auradon-raised nina goes by antonina but answers to literally every nickname you could possible think up, but people mostly call her annie, toni, or nina and i just think it’s sweet

𝐀𝐑𝐂 𝐕𝐈𝐈𝐈 :   𝐀𝐔𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐎𝐍-𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐄𝐃 .

          six years after the creation of the isle of the lost ,   word from yen sid travels to queen rapunzel of corona  (  behind king adam’s back  )  ,   that mother gothel has bore two young daughters on the isle .   behind closed doors ,   rapunzel and eugene confronted the king of auradon and outright demanded the removal of mother gothel’s two daughters from the isle of the lost .   hours of arguing and negotiating would eventually lead to plenty of money and resources granted in exchange for the safe retrieval of the two girls .   it would happen in the dead of night ,   and the two gothel girls would be safely scooped from their patchwork beds ,   sound asleep ,   and smuggled through the barrier and safely into auradon .   of course they were frightened upon waking to find their changed surroundings ,   they quickly warmed up to rapunzel and eugene ,   and the couple had been fully prepared to take the girls in had gothel’s eldest living daughter ,   cassandra ,   an old friend of the royal couple ,   had not swooped in and taken up the responsibility of raising the two .

          the single condition around the agreement had been to keep their parentage a complete secret from the public ,   lest it ignite outrage .   so cassandra brought her two younger half-sisters to her little cottage in the woods ,   and raised them as her adopted daughters .   the girls knew that cass was not their real mother ,   and still retained vivid memories of the isle itself ,   but they did not ask many questions until around puberty .   by that time ,   cassandra had to sit them down and explain the situation to them ,   and that it was the most important secret they’d ever have to keep ,   lest they risk being sent back to the place they had been rescued from .

          antonina ,   the youngest ,   was incredibly precocious from a young age ,   all-too aware of her surroundings ,   always far too curious for her own good .   but alongside all these things ,   she was shy and withdrawn ,   almost completely unwilling to speak unless ginny ,   the older of the two ,   speaks to her .   it came to a point where she rarely wanted to even speak at all ,   entirely linked to how she was treated by her mother .   worried that it would affect her ability to fit in with other kids in auradon ,   cass has her enrolled into martial arts classes and begins teaching her to sword fight .   slowly but surely ,   she begins to come to life right in front of everyone’s eyes .   a curious child who never spoke a word began to blossom into a curious girl who constantly speaks her mind ,   yet maintained a charm that would draw anyone to her .   but despite this shift ,   she would still be diagnosed with depression that would be consistently treated with therapy and anti-depressants .

          by the time she was getting ready to attend auradon prep ,   she became acutely aware of just how terrified she was of losing all of the good things she has .   she is terrified of losing her home ,   her family ,   her friends ,   and she is about to begin attending a very high-profile school full of legacy children .   should her parentage be discovered ,   she would be carted back to the isle of the lost and be left at the mercy of the woman who tormented her as a child .   because of this ,   she makes the decision to bleach her dark hair to a bright blonde ,   give herself some bangs ,   and begins to religiously straighten her curls until her hair sits completely flat .   because of this ,   no one would ever even guess that she had any relation to mother gothel ,   and would just assume she is just cassandra’s adopted daughter and practically family to rapunzel and eugene .

          antonina fits in well at auradon prep .   she has good grades ,   gets along well with her teachers ,   and has a decent amount of acquaintances that she enjoys the company of .   she finds a close friend in li lonnie ,   the daughter of li shang and fa mulan ,   after bonding with the girl over their shared love of martial arts and sword fighting .   the two become inseparable ,   even attempting to join the sword and shield club ,   but are denied because of the ancient club rules preventing women from joining .   though it is discouraging ,   the girls don’t give up their fight just yet .   days later ,   they find themselves joining jay and carlos on the isle in order to rescue ben and convince mal to rejoin them in auradon .   upon their return ,   her and lonnie are permitted to join the sword and shield club and lonnie is appointed as the new captain .

          antonina graduates without a hitch ,   but she can’t help but the nerves that come alongside more isle born children arriving in auradon .   though her memories are more fuzzy ,   she still recalls enough to know that the possibility of them recognizing her is still there .   she just hopes that their memories just aren’t as sharp .

          “   thanks for joining me ,   mein kapitän .   ”     unlit cigarette is twirled between her fingertips ,   stuck between her lips and punctuated by the snapping of her lighter .   she holds the tiny flame over the tip until it ignites ,   before letting it die and releasing a puff of smoke from her lungs and into the cold nighttime air ,   taking extra care to make sure it blows downwind ,  keeping it away from uma and preventing the smell it from sticking to her clothes .   nina purses her lips down at the little white stick in her hand ,   the taste simultaneously giving her anxiety some relief yet also tasting sour and bitter and making her feel ill .     “   sorry .   i'll be quick with it .   ”

Hey all, you may have noticed that a recent tumblr update broke Old Blue, leading to a dashboard that looked something like this:

I'm happy to report that this is fixed as of Old Blue version 2.1.2. XKit will automatically update over the course of the next ~5 hours, but if you want to update faster, you can go to Other > Update All and click Update all of my extensions to update immediately
