Please reblog if you are over 25 years old. I need to convince myself that I'm not just communicating with 13 year olds. Not that they aren't nice mind you, but sometimes I feel like the only old person on tumblr.

That tweet doesn’t do it justice
Look at this picture
Look at the weapon
Look at the hand reaching for it
Look at the cop
Look at how there’s only 1 cop in the shot
Look at the nonchalant atmosphere
Now think of the countless black women and black men who are dead for the very thought of them having a weapon
Think of Tamir Rice getting shot 2 seconds after police entered the scene when all he had was a BB gun
Think of the peaceful unarmed protests that ended in tear gas, military equipment, and riot gear.
Think of unarmed black men and women getting shot with over 100 rounds for being a threat.
Think of Fred Hampton dying while he slept, FBI fabricating a shootout.
Think of Dubose getting shot once in the head, a report already filed and backed up that he tried to run police over before his death was investigated.
And then take a look at this. A white man clearly reaching for his gun directly in front of an officer. A man who will get to go home to his family. A man who won’t become a hashtag. A man who won’t even face charges.
This is Amerikkka.
Just want to point out how not only does this man has a hand gun but also it seems like he has an assault rifle. Look at the leg.
He is a white man practicing open carry. This is white privilege. These people in the background are scared and the officer is trying to talk this guy out of pulling the gun. If this were a black man he would have been shot on the spot. White privilege is being able to exercise one’s second amendment rights to a ridiculous point, to the point where people feel they are in danger, and be talked down instead of shot.
I just wanted to know if anyone knew the story behind this picture…

Doctors and nurses have one of the most interesting relationships in healthcare. Society and media perpetuate a common myth that doctors are intent on “snagging” as many nurses as they can, and nurses perhaps are looking to “snag a rich doctor,” and while its idle entertainment value amuses many, it discredits the authenticity of the relationship, and presents a fractured reality to future doctors and nurses. Nurses are drawn to doctors, but not for the limited viewpoints the external world has come to know. They’re drawn in by a mutual respect and admiration of science, the intersection of philosophy, and how it directly/indirectly relates to the patients they’re collaborating on. Nurses aren’t necessarily impressed by intelligence; for a truly brilliant mind isn’t only found in advanced education - Nurses are more impressed by how they use the intelligence for the welfare of others, without boasting. Nurses are captivated by any doctor who shows their soul in medicine; The kind of doctor who takes the time to listen to their patient’s concerns without leaving a room and dismissing them, a doctor, who despite their insane schedule and demands, will still find the time to sit with a patient and talk them through a frightening diagnosis, or procedure, answering their questions. A doctor who addresses the concerns of nurses, without dismissing their instinct, or suggestions for medications/interventions. A doctor who understands when it’s time to let go of a patient, preserving their right to die with dignity and is present through the families’ traumatic process of grief, not to mention a keen awareness of the toll it’s taken on the nurse. A doctor who empathizes with mistakes, noting with amusement their own imperfections. A doctor who will unequivocally stand up for his/her nurse when a family/administration is disrespectful of the nurse, or their care. A doctor who respects not only the nurses, but the nursing assistant’s unique role in collaborative, and quality patient care. Nurses perhaps fall a little in love with any doctor who shows their heart - but it’s not for the reason you would expect, they are drawn to the person who reveals the humanistic side of medicine and prioritizes compassion, thoughtfulness and a patient’s worth & dignity.
Nurse X (via dancingnurse-ed)
I once had a patient who privately told me she wanted to stop chemo treatments. She was tired. Her family, however, was unwilling to listen, to the point of asking Oncology MD to do a "family conference". Said MD continued to bully the pt into agreeing to resume treatment, despite of the fact that she had metastatic disease. I was present during this meeting solely due to the patient's request. I held her hand most of the way, to give her encouragement to say how she really felt.
MD and family wore her out eventually. She agreed to resume treatment. Outside the room, the social worker and I approached Oncology MD to tell her what was originally the patient's wishes. Now here's the unbelievable fact: MD stared at us in disbelief, as if to say, how dare we undermine her authority. She then proceeded to say, verbatim: "Oh, don't listen to her! She doesn't know anything! She's so stupid!"
She resumed treatment the same day and passed away that same night. The family couldn't deal, suffice to say. The MD refused to prepare them, with words such as, "Don't give up on me! Do it for me! I'm not ready to let you go! You have to fight!"
I respect most doctors I work with. But there's always bad apples in a bunch. To this day, I loathe this MD. I advocated for that patient with all my might, getting Ethics Committee actually on board, but didn't allow for much time. Unfortunately.
Re-post this if you are a Nurblr or Medblr! How many of us are there???
Thought of the day
There are 2 important events in one's life. The first is the day they were born and the other is finding out why.
TRUE STORY…
Me today. This California girl isn't used to the cold...happy new year everyone!
THIS is how we know Kitty’s really a nurse.
Tired as F*CK
How do you know you're wayyy to exhausted to start a shift? 1. Sleep through an obnoxious sounding alarm 2. Put on mismatched scrubs (that incidentally just happened to work in the end..my lack of sense of style makes up for it) 3. Miss the exit on your way to work 4. You get on the elevator on the lobby and keep pressing 1. Damn elevator won't move though! (Cause I am on floor 1...) idiot! 5. And last but certainly not least...find out your being floated and the words "F*ck my life" slips out while talking to the nurse in charge.. What?! I was pissed enough already! #RN #NurseLife
Shifts from hell
It has become clear, over the past few shifts I've worked, that "burnt out" is that which accurately describes me. I love what I do, and I believe my colleagues are beyond supportive, but it seems to no longer be enough. I've been spending days off, attempting to rejuvenate and relax, in hopes that upon my next shift, all will be well again. But it's not..it hasn't been for a while..and it's become a source of anxiety for me. I've contemplated going on stress leave. I just do t know what to do...
3 Things I despise about being an adult
1. Needing to have a job to pay the bills 2. Actually going to work to get paid 3. Having to wake up early (0530) to go to work Good night! Here's to wishing for a good shift tomorrow...
