how do you personally go about selling more risky stuff like keychains? Which shops do you know that have that pre-order thing and how do they work exactly? Do you have the money to pay for the stock before you put it on pre-order or do you rely on the money you get from people pre-ordering???

i’m at the stage where i have the funds to buy the stock first. i’m able to kind of sense what kind of products will do well with my audience and go from there, but that comes from over a year of doing this.
i don’t know any specific shops that do that. but that’s how i started out.
the whole point of that pre-order system was to gauge how many people actually go to the point of paying for it - to see exactly how much you need to get manufactured. whether you use the money that people give you through the pre-order is up to your situation - i would recommend having that bit of disposable income yourself so you can fulfill the orders quicker, ie arrange manufacturing as soon as the preorder period closes - if you do the other way it might be some time before the funds actually reach your account
