Dolly Parton is an icon now, but back in 1979, she was only just establishing herself as a force in music. It didn't take long, with her captivating voice and emotional performances. This single, "Heartbreaker," is a favorite of many Dolly fans. Even better, it was co-written by GP Music Director David Wolfert! #ThrowbackThursday
Excited to welcome a new editor to the Goodpenny family! John Marinis is the newest addition to the GP edit team, coming to us with vast experience and an upbeat and vibrant approach to editing. Throughout his career, he has worked at many of NYC’s top shops, including Crew Cuts, Cut+Run, and most recently, The Cutting Room. John has created exciting content for ESPN, Johnnie Walker, Olay, Hershey’s, YouTube, Kenneth Cole, Volkswagen, Tanqueray, and Nissan, to name a few. It's August 1st, which means the MTV Video Music Awards are less than a month away (24 days, to be exact)! For today's #ThrowbackThursday, check out the Best Breakthrough Video winner at 1993's MTV VMA's, edited by GP's Bruce Ashley.
ABC's "Nashville" was just nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Music and Lyrics category. We've also been mesmerized by the music from the show, so we're very excited that our own Andrew Hollander has been working with Dana Parish, Amy Stroup, and Mary Hooper on songs for the next seasons of the show. Happy songwriters above.
GP mixer Lawrence Manchester gets to show off his versatility this Emmy's, with nominations for both "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and "Smash." While you wait for Jesse and the Rippers to take the Fallon stage tonight, check out "Voice in a Dream," nominated for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. Lawrence mixed this song and another Emmy-nominated song from Smash, "Hang the Moon," in our own Sugarbox Studios!
Andrew Hollander is hard at work in the studio this summer working on the upcoming Kelly Clarkson album. He's been collaborating with some amazing writers, including Anne Preven, Jaden Michaels, Dan Rockett, and Sandy Chila.
We welcomed producer Ryan Gaul to the Goodpenny family a couple weeks ago. He's come back east to New York from LA, and we couldn't be more excited to work with him. When he's not working hard to create great content here at GP, you can find Ryan playing in the park with his two pitbulls, or chatting up strangers at the local pub.
We may have just come off of a sweltering July 4th weekend, but it's never too early to start shopping for fall. GP Editor Bruce Ashley gets behind the camera as the director of this smart new spot for one of Canada's top retailers.
It looks like it's going to be a rainy week, which means it's a great time to go see a movie. Our pick is "A Girl and a Gun," a documentary from Cathryne Czubek showcasing "the female perspective on an object whose history is deeply bound to men and masculinity." It's a fascinating and relevant film, and it was scored by our own Andrew Hollander. The 34th annual Telly Award winners were announced yesterday...and our own Bruce Ashley received a Bronze Award for his editing work on last spring's viral H&M Fashion Against AIDS spot, "Kisses!" Check out the award-winning cut above (featuring real couples).
We are so proud that we were able to hold a fundraiser/screening of the trailer to our friend Daniel Maree's important film, "Maree v. State," at the Goodpenny space last night.
