I run this blog because I enjoy blogging more than any smart ass anon comments, I receive.

I can simultaneously acknowledge that I am not great at dealing with hate, while doing my best to create a positive environment where that occurs less often, and where I can pursue this hobby and use it as a positive force.

Just because something is difficult doesn’t mean its not worth pursuing.

I can block all these assholes if need be. They will not ruin this platform for me.

BC Liberal ads in social conservative magazine ran alongside anti-LGBTQ and pro-conversion therapy articles

BC Liberal MLAs are billing British Columbia taxpayers thousands of dollars to run ads in a hardline social conservative magazine that publishes articles railing against topics ranging from abortion to pornography to bans on conversion therapy.

In total, 14 BC Liberal MLAs — over one-third of the party’s caucus — have already expensed more than $1,700 over the last 18 month on ads in The Light Magazine.

That amount is likely higher as a dozen BC Liberal MLAs have appeared in ads in recent months but MLA expenses for 2020 have not yet been disclosed. While MLAs receive a budget to place ads in local newspapers to promote constituency work, the BC Liberal ads in Light Magazine appear alongside anti-LGBTQ content.

Light Magazine describes itself as “a free monthly Christian lifestyle magazine” that discusses “everyday life issues such as health, stress, marriage, family, managing finances, being single, growing older, faith and culture and more.”

However, the magazine also promotes highly controversial views, including something called the “West Coast Christian Accord” on “gender identity and human sexuality,” which condemns “homosexual, polygamous, or polyamorous” marriages and those who “adopt a homosexual or transgender self-perception.”

In Canada no one gets turned away from doctors due to lack of funds. In America, exorbitant bills are the defining feature of the system. What about quality of care? When it comes to #/COVID19, theres been ~ 21 deaths per 100,000 in Canada, versus 34 per 100,000 in the U.S. 4/6

University of California(Davis) has been reported to pay $175000 for this image to not appear when you search it on google

On November 18th, 2011, a peaceful protest was held in UC Davis. A branch of “Occupy Wallstreet”, Occupy UC Davis was intended to protest police violence on UC campuses. The police responded by hearing their concerns, agreeing and then pepper-sprayed the protesters. That’s right, they attacked students that were protesting the fact that they attack people. source

If you’re thinking “Oh man, someone got some compensation for this, right!?” Yup. Someone did. The cop.

The stress of being the poor victim netted him a $38,000 in worker’s comp.

That’s more than a lot of people make in a full year. source

UC Davis “Investigated” this. And the guy who conducted the investigation was a Police Chief William J. Bratton - Chairman of the private business that provides UC Davis’s security. SOMEHOW there wasn’t enough evidence to charge the officers involved in this incident. source

It just came out that UC Davis has paid $175,000+ to a private “Image Management firm”, who is putting all of that sweet, sweet dollar into manipulating Google’s search engines, as well as other networks, to make it a lot LOT harder to find reminders that this happened. Read that what-proper:

“At least we’re not as bad as the States,” we say as we:

- Deny native People the right to protest a pipeline, assaulting them and denying any media coverage of it at all

- Have police “witness” a black woman “jump off a balcony” (read, she was murdered, they pushed her)

- Deny any help to disabled people who don’t work

- Kick out a Sikh member of parliament for calling out racism

- Condemn that member of parliament for being racist against “Quebecers”

- Have full rally’s protesting Greta for speaking about global warming. Full grown men drove across an entire province in protest of a teenage girl because they love the oilfield that much.

- Had people protesting their worker rights be assaulted by police

- Have had the government ignore the crisis in nursing homes

- The federal government has promised to relax the restrictions on donating blood if you’re gay, for 5 years as they fight a gay man in court over the matter

- The federal government was called out to, to ban conversion therapy, they said it was a provincial issue

- Alberta rolled out (or tried to) an anti-protest Bill that denied protesters any place to protest during the pandemic

- The federally elected government (The Liberal Party) had to be pressured by the NDP to even give $2000 (what is said to be how much a Canadian needs per month to survive) a month per Canadian. Disabled people on Alberta (second highest paid province?) get paid $1685 a month.

- The federally elected government has been asked over and over again to investigate the disappearance of indigenous women which reached over 200 in 2016.

