London Calling | Charlie + Grace

He laughed softly as she spoke. âA sort of Oxford man, I wouldnât go telling people that,â he teased before kissing her forehead. âI know, god, Iâm so happy youâre going to be there. Sometimes he just looks at me and I feel so small and itâs justâŠI dontâ know, I was intimidated by him even when Cam and I were married. He just has that aura about him. Really pompous and shit.â He shrugged it off and just leaned into her, wrapping his arms around her tightly. It was true, Freddie was intimidating as all hell to him. The guy was a writer too, just as creative and Charlie had spent the past few years comparing himself to him. Wondering where he had gone wrong, what he could have done better, what the guy had that he didnât. But Grace was right, she was there and he had no reason to worry. He had his girl and he couldnât think of anything better.Â
He smiled and let his eyes close as she buried her face in his neck. âYeah? Whatâs up, babe?â He smiled as he heard her sleepy voice, his lips moving to hers for a moment before settling back on the pillows. âI donât know if itâs just that Iâm tired but this bed has to be one of the most comfortable things I have ever been in. Like hands down. These pillows are so fluffy. Shit, let me set an alarm before we miss dinner.âÂ
She had fallen asleep countless times next to him, but this time it felt more comforting. They were taking the next step in a matter of hours she would meet the woman before her and once again meeting his daughter but on more official terms. With her arms wrapped around him and the small words right on the tip of her tongue, her sleepy eyes looked up at him. âI love you.â She was certain of her words, she had felt it for a while but had been hesitant to say but now that they were there and making the relationship that much more secure she wanted to be the first one to say it.Â
She reluctantly pushed herself up the bed a little to properly face him with her hand tucked in between her long hair. âI love you Charles Elijah Aulette, I love you for everything that you are and everything that youâre not. Â No man compares to you, so stop putting yourself down over someone like him. You are a good man, you are a sweet person and you are an amazing father. Donât forget that.â Her tiredness was suddenly gone as she looked at him trying to get some form of reaction.Â
