Girl with a Pearl Earring

Girl with a Pearl Earring is one of the most iconic paintings of all time, partially due to the 2003 movie, starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth.

Here 5 things you probably didn’t know about Girl with a Pearl Earring.

English street artist Banksy has recreated the painting as a mural in Bristol, replacing the pearl earring with an alarm box and calling the artwork Girl with a Pierced Eardrum.

After the restoration they discover that the background wa meant to be a deep enamel-like green., but two organic pigment used in the painting has faded.

The historic novel titled after the painting is fictional.

The painting is known also as Girl with Turban.

In 2001, British artist David Hockney published the book Secret Knowledge: Rediscovering the Lost Techniques of the Old Masters, in which he argued that Vermeer used optics to achieve precise positioning in their compositions, and specifically some combination of curved mirrors, camera obscura, and camera lucida.