- We have so many stories of police brutality against the indigenous population

- @allthecanadianpolitics has an entire list of horror stories involving the RCMP/Police going on right now

- A year or two back, a military investigation was launched on a platoon for Fascism

- Across Canada theres been vocal protests of, “go back to your own country” to anyone who wasn’t visibly white

- Our major stereotypes we have include how indigenous populations are lazy and live on reserves to get rich

- Edmonton’s Football Team Name Is A Slur

This is all gathered from memory.

This doesn’t even cover a drop in the bucket. Stop romanticizing Canada as this pure beautiful Country we’re just as horrible, shitty and oppressive.

Worst off, don’t use us to push America down. We have no leg to stand on. Our “free” healthcare is not even free, it’s an underfunded mess that doesn’t even cover special needs or anything.

Please don't forget what Jagmeet Singh has done for everyone after this pandemic is over. Unfortunately, a lot of people tend to forget the work of people of colour. I'm sure a lot of Canadians are/ will thank Trudeau for getting us through COVID19, and Jagmeet Singh's efforts will be forgotten. Please continue to give Jagmeet credit for actually doing all he has promised and don't forget that throughout history, it is always people of colour that have fought for our rights and freedom.

I mean…the Toronto Star isn’t the only newspaper in Canada.

Torstar isn’t just the Toronto Star. It owns all of these papers:

The Toronto Star was one of the few major newspapers in Canada that weren’t actively swinging to the right. The Toronto Star wasn’t necessarily left leaning, but it was at least staying in the centre when it came to coverage. It concerns me that Conservative Party donors now own the company. This is a big deal.

Other major newspapers like The Globe and Mail and all those owned by Postmedia (which owns most daily newspapers in Canada) all lean heavily to the right.

Now the only potential non-Conservative news source might be the CBC (but they’ve been on thin ice lately with some of their coverage) and small, independent newspapers and websites like The Tyee, Ricochet, etc.

If there’s anytime to support small, independent and leftist newspapers and websites, its now.

Greyhound operated the entire bus network on Vancouver Island until it stopped serving Western Canada in 2018.

There is only one bus company that currently runs between the North Island communities of Campbell River and Port Hardy and soon there may be none.

Tofino Bus Services Inc. has applied to the Provincial Transportation Board (PTB) for permission to drop the route, which must be granted before discontinuing service. The company’s application cites low ridership and profits as the reasons for axing the once-a-day run.

The government should just nationalize routes such as these. They’re essential even if the ridership is low but companies have little desire to keep such routes open or, if they do, cannot afford to keep routes open that cost them money to run.

Especially these specific routes which are going through small and dying towns with an aging population that is less and less able to drive themselves every year. It’s also hard to bring in new blood if there is no way to visit or move to such towns outside of owning your own car.

Ive had coworkers up in hardy completely rely on this bus for ages and shipped lots of stuff on it, it is absolutely tragic that we are loosing so many of our bus routes in the west. As someone who couldn’t drive for most of my life this job was one of the few that people in my area could do because it was busable. If greyhounds hadn’t existed I would never have been able to leave the city and start having a career or a better life. If i had waited even a few years i would have been hooped. Absolutely tragic

In Saskatchewan we had the STC. Province run bus company. Helped thousands of people get to and from city centres for decades. Then the sask party was elected. Dissolved the STC because it didn’t make enough money. It wasn’t designed to make money, it was designed as a service for the people of Saskatchewan. These con assholes took that away.

I fully support you folks on the Island. I lived in Campbell River for years and I know how valuable that bus service is. Now I live in Lillooet in the Interior and we have had the same "no public transportation" problem for years since the Province sold the railway line e to CN and they shut down the passenger trains. Now they'shut even the freight trains! And we have never had a regular bus service to anywhere! I'm 74, have recently had a couple of strokes that affected my vision, so my driving licence has been revoked. Now what do I do? And I' m not the only one. These services should be nationalized and in a manner so that some future right-wing government cannot reverse it!

Members of the remote community near Bella Bella have grown increasingly vocal after observing a number of yachts and other pleasure vessels pulling into the nearby harbour, violating a travel advisory that has been in place for nearly a month.

The Heiltsuk First Nation on B.C.’s central coast has a simple message to recreational boaters and other tourists: stay away from our community during the coronavirus pandemic.

Marilyn Slett, the elected chief councillor of the Heiltsuk, says the concern is not only for the elders within the community but also for the travellers themselves.

“We understand that people are out and trying to remain safe during these uncertain times, but our community has really limited resources,” she said.

“If someone here were to get sick, including people on these recreational boats, it would take about an hour … to get them to a hospital where they could receive some medical care.”
