terrifies you to the point where you feel you must willingly Fall to the Earth before you are cast down by his will?
Happens every tuesday, DAMN :/ Anyways all joking aside, I wanted to make a backstory for Crowley being referred to as Crawly instead of some demon name like Hastur, and I thought it’d be interesting if it was because some other demon spotted him while he was “crawling” across the corpses in the battlefield before making the jump (he glides down) by himself. He was already deserting, he just had the misfortune to get hit. Since they don’t have names after Falling they just call him Crawly as a testament to his cowardice. I feel like Crowley is the kind of guy who tries his best not to think about it because it’s in the past, but also he truly doesn’t want to dwell on his emotions surrounding that period of time because he’ll start thinking about the faces, and feel regret, and probably feels like it’s 6000 years too late to start thinking now, so he tries to block the incident out of his mind. He did saunter vaguely downward, but it wasn’t pleasant so much as it was him getting the hell out of dodge. He just hung around with the wrong people, but they kind of died. I like to think that Heaven and Hell take so long to instigate the Great War because they suffered so many losses in the first one that they’ve literally been building up their power for 6000 years, and neither are what they used to be.
There was a bit of interest in this scholarly paper last year when I posted this link in connection with Book Club so here it again:

Ineffable boyfriends after the apocalypse… How much do I love them… They were sooo fluffy at the and of the book
he’s READY TO SPRITZ
Fuck Neil Gaiman btw lol
No offense at all intended towards Mr. Tennant and before anyone has a hissy fit in my inbox this is my PERSONAL OPINION
But this is the Crowley I (personally) wanted to see in major adaptations
He's so pretty 😍 look at him
And his wings are WHITE (because, y'know, the point is angels and demons aren't different. And you don't need a """"visual shorthand"""" to tell them apart 🙄)
Also I think all the Gomens characters exist in my mind as cartoon characters so this is just inherently better. I know it wasn't in the cards but what I personally wanted to see was an animated adaptation. Something about it just feels cartoony
Aziraphale is whatever who cares what that guy looks like. They're just gonna make him some blond guy anyway because the idea of an angel not being blond is apparently too much for some people. I mean some background angels can be black of course to show we're not racist. Anyway look at his huge eyebrows
CROWLEY REVIVES THE DOVE ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD
CUTE MADAM TRACY JUMP SCARE MOMENT
It looks like the graphic novel is a more 1:1 adaptation than the TV show. Glad to see they still kept out Aziraphale being called a faggot though LMAOOOOOOOO
They did keep in Madam Tracy's seance being a Native American stereotype rather than changing it to a creepy little Victorian girl tho like the TV show. Which is a lesson in accuracy to source material not always being the right decision LMAO
I admit I miss Beelzebub having an association with flies because otherwise it just look like he randomly talks like that. But Metatron and Beelzebub looking basically identical is a nice touch
I liked the graphic novel, it's more faithful which means it sticks to the original themes more but also it's less interesting than the TV show to see what changes and nice touches they made to update the story since it's over 30 years old at this point and they pretty much changed nothing at all. They did take out some stuff I think the story is better without, but also left in some of that stuff too. I'm really impressed that Colleen Doran drew all this by herself????? The illustrations and character designs are generally pretty good. Overall a solid adaptation even though I would have liked it to take a little risk with fresh changes like the show did, but I guess that's natural since it's the Pratchett estate and they don't want to change much in his memory. It feels a lot like the audio drama in terms of they mostly just recreated dialogue and narration from the book. Also it's refreshing to have a new adaptation that Neilman isn't involved with...
Also also the blessings of #kilt Crowley
Things the books do while you’re away.
Woah! Dude this porn popped up on my dash in public. some warning next time??
i found my pencils
whoah this year's gomens pride month drawing is JC Leyendecker inspired
I obviously can't draw or paint as well as he does but I can attempt the design sensibility and the period suits! I just wanted to draw something Edwardian so it's giving "what if they had pride parades in 1908" lol. The lacy handkerchief is the Gilbert Baker pride flag with the turquoise and pink stripes included and is also supposed to evoke flagging bandanas and hankies, bc I thought it would be fun to combine time periods and ideas into one.
This will also be in my shop as a print! Link in my pinned posts if you want one✨ 🩷💕 PLUS! I did an extra version of this painting with confetti, which I didn't like as much as the plain but I did still like enough to show, so that will be under the cut 🩷
