Plan A: Bamboo
In wake of the immense deforestation taking place across the globe, we need to search for alternatives. Bamboo has been a staple building material and food source in numerous countries across the globe, particularly the in the Pacific. Although part of the grass family, It has a higher compression strength than wood, concrete, and brick. It also has a tensile strength that rivals steel. Could bamboo replace conventional lumber?
The Reality of Plastic
Every piece of plastic that has ever been produced is still on, in, or orbiting our planet. Considering the quantity of plastic that already exists, I believe it's a good call to cease contributing to it. Especially considering there has never been more plastic produced or used in human history. Plastic is an incredibly useful resource, it's incredibly cheap to produce and strong for it's volume. Above-all, plastic is of tremendous economical value and so there are fortified barriers to eliminating the use of plastics. My opinion is not that the plastic itself is the problem, it's how we as a global society are abusing it. I believe making our lives more difficult/inconvenient now, by creating viable alternatives to plastic and finding plastic re-use solutions, will save us greater difficulty later.
