Games play an important role in children’s development. It gives them a way to have fun, develops their imagination and teaches them new skills. However, a game should never stay the same for long. Children’s imagination is a source of never-ending ideas, which needs to be encouraged and challenged in order to learn and develop.
The Box is the Game is a model for package-free games which use lateral thinking to encourage creative and sustainable lifestyle. The model can be applied to a variety of games and age groups. For the illustration of my concept I developed a box, which is formed by a set of board games and all their components. The game needs no packaging as it is constructed by the elements it contains, forming a perfect box. It needs no other material than the one for play and it takes no extra space on the shelf. It is perfectly safe and degradable as it is made out of paper only.
The game is inspired by the Chinese boxes, which are intriguing to open and fit back together. It develops imagination and thinking, using various techniques. The box contains a variety of games, each of which transforms in order to serve more than one purposes. As a result children are inspired to change it, re-design it and make their own game with any paper they have handy.
