Real name: Judas Benavides

Occupation: college student at GCU, English and Music major. Part time retail job

Abilities: erebokinesis—can travel through shadows and hop from one to the other, and can slightly stretch them, but not solidify them. Extremely proficient in stealth and martial arts, and has a knack for improvised weapons.

Backstory/lore dump: Raised by an organization of assassins called the Serpents’ Den, he grew up nameless, distinguished from the other children only by the unique brand on the back of his shoulder—each a depiction of a snake in a different pose. He was trained to be a killing machine, and upon his “graduation” (as the best in his class, or “Clutch”) was given the name Taipan (yes all Serpent operatives are named after snakes). Because of his high skill, he was placed as captain of his team, or “Nest”. Having been brainwashed and indoctrinated most of his life, he led them on missions to kill without so much as batting an eye. That is, until one mission. He won’t tell anyone what happened, but when he came back from a solo mission, he was different. Shaken. He begged his teammates, the closest thing he had to family, to leave with him, but they wouldn’t. One went so far as to report him to their handler, or “Charmer”, sounding the alarm. Betrayed, Taipan fought his way out. As he faced his charmer, she hurled an insult; she called him “a judas”. He knew nothing of the origin of the term, but he knew it to mean a traitor. He ran, and didn’t stop until he was in mainland Gotham City. Visibly injured, he was found by one of Gotham’s heroes. When they asked his name, he told them it was Judas. Resolving never to kill again, and inspired by Gotham’s heroes, Judas became a vigilante, taking on the name Songbird, inspired by the whistle codes he learned as a Serpent, which he uses as warnings.
