Oikawa knows how to be in control-- he's always known how to be in control, ever since he first started to discover his dedication to volleyball and the teamwork it required, and this time is no exception. He knows how to present himself in a way that makes him seem like a leader, someone who doesn't get scared even though he does (he totally does, especially when facing someone who's actually a challenge to him), and if he can do that-- concealing his emotions enough for them to seemingly not exist-- then he can just repress the embarrassing ones completely, can't he?
Being connected to another person isn't exactly his idea of a great way to get to know them. If whoever's in charge of this whole... thing wants to see if they can get along and work together or.. whatever it is they're expecting to happen, then they could have gone along with it in a much simpler way. Like, for example, you know, one that doesn't require Oikawa to worry about someone else seeing through his cool and supposedly superior attitude, maybe? That'd be nice. So nice.
He has a few suggestions, even. Like trust falls! What ever happened to trust falls?
Bonding exercises aside, he still has the problem of attempting to stop feeling certain things altogether and, uh, well, as experienced as he is with dedicating himself to a challenge, he has a feeling deep down that this isn't actually going to work. Still, Oikawa reassures himself that it doesn't hurt to try, and that if he gets lucky this person will never once see-- er, sense?-- him feel nervous, or scared, or embarrassed, or anything else like that. It's a nice thought, actually, among all of the bad ones, so he decides to let it stick around for a while. That is, until his own feelings of security are pretty much overwhelmed with someone else's nervous feelings, and then he's just thrown all out of whack.
He doesn't know how he didn't exactly take notice of them immediately-- maybe he was somehow so lost in his own thoughts that it was impossible, but he hopes not, because if that's the case, then maybe they might have been able to know how hard he was thinking about this earlier-- but upon reaching the door to his new.. home, Oikawa definitely feels them now, and they're too close for comfort. Doing his best to put on his best 'I never have any problems ever because I'm perfect' smile, though, he opens the door regardless, just in time to hear someone speaking.
She's a girl, which makes him relax only a little bit, because he's used to girls, used to having them flock him, but.. this feels different. Very different. "Apologizing already?" He hums absentmindedly, waving it off with one hand as he tries to appear welcoming despite his own nerves beginning to act up. "You don't need to worry about it. We're in the same exact situation, you know?" Oh.. right. Names.
"You must be Peko-chan, then?" He hopes she doesn't oppose to the nickname because he's going to use it anyway. "You're right, though. We'll be together for a long time, so.. please take care of me!"
