March is #endometriosisawarenessmonth 💛 #endometriosis (commonly referred to as Endo) is a #chronicillness that affects 1 in 10 women. It causes severe pain, both physically and emotionally. Most women go undiagnosed for years. I actually went untreated for almost eleven years because several doctors refused to acknowledge my pain. They called me a liar. They called me a drama queen. My PE teachers called me lazy and pathetic. Nobody understood how I could be so thin and look healthy but not be able to do basic things. But that’s because nobody saw me in bed for days, crying from the pain. Nobody saw me unable to eat from the nausea. Nobody saw how much blood there was every month. Nobody saw me at 13 years old being told that my body was slowly killing me and in order to make it stop I had to have my uterus removed. But in order to have that done, I had to provide a child to some imaginary man or go through five miscarriages. And that providing that future child to that imaginary man would most likely kill me. For almost eleven years I was told I had this disease and there was nothing to be done but get knocked up and suffer. I missed out on being a teen because of endo. While my friends were out partying I was at home in pain. I always told them I couldn’t go out, or would rather be home with my books. But that was because nobody understood what I was going through. Nobody knew what it was. I didn’t even know what it was. And that needs to end. There NEEDS to be better education about Endometriosis. People need to be aware of it and know the signs to look for it. People need help to understand it. To be able to support those affected by it. We need better research to treat it and find a cure.
