What about violent crimes?? What the fuck is your dumbass going to do then without cops!

Oooo sweetie you aren’t going to like my answer.  Like I answered in the previous one, you approach things from a variety of points to handle what are complicated issues themselves, and build support so those things happen less and less. Do I think there will ever be a day when violent crimes do not happen? I hope so, but I don’t think it will happen. Do I think we can limit the scope of the violent crimes and get it to a point where it's a more rare occurrence? Absolutely.  Right now, cops do not help with violent crimes. Hell, there's a good portion of cops who commit violent crimes. Talk to someone who has been the subject of a violent crime, and more often than not the cops didn’t aid that person in any other way than trying to push the blame onto them or interrogating them six ways from Sunday.  Cops are not your friends. They’re not there to protect you; they’re there to oppress and shut people down. There a tool of the state to scare you. Only as time goes on, people are getting angrier, not more scared.

What part of that isn’t clear?  If your role in society is to help a corrupt system oppress people, to silence voices, to HURT people, you’re part of the problem. No if, ands, or buts about it. It’s really that simple.  “But Pam, we need the police!” No. We really do not. We do not needed armed, trigger happy goons who benefit from assumed righteousness and have laws in place that make it a fucking bitch and a half to hold them accountable for their actions, in a system that leads to them being found innocent most of the time because the same people prosecuting them need to rely on the police’s support in other matters. We. Do. Not. Need. The. Police.

Calm thyself, feral child. That’s not how any of this works. You actually do need the police. And there actually are good cops too. I agree, there are too many oppressive dynamics around it but ACAB and BLM are contradictory at their core principles. Yes, the police system needs fixing and the cops need to be trained more rigorously but removing the entire system will only set all hell loose.

You actually don’t need the police, fun fact. The things that they cover? You can have other jobs fill those roles, in a better way. In a safer way. In a way that doesn’t involve giving a manchild a weapon of war and a few months of training. 

The main cause for crimes is poverty. So you build a system where we focus on alleviating and fixing that. Giving people the tools and support network so that they don’t have to be in a situation where mugging someone for a few more dollars to survive seems like a viable option.

Providing them with universal healthcare that covers both physical issues and mental, as well as destigmatizing mental issues so that people can safely and securely get treated for it

Decriminalize drugs and build up actual support networks for people to get off them instead of punishing them for it

Getting rid of the prison system that is more about making $$$ and slavery than it is about rehabilitating people and preparing them to reenter society in a beneficial way

Setting rent controls so landlords can’t charge exorbitant rates

Supporting unions across the country and raising the minimum wage to be what it was meant to be when it was created; the minimum someone needed to support themselves, their spouse, and 2 dependents. And not paycheck to paycheck, but enough so they didn’t have to stress constantly about their financial situation.

Now, even with that, some people are going to commit some crimes, or endanger themselves or others. Mental breaks happen. In those cases, we don’t send a person armed with a gun whos first instinct is to shoot first and then file paperwork after claiming that they felt threatened. We send a social worker, someone who has an education on mental health, who understands whats going on and can actually make a difference to help the person. Someone to aid them, not someone whos going to murder them. 

Its almost like the system that was built off capturing escaped slaves is inherently bad and needs to be completely replaced with a better system that actually gives a damn!
