I don’t think we talk about how the “Gordon” the science team knows and loves is technically not real. He’s a character played by a streamer. The most important person in their lives is someone they barely know, a facade for content. To the point where in the Half Life 2 act one stream he says he needs to “be Gordon so the AI will recognize him.” Is that not kind of terrifying. It makes the wall between Wayne (the guy in character playing hlvrai, not the real guy who writes the series) and his AI friends even larger. What happens when the gnome series comes into play and the identity of “Gordon” is forced on him and the lines start to blur. Why have I seen no one talking about this I feel like I’m losing my mind. Let’s not even START about it Alyx because that’s a whole other can of identity worms. The meta layers to this series gets so confusing it terrifies and intrigues me to no end.

GORDON IS KIND OF A PRICK!!! ITS ONE OF HIS BEST AND MOST INTERESTING CHARACTER FLAWS!!! His complete lack of consideration for people and his tendency to disregard the feelings of his friends is what sets him up for failure constantly!! It’s implied the only reason Benrey even becomes a bad guy is because Gordon is an asshole to him for practically no reason!!! He’s loud and irritable and inconsiderate!! He knows he’s supposed to be the main character which unintentionally causes his companions to fade into the background of his mind, even if he cares about them deeply! There’s always going to be a level of disconnect between him and the AIs because he’s an entirely different beast to them, and the fact Gordon is a character being played rather than a real person makes that distance grow exponentially!!! And my theory is that it’s gonna be what fucks him over in hl2 as well!!! He can’t confront certain aspects of himself because the game never challenges to, to both his and the science teams suffering.
