Walnut time! Nathan helping me out
Wow its hard to stay on top of a blog. I haven't been fishing near as much as id like to this year and also haven't been taking photos like I should, but here are two fish I caught recently. The pike is the first pike I have caught on my cottages lake. been fishing it three years. and now I have caught 5 since then. (not good news for the bass and muskie). Well I am fishing again this weekend so will post more pictures and hopefully some video soon.
is it a tiger muskie? ... let me know
muskie opener
well I finally have time to post from buying a new house to work my life has been a little chaotic. I have been able to get out once this year so far. My fiance and I went up to her family cottage with our two good friends Kyle and Stef and their little boy. The weekend we chose to go up was muskie opener ( the first weekend of June for use for us in district 15 here in Ontario) and it was the exact opposite of a nice cottage weekend. It rained over 40mm but kyle and I were out in the cold and rain fishing and got nothing for it until finally we got one. kyle at first thought it was a fish then a log and then he knew for sure it was a fish as the muskie do what muskies do best fight till they have nothing left. it wasn't a large one and to me it looks almost like a tiger muskie as I have heard they are starting to pop u in our lake (bad news bears, means there's pike about) if anybody knows if it is please comment, ill post the pictures above. Other than that I plan to be headed up for a amazing bass opener (my fav). ill be sure to post next week and hopefully posting some pics of my trophies I catch, using top water frogs in the back marsh.
happy fishing
Last Year
This year I decided to start a blog about fishing as a way to let others know tricks I have learned, and a way to track my progress/keep record of my catches. As this years bass season is still a month and a half away from opening, I figured I would share some of my nicest catches from last year.
Using a soft plastic off the dock this lunker must have been right under my feet as it struck when I was reeling in and the bait was basically out of the water, it came up from the docks peer and just nailed it.. 4.8 lbs
had some friends up for a weekend in late fall. it was cold as hell but the fish were biting
Largest one of the year topped the scales at 6.0 lbs again off the dock (all my biggest fish have been off the dock.. is there even a point in going out on the boat... lol) beside me is my parents dog Jager who wanted to eat it.. too bad for him all I do is catch and release.
How I Became Hooked
I always enjoyed fishing with my dad and my brother growing up, but that was bobber and worm fishing and well, we were never really good. Just to give you some idea of our expertise we went twice to a fish farm for rainbow trout and we ended up having to buy fish at the end of the day.
Just over the past two years have I really started to become addicted to fishing. My Fiancé's parents bought a cottage in Minden ON on Horseshoe lake which is a fairly small shallow lake, but is a full of bass.
I started by going to Bass Pro and picking up a 30 dollar reel and rod combo a which I still have as a back up today. I caught a few fish here and there mostly large mouth bass and perch all using small Mepps 2 spinner baits. Then one evening around supper time I decided to cast a couple off the dock and all of a sudden WHAM! I had on the end of my line what I thought was a pike. later on when I started to learn more about fishing and fish themselves I determined it was in fact a small muskie ... 33" if I remember correctly.
I know It's not the big huge ones you see in all the pictures, but to me this was all I needed to get hooked on fishing.
