LU Discord Mythology Week (Creature Feature)
[Image Description: In order from left to right, Wind, Linebeck, and Tetra are underwater. Wind is a cecaelia, he's wearing a turquoise tank top and his necklace is floating in the water along with his hair. His tentacles are a slightly dark sea green, and one of them is gripping the hourglass he gets at the end of Phantom Hourglass. He's got stars in his eyes and his hands are in fists in an excited "That's so cool!" Type of gesture. Linebeck is in the middle, his top half is normal, including his coat, vest and shirt, and he's portrayed as a näkki, a shapeshifter. He's showing off by turning his grey tail into tentacles that are slightly darker than Winds, his left hand is turned into a crab claw, and his right is turned into a grey fin resembling either a shark or a dolphin. Tetra is off to the side, she shares Wind's expression, but without the starry eyes. She's a mermaid with a light pink tail reminiscent of her dress when she's Zelda, and the fin is a pale purple reminiscent of her shirt. Instead of a shirt, she has a piece of cloth tied around her chest with a knot. She's still wearing her blue vest and pink bandana. Her right hand is off to the side and her left hand is loosely held in front of her chest. They're in the ocean, but close enough to the surface for it to be relatively well-lit.]
I had a lot of fun with this!
Okay, so Wind is wearing a tank top because i realized that I was going to have to draw nipples and make more freckles (which is a surprisingly time-consuming process [still not as time-consuming as drawing fucking scales]), so I just decided to take the lazy route and draw a shirt. My modest heart thanks me. Tetra also was almost left with only her bra/crop top/shirt/rag thing, but she's a child and it felt creepy not to put her in more clothes.
Linebeck is perfectly excusable though, he's a näkki (a Nixie from Finnish folklore), and näkki often wear fine clothing, so it works.
So I chose näkki, mermaid, and cecaelia for no real reason. I wanted to draw Wind as a half-human half-octopus, figured out it had a name, and took my chance. Tetra was almost a siren, but then I realized that sirens are actually half-bird half-human if I'm going by the actual mythology, and I nearly made her a finfolk, but...ehhh, so I went with Mermaid out of panic. Linebeck was purely because I wanted him to have a shirt on, and also pay tribute to Finnish folklore. I was stuck on how to portray a shapeshifter, so I just kinda...went for it. Not proud of the effect, but eh, I was practically dying after spending so long on Tetra's scales and didn't bother trying to fix the glowy thing. Which is also why the background is so lazy.
Anyway, I had fun! Still on the fence about writing something though.
