- Just keep swimming... - Keep moving forward... 

These sayings we hear every day to keep us active - striving for more and stopping ourselves from getting caught up in gossip or stressful events that are playing on our mind.  Sometimes these words don’t work and the phrase in the picture made me think about why we “worry”. 

Stop fretting about the past. What’s the point? In some situations you need to simply accept: What has happened has happened - there’s nothing you can do about it now - All that’s left is to deal with the future. 

And if you’re fretting about the future.... What’s the point? Will it be helpful? Or do you need to take a breath, give it your all, and think: What will happen will happen - there is nothing more I can do.

This is how I get through my day. Whatever it is: exam, job application, doctor’s visit, meeting new people.... just do it, all you can do is all you can do - take a breath and accept the challenge long with the consequences.

Here are some words from Thomas Pynchon’s 1973 novel ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’ that made me think about what happened during colonisation - how people treated the countries that were not their precious homeland, but just (lacking a better word) ‘extra’ land to them. 

“...in the colonies life can be indulged, life and sensuality in all its forms, with no harm done to the Metropolis, nothing to soil those cathedrals, white marble statues, noble thoughts. . . . No word ever gets back. The silences down here are vast enough to absorb all behavior, no matter how dirty, how animal it gets...”
