Summertime Nygmobblepot headcanons! ☀️ Mayoral era, but could also be general.
Ed dislikes the sensory hell of hot weather. To counteract it he spends a lot of time either in the pool at the Van Dahl estate or a tepid shower, and keeps inviting Oswald to join him for a swim. His curly hair is harder to control in the heat, and when he's getting it wet so often Ed doesn't bother trying to straighten it anyway (this is one of Oswald's few favorite things about summer).
Oswald is a typical grumpy goth for the whole season. He barely alters his stuffy wardrobe, hides from the sun under his umbrellas, and prefers to stay inside with the air con. He usually refuses Ed's offers to come to the pool out of embarrassment at donning swimwear - even though Ed has already seen (and admired) him in much less, the bright sun draws attention to his body in ways Oswald dislikes.
The handful of times Oswald agrees to join him outside, Ed gets super excited and takes the opportunity to pamper him in different ways. He insists on applying sunscreen for Oswald's dangerously pale skin, and sneaks in a lengthy massage just to soften him up. He guides him around in the pool so Oswald won't have to use his bad leg so much, and enjoys doing silly things like diving underwater and tickling Oswald's feet and exposed midriff (which results in Oswald smacking him with a pool noodle when he resurfaces).
After Ed helps him settle on a float for the rest of the afternoon - along with a tray of fruit and ice-cold rosé, fit for the King he is - Oswald actually starts enjoying the heat on his sore muscles. Ed frequently pops up out of the water and steals his strawberries, until Oswald just starts hand-feeding him fruit whenever he swims over.
While they rarely sleep apart anyway, Ed opts to stay in Oswald's air-conditioned bedroom more often in summer because otherwise Oswald won't tolerate his partner's ridiculous body heat for cuddling... or anything more strenuous.
