The month of August was about sprouting into my new home, the ever continuing evolution of myself, leaning into my inner world and connection with myself, and the love that exists within myself. Passionately exploring and opening up to the possibility of what exists on the other side of something that might seem really scary, life changing, even paralyzing. Trusting in a new beginning. A new awakening. And what a brand new breath of air, light, and environment can instill in onself.
I explored the island with Nala taking time to recenter and rejuvenate by getting into the natural world, away from others, and close to the ocean and spirit of the island. I headed down south to the southernmost tip of the island, known as Southpoint, where Polynesians first landed on the Hawaiian islands. I stayed at an epic airbnb with a 180 degree view of the ocean in a town called Naalehu. I then traveled up the coast to the Captain Cook area and visited the magical Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park. Nala and I enjoyed beautiful times on a few beaches overlooking the most gorgeous and other worldly Kealakekua Bay! In August, I also spent time traveling up north of Kona heading to the north side of the island along the windy Kohala coast, feeling utterly alive and connected to all the elements. Nala and I were lucky enough to hike down into the most stunning and sacred Polulu valley, frolic in the river, prance in the bright green fairy looking forest, and stare out at the infinite and invigorating waves breaking on the rugged coast, reflecting light that danced back and forth from valley floor to ocean side. I also explored the town of Waimea, full of endless rolling green pastures which extended on for forever leading into the grandiose expansive heights of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. I then drove the north east coast home back to Hilo, stunned by all the aliveness of the island and the tropical magic that exists on the Hamakua coast. Back in Hilo town, I began to surf at Honoli’i beach! A huge dream of mine for living in Hawai’i was to be able to surf all the time and develop this incredible passion of mine! When I looked at the Big Island to live, I looked at all the surf spots and asked friends about the surf! That was a huge motivating factor in the desire to live in Hawaii! So I was so excited to finally be able to surf here!!! It had been on my mind everyday since I moved here. I started surfing by borrowing my friend’s board. The first day in the water moved me to almost tears. I jumped in the crystal clear Pacific with views of the green Big Island and flowing river behind me and sea turtles immediately were popping up everywhere! I was in heaven! I literally was in the happiest place I could ever imagine! Surfing with sea turtles?!! What more could a girl ask for!!! So many locals there were so kind and encouraging and helpful giving my friends and me tips and tricks and even pushes down the line up! Within that week a friendly local offered to sell me one of his 8 ft wavestorms! I was on cloud 9!!!! Finally had my own board so I could surf whenever I wanted! I was in heaven surfing on the gorgeous days at Honoli’i and immediately started developing my surfing skills again!
I had exciting realizations about what I was experiencing and witnessing as a program guide holding a safe space and container for these adolescents to feel their emotions and gain more control of their inner world and responses. It was so incredibly uplifting to see the process of their emotional growth and regulation after the pain they endured as sensitive beings trying to have their needs met and dealing with the external environments they were in and around in the best way they could. It gave me hope in the future of humanity seeing this desire to feel, process, and heal in this generation of adolescents.

Rooting in Hawai’i!
The next weeks I spent spreading my roots in Hilo, Hawaii, my new home. Settling in to a new place to live, a new job, and a new phase of life! Beginning work at Pacific Quest was really exciting, inspiring, challenging, and mentally and physically exhausting for the first couple of weeks. But every single week I seemed to learn exponentially more every single week. I was so intrigued and inspired by the emotional intelligence and growth I was witnessing in the kids as well as their passion, excitement, wonder and awe of the things in the natural world around them. These kids we work with are highly sensitive, perceptive, self aware, and intelligent, so many of them with extremely high IQs. Their excitedness, observations, and reflections were heartwarming and fostered such hope in their understanding and connection to their self as well as their future relationships.
The month of July included solo adventures and exploration of the island with Nala. We explored some really unique ecosystems and climate zones, seeing lava fields, rugged cliffs above coastlines, and rivers running out of the tropical mountain sides. I also befriended a sweet soul, Leah, who was a former PQ guide with the kindest heart, who I was lucky enough to meet and gain as a friend to both Nala and me. I also spent fun time giggling, pot lucking, playing music, and hanging with my PQ coworker and fellow Florida girl Sadie (who was connected to me through my bestie Andrea) and my Kaumana cave roomate Ly! PQ had some sweet people who I automatically connected with over human behavior, healing, and healing of our earth, and felt so lucky to have met so many bright and passionate souls so quickly upon my initial landing on the island. The month of July saw some highs and lows but this was a time of growth and grounding and I was excited and hopeful to see what would come when I continued to push myself to expand and grow.
Know this is a couple days late on social media but really need to wish a happy happy 25th birthday to my brunette soul sista from a different mista, my kitty lovin bestie, my college bff @sarahehill23 !!!! 💗Happy 25 years young ! Trashed. Beautiful sculpture with a sad, harsh reality. Please do not litter anywhere, anytime, any place. Recycle. And that's not even a big deal. Recycling should absolutely be second nature to all of us. We should all be working to eliminate our trash, resource, and energy use. Yes, it does something but recycling is only just the beginning. We need to all be thinking on a greater scale, reaching a greater awareness and awakening to our collective consciousness and realizing being earth friendly is natural, is second nature, is part of "being", and the least we can do for living and taking resources from our beautiful Mother Earth. When will we incorporate the intrinsic right to live of all natural beings as part of environmental taxes in our world economy , for the human impact we have on our earth? Always teach your kids compassion for the Earth, for the Ocean, for Animals, for all beings big and small, because when you respect where you live and love and all others around you, you can love yourself more fully and live your authentic life !
